Yang couldn't remember the last time she had seen Moses. It felt like forever ago. Out of all the friends she had, it seemed like he was the one she had seen the least often. Then again, both of them had been busy, and weren't really social butterflies. Well, Yang used to be, but Moses had always been on the quiet side. Which was why, she decided to surprise him and pop by his place for the afternoon. She was feeling a bit bolder when it came to social interactions. Maybe finally confessing her feelings for Adrien had had something to do with that. Who knew? Regardless, she set off for Moses's house in high spirits, but was still on her guard. Just because she was feeling a little perky didn't mean her paranoia had gone away. Still, she couldn't believe her luck when, after only a few minutes after arriving at the Garcon Perdu, she spotted Moses himself. However, something about him stopped her from calling out. He seemed awfully...shifty, like he was constantly looking over his shoulder to make sure nobody was following him. Yang was familiar with the behavior. She often did it herself when going out to a public place. Part of her was still fearful that Thrax might shot up and finish what he started. Still, what did Moses have to be afraid of? He wasn't exactly a wanted criminal. However, asking him directly was probably out the question. She and Moses were close, but that didn't mean they didn't keep secrets from each other. Moses didn't spill things easily. So, instead of just walking up and asking him, Yang decided to follow him instead. It wasn't the most practical plan, but she felt like it was the most effective. She just wanted to figure out what Moses was up to. What was the harm in that?

Moses had been too busy to really interact with many people, and he knew he was accidentally pushing everyone away, but he was just too busy. He'd started working extra shifts to support two people and was making more runs to the grocery store to buy food. Then it was off to the abandoned house and Vanitas .He really only went to his apartment to shower and brush his teeth anymore. He slept with Van on the old mattress instead of on his much softer bed at home because they were together and Moses didn't want to leave Van alone in that dark basement more than he had to. He was also extremely paranoid ,constantly looking over his shoulder or jumping at the slightest of sounds. He didn't want Vanitas to be found just because Moses was stupid.
He took a long winding route but eventually ended up at the abandoned house with a bag of groceries. He once more looked over his shoulder, thinking he heard a noise. Nothing was there that he noticed. He went into the old house and down the stairs. "Honey I'm home" he called out jokingly and set the groceries down before locating Vanitas and draping his arms over Van's shoulders. "Did you miss me Van?"

"Ha ha," Vanitas replied dryly.
With Moses gone during the day to work, Vanitas was often left on his own a lot. There wasn't that much to do but he at least tried to clean up the basement as much as he could with no electricity, no running water and no cleaning products. In his shitty little basement - akin to another cage. Though, to be fair, the company was better than what he would have gotten in prison. When Moses draped himself over his shoulders like a cape, Vanitas was tempted to shrug him off. For Moses' sake, he was trying to be more open with this affectionate touchy-feely crap. Still didn't mean he was particularly any good at it, but an effort was being made.
"You know, you wouldn't have to work so much if you just used the money I have." he pointed out.
Indirectly, he might have been admitting to missing Moses, without outright saying it. Because he never did that unless Moses was literally forcing him to. Besides, Vanitas did have money. Moses called it blood money however. But money was money. No matter how it was made, it was all spent the same. He did feel a little pluck of remorse for Moses being forced to work so hard.

Yang's puzzlement only grew when she saw Moses enter what looked like an abandoned building. What was he doing here? A number of explanations ran through her mind, none of which made much sense. It was probably best to just walk in and find out. Moses had looked paranoid the whole way coming here. Yang had had to stay a good distance away, lest her friend turn around and spot her. Yang went inside the building cautiously, her steps slow and quiet. The lighting wasn't exactly that great, so Yang made a flame in her left hand so she could see better. The place looked exactly like a dingy abandoned building should look. However, Yang heard voices in the basement below. Her gut twisted, although she wasn't sure why she felt nervous. Did she really expect anything bad to be down there? Regardless, she let out a breath before descending down the stairs, moving carefully so her flame didn't accidentally touch anything flammable. She could hear the voices more clearly the further down she got. That was definitely Moses down there. The other one...Yang didn't want to believe that it was who she thought it was. But what other reason could there be for her feeling so apprehensive? She shook the thought away though. She was just feeling a little paranoid, that was all. Feeling a little more determined, she descended down the rest of the way, saying "Okay Moses, are you gonna tell me why you sneaked out here or am I gonna have to..." Yang's voice trailed off as her eyes widened, and the flame in her hand sputtered for a moment. Seeing who Moses was with justified her nervous feelings before-hand. And for once, she wished she hadn't been right.

