"You make it sound like I wanted to hurt him." she said, hurt by the non-verbal accusation in Sunshine's voice. "Hurting him was one of the hardest things I've done."
It had been a physical pain to say what she did, just a few small simple words. She had broken her promise, shattered his trust all in one night. She felt horrible for it. She felt she deserved anything he had to say to her none of which she imagined would be kind. Funny how one human could have that much control over her happiness. Because Riku being happy meant a lot to her, which was why she had told Sunshine if she broke Riku's heart, she would never forgive her. This action of hers sent her spiraling down a dark path of depression and self loathing. She had hurt the one person who had renewed her hope in humans - who kept her from withdrawing to the Courts forever. She owed him so much and she repaid him by all but spitting in his face.
"Maybe it's better this way. He never wanted me for a partner in the first place." she continued.
Because Aqua had been so stuck in her own hurt that she sidelined Riku, dismissing him despite his own successes. Then she promised to never throw Terra against him again. But she knew it was the one thing that would upset him. She made a mistake. She knew that. But Riku was paying for it. All she had was guilt. Maybe Red was right, maybe she was too much of an Unseelie to ever let the nature go completely.

"Aqua..."
Sunshine clutched her cup. It was not what she was implying at all. She just wanted to put both stories together, and what she got was two people hurt - one by the mistakes of her past, the other from his partner, a person he was slowly trusting, becoming a pegboard for those mistakes to be pinned to, from a desperate attempt to save his life.
"...I didn't mean to come off as accusing. Your intentions were noble." She sighed, feeling like she was betraying her boyfriend for saying this.
"I think because of his home life and the way his parents treated him and Weiss...he didn't want to act like they did. He does appreciate you as a partner, he told me himself."

"I know..." she said softly. "That's what makes this so much worse. He told me... about his parents."
It had been too much in one night. If she could have just shut her damn mouth, she could have just helped Riku reunite with his sister and let that be that. One happily ever after. She could have saved his cure for a later moment, when Weiss wasn't there and explained things right. If only she hadn't been so greedy and stupid. She knew the moment that those words spilled from her lips, she had pushed things too far. Her desire to to 'save the day' ended up with no one happy.
"He... might not want my help but Weiss has to get away from those people."

"So you know too."
The question turned into a statement. Apparently in that rage, it had all just slipped out, and Riku said he hadn't told Aqua on their date. The agaib, the time between was forty eight hours; anything could have happened in that time. Sunshine sipped her tea to push back all the annoyances at Aqua away. Right now those feelings could be reserved for someone who truly deserved them.
"And I completely agree about Weiss. I ran into her in the park the other day. I avoided sensitive topics like the plague...she think shutting people out will save her; in the end, it's just going to make it worse."

"Hard not to when Riku all but asked Weiss to move in with him." she said.
Riku had wanted to do so much, so many big plans were thrown out in one night. Everything had been so much at once. Very overwhelming in general and Aqua just wanted to fix it all. But she couldn't. She realized that now. She had to learn to stop butting her nose into other people's business unless they asked her too because otherwise, things went sideways.
"Sunshine, I... don't know what I'm supposed to do anymore. I've never had anyone stick around like Riku did." she explained. "I want to fix things but I don't know how. They don't teach this at the orphanage. I was always alone. I used to think it was easier."
At the orphanage, they barely taught anything at all. Aqua only got to school because the government required it. But her 'caregivers' didn't offer assistance with home work, let alone personal problems. They saw you as a number. To them, Aqua had been a waste because she was never adopted. She emancipated herself at 16, took on odd jobs while she was studying for the police academy. But she hadn't really learned to connect with anyone because no one wanted a faery for a child.

