Jane took a deep breath and got to her feet. She had to get home. Not a work night but she still had to get some rest before it was. And if her dad caught her out, she would literally be grounded within an inch of her life. It was strangely nice talking to Shadow and their run ins seemed to be random enough. Who knew when they would see each other next? She gave Shadow a considering look. Heavy on contemplation since her mind was moving a little slower.
"This... wasn't half bad," she said.

So was this going to be how she described every time they ran into one another by chance? She was looking back at him, almost as if she wanted to say something. Or was thinking about something. There was something he wanted to ask her, too. The big question; could she pick out the guy that took her away from Omar? If he was going to be stuck doing desk duty, he was in for a bunch of blind sweeps. But since drinking was in the cards, probably not the best time to ask.
'Yeah," he agreed. Genuinely. "Um, are you okay to get home?"

"I'm a big girl officer." she said. "I can take care of myself."
She used the title as a tease. It certainly didn't hold the usual venom that dripped from her words. She might have been buzzed and she probably couldn't walk an entirely straight line, but she could get herself home. She had been looking after herself long before Shadow came along. Though to be fair, she had a hard time relying on Omar too. She didn't want to burden him with her problems when he had so many of his own.

"How about I just walk you to your car and we part ways from there?"
When she called him officer, it didn't have the trace of malice that it had in the past. This time, she had said it light heartedly. Well, maybe it was the closest to respect, for now, that would get from her calling him that. He also should have expected her to be the independent type, given what she had no doubt gone through, apart from having an equally stubborn father. At least with the compromise, he could ensure she was okay and then she could be on the road.

"To a cab," she corrected, "I didn't drive."
But she hadn't rejected his proposal. She pulled out her phone, using an app to get her ride to her house. She had been drinking too much. Even if she had driven, she would have gotten a ride home because she wouldn't have trusted herself behind the wheel. Though, she was feeling pretty bad ass, considering that Shadow hadn't realized that she wasn't of 'legal' drinking age, at least not where they were. She had lived in England for a while, where the drinking age was far lower. She always felt that if you were old enough to sign up for the army, you were old enough to drink. Old enough to vote should have been old enough to drink. But she headed outside, with Shadow following her.

"Okay, fair enough."
Smart girl, using a drive-home app because she had been drinking. That and if she had a card, chances were Omar would see the bill and start asking questions. It didn't take a badge or training to put tow and two together usually. The din of the bar was replaced with the buzzing noise of cicadas outside, along with the usual hum of silence. He reclined against one of the old fashioned lamposts, folding his arms to support himself in case he did fall.

"And how are you getting home?" she asked. "I don't think drinking and high speeds is a good idea."
That was what he did, right? Run fast? He had said something about running atop water and dragging Croc behind him, but maybe she was imagining things after the drink. She clearly wasn't thinking straight. Still, Shadow doing a slightly wobbly run home might not be a good idea. Unless he didn't have far to go, but then again, she barely knew anything about the guy. Aside from his drink preference and the fact he had a martyr complex. Not to mention the fact that the love of his life loved someone else. She could only hope the drinking helped. She wasn't good at talking about feelings.

"Once I get the fog out of my head, I'll be off," he answered. The drunk slur was gone. "Being a homunculus has it advantages, like quick recovery,"
Recovering mentally and physically, he meant. He wasn't sure about emotions. The professor had made him from the best of all Others. Kind of. Maybe using the blood of the devil himself was the move that went too far. Shadow usually didn't have much nice to say about himself, particularly in regards to his appearance and genetic makeup. But the last thing he needed was to get Jane bored; only douche bags talked on and on about themselves.

"Wait, so, can you not get drunk?" Jane asked.
She had challenged the only guy who couldn't get drunk to a drinking game. Wait, no he started the drinking game. Still, the thought was still there. He could 'recover' from his drinks faster than he could drink them. Which made her whole plan to get him drunk and send him home completely and utterly pointless. They literally just spent the night talking. As she said, it hadn't been half bad, but she certainly felt stupid. At least Shadow wasn't laughing at her.

"...Yes and no..." he answered.
The complexity of how his immune system worked was a bit weird. Something like alcohol did affect him, but because of his healing factor being heavily increased, it didn't make the alcohol rush into his brain and affect his mindset quickly. She had seen the side effects of how much the shots were affecting him - apparently he was the loopy drunk - but the factor cleared his head in three minutes, making him more rational. Still dangerous, but a bit more rational.
"But I won't bore you with complexities about 'ultimate lifeform' creations and what not."

"I'm not sober enough for that," she said.
She was smart. She knew that. But her mind was bogged down by the alcohol consumed that night. She would be nursing a hangover the next morning. She wouldn't be able to understand scientific nonsense. Though, she didn't know what Shadow meant by 'ultimate life form'. He did say 'creation' so did that mean he wasn't born naturally? She shook her head. Thoughts for another time perhaps. Her ride was pulling up, ready to whisk her away home. Home sounded nice. Especially with the thoughts of sleep in the back of her mind.
"I guess I'll see you later." she said.

"Yeah...see you later."
The cab, with Jane, took off. Shadow leaned off the pole and rested on the bench for a brief moment. The last few drops of alcohol in his system were drying up, meaning he could get enough orientation back to speed off back to Riverfront. He'd get some rest to nurse the leftovers later. Work was cut out tomorrow, and he was more determined to avenge the LaRues - not just Omar, but Jane as well.