Moses smiled at Vanitas and kissed his cheek. "I'm not using blood money, but thanks for worrying about me. I wish I could spend more time with you too" He also wished he could take Vanitas home with him instead of keeping him locked up in a dingy basement. Moses jerked upright when he heard Yang's voice and he grabbed Vanitas and pushed Vanitas behind him as he turned to face Yang, face full of guilt and shock. "Yang! I....why did you follow me?" he asked, feeling extremely protective of the person behind him, as evidenced by the hand on Van's arm still.

"Oh good. Company." Vanitas said sarcastically.
He peered up the best he could, considering that Moses was still holding onto him. Not like Vanitas could go anywhere. He gave the girl a dry look. Had he messed with this one before? He couldn't remember but she did seem unnerved by looking at him. Though the fire was discerning. Vanitas didn't want to have to haul Moses out of there during the middle of the day to hide somewhere else. Besides, fire only attracted firefighters and police officer. Of which he wanted to deal with neither.

Yang felt her insides churn. A million questions rang through her mind. Why was Moses here? How did he and Vanitas even meet? Was their relationship seriously romantic? How could this have happened? Vanitas wasn't very high on her "People I'm Scared to Death Of" list. He used to be, but people like Thrax and Cinder far surpassed him now. But still. He had hurt her, and even worse, he had made her hurt other people. Not to mention, he liked rubbing it in her face. Despite all the shock, and even betrayal, that she was feeling, the one emotion that stood out the most was anger. Her hand curled into a fist as flames surrounded it, dancing in between her fingers and over her knuckles. She gritted her teeth as Moses asked why she had followed him. "Well, when a friend of yours is constantly looking over their shoulder as they walk through the streets, it tends to raises a few questions," she replied. "And the first thing I want to know is why you're running around with the likes of him!" The flame in her head burned brighter as the last word was shouted.

Moses felt guilty and panicky and that was quickly mixing into anger. "So you've been stalking me long enough to know I've been jumpy" he concluded angrily. "And you couldn't just ask what was wrong? My dad is a criminal ,Yang! I could have been bothered by him again!" Not that that had been very bad lately, but still! She could have just asked instead of following him like a creep! Moses held onto Vanitas more tightly. He swallowed the tight ball of nerves in his throat and his eyes turned black. "Vanitas happens to be my boyfriend Yang. And I'm not letting you judge me for my choices or try to take him" he said with deceptive calmness. "So I suggest you just leave and pretend you never saw us or this place, okay?"

Vanitas folded his arms across his chest, looking between Yang and Moses. He was stuck between a rock and a hard place. What was he supposed to do here? Couldn't kill her, that would upset Moses. Not to mention getting rid of the body. Not when he was trying to lay low. He doubted him actually saying anything would help. He was a criminal - a murderer at that. It was Yang's fault for following her friend like a sneak instead of talking to her 'friend' like a normal human being would.
"Well, that's not nice."

"Shut up!" Yang yelled at Vanitas. She could feel her anger getting out of control, but she couldn't help it. She couldn't remember the last time she had felt this way. For so long, her primary emotions had been sadness or paranoia. Her fiery temper had been down for a long time, and she found it hard to control it like she used to. "Oh, like you would have said anything if I asked you directly," Yang shot back at Moses. "You know that what you're doing is wrong, otherwise you wouldn't have kept it a secret." Anger and disbelief were mixing together, making it hard for her to think straight. Moses and Vanitas, together? In a romantic relationship? How had this had happened? Vanitas was a criminal, somebody who hurt people for fun. Moses was an informant for the Others Unit. How could they have possibly fallen for each other? And Moses insisting that she leave and pretend she never saw anything just made her angrier. "Like hell I am!" she shouted. "Do you have any idea what he's done?" She wasn't the only person Vanitas had hurt, she knew that much. His last trial had brought to light almost every single bad thing he'd done, including helping Thrax escape the LaFayette's ball almost a year ago. She could never forgive him for that.

"I would have told you I was busy seeing someone. It's mostly the truth. I just wouldn't have told you who" Moses said with an air of disdain. She was acting like he was caught burying a body or something. Yes, harboring a criminal was bad, but he wasn't going to get caught. He'd either get Yang to see his way the nonviolent way, or he'd force her to keep his secret. Either way worked at this point. "Yes, I know everything he's done" Said Moses quietly. "I was at his trial, hoping they wouldn't give him the death sentence so at least I could visit him in jail, which I did until he escaped. Yet I still love him Yang, and I want to spend my life with him. Is that wrong to want to be happy?"

At this point, Van didn't know what he was supposed to do. Saying anything only made this worse. Moses was getting too worked up over Yang knowing and Yang was going to fight them on this. There was that word again. Love. Moses threw it around so casually. Vanitas still had the unused Sapien in his bag. He hadn't worked up the nerve to use it yet. Still, every time Moses said it and he was forced to echo it back even though if he wasn't sure of his sincerity, he felt like he should take the Sapien, so could know for sure if he did.
"Should... I give you two a moment?" he asked.

Yang's hand shook. She knew better than anyone what it was like to love someone you weren't supposed to, but this was different. Adrien wasn't someone who hurt people and enjoyed it. Vanitas did. He wasn't a good person at all. How could Moses have fallen for someone like that? "How can you not care about the bad things she did?" she asked. "You remember Jane, one of the women he kidnapped along with Namine? She's my best friend. And who knows if Namine will ever recover." Yang remembered Jane mentioning more than once how Namine wasn't recovering from this as well as she had. Namine had already been a pretty timid person to begin with. The whole experience with Vanitas had made her even worse. "You stay where you are," she snarled at Vanitas, who seemed indifferent to all this at most. "Maybe you'd like to tell Moses about how you went inside my head and made me hurt an innocent kid? Or how about the time you helped Thrax escape from the LaFayette's ball? He was moments away from getting arrested, and you had to help him!" Her voice was shaking as much as her hand by this point. "He could be in jail right now if it wasn't for you! Instead, you had to let him loose! And now he's...he's..." Yang's voice choked up and she felt tears come to her eyes. She tried to blink them away, refusing to cry now. She didn't want to feel sad. She'd rather have her anger back.

Moses narowed his eyes and shook his head. "I care but I look past that. How do you think I felt when I first realized I loved him? I felt awful at first. He made me fight him. He's everything I promised myself I wouldn't become. But here I am, head over heels and addicted to the thrill of loving him, okay? Yes, he's done bad things but I think he's trying to turn over a new leaf. So give him a chance! Has he attacked you yet? No. Therefore he's making an effort" he turned his head to Vanitas and smiled slightly."And I'm proud of you, okay?"

Ah, so that's where he met her. he had messed with her. Taught her a 'lesson of the street' - trust no one. She had changed since then, grown up, gotten taller, lost a limb. How people changed given time. Van felt like he had been fairly consistent minus the whole, meeting Moses sort of thing. But listening to Moses talking about all of his 'good qualities' made Vanitas sneer. He couldn't kill Yang because then Moses would get mopey, not to mention disposing of a body was tedious work.
"You like this one," Vanitas said gesturing to Yang. "And don't talk to me like a dog about to take a piss on the carpet."