Riku asked Weiss to move in with him? Well, that didn't surprise her. He was the kind who had his door open to anyone that may or may not need some place to call home. It also made sense to what all had happened. The stress was continuing to pressure onto him, and when Aqua wanted to help, it all sort of came to a head in that moment.
Sunshine pursed her lips in thought. Aqua was stressed, and for good reason. She remembered seeing Shadow in similar issues, not sure of what to do because he was used to being the number one lookout, and only over time adjusted to the idea of teamwork and opening himself to her. Aqua had opened herself twice; once to Terra, and now Riku. Plus, given that an orphanage was a childhood no one wanted to have, she didn't know if there was a hierarchy or some kind of abuse by the caretakers that forced Aqua into the semi-submissive role.
"Let's start with apologizing. I know you have, but we have to be adamant about it," Sunshine mused. "I can help get it into his head that you truly are, because you wouldn't be here moping if you weren't."

"I would, except he's been avoiding me." she pointed out.
Including but not limited to the cold shoulder, ignoring her existence entirely and leaving as soon as they were no longer required to work together. It's not like she could waltz up to his house and tell him how sorry she was. She was at the point of giving up. Humans, even when you helped them, caused too much hurt. Now she understood why Omar said faeries were dicks. But despite feeling this way, she felt no animosity towards Riku, just herself. She didn't blame him for avoiding her. She had done the same thing when she was upset, avoiding the things that had hurt her in the first place.

Sunshine didn't know what to say. Forcing an apology would mean getting involved more than she needed to. Yes, Riku was her boyfriend and she wanted to see him come out okay, but he and Aqua were both adults and should try to solve the issue themselves. Now to get him off his high horse was going to be tricky if he wouldn't even talk to his partner. Shadow and Sunshine had disagreements, but never ones where they avoided or stopped talking to one another. Aqua was doing her best, but something was...well...keeping hr from going more forward. Was this a Seelie thing?

"I'm sorry to bother you with all of this," Aqua said. "This is my problem, not yours."
She felt guilty for dragging Sunshine through the mess she had made. This was her fault. Something she had to sort out and come to terms with on her own with her partner and only her partner. Because in the end, Aqua was the one to say the hurtful things that had upset her partner. She was the one who broke her promise. She had to try to make amends or come to terms with the fact that saving her partner had meant she would lose him. Losing him to death or to simply not being partners anymore were two things she didn't think she was quite ready to deal with.

"You sound like Shadow; when I get him to talk about what bugs him that is."
That was, in a weird way, a compliment. But it was also her trying to make a point. Her partner was stubborn and didn't like putting problems that he felt belonged to him being put out. He may have thought he was being selfless, but the truth was he wasn't. She had convinced him that the friends had come on their own accord and helped because they wanted to.
"I will say this, which is what I told Shadow. You can make your choices, but you can't make mine."

Aqua managed a twitch of a smile. Stubborn little humans the whole lot of them. Even in the face of hurting and sadness, they still managed to look at a silver lining. Not everyone of course, but a good portion of the humans that Aqua knew were fighters. If something bad happened, they kept on going. With everything that had happened over the last year or so, Aqua felt immensely older than she was, but she supposed, she still needed a human around to remind her that she was still young, not even a century old yet though she was acting like she had reached her first millennium already. Though, to be fair, so much had happened since Terra's disappearance.
"You do you," Aqua replied.

Sunshine giggled. SOme times, it took a lot to remind herself that having a conversation with a Seelie was happening whenever she and Aqua talked. She was starting to view the blue haired girl as a friend. Honestly, it was funny how a few years ago, shed had just finished high school without any of her so called "friends" calling her. Even her last boyfriend Jack Frost kind of bailed on her. It was a bit off putting to say the least.

"Thanks Sunshine," Aqua said. "For listening... But I should probably head out. The next round of officers will be getting off their shift and I know their first stop."
Nevermore. A little slice of heaven for the caffeine deprived souls of the police force. Talking certainly helped, but at the end of the day, she would have to work this out. She had to muster the courage to talk to her partner on her own. She smoothed a hand through her hair before finishing the last of her drink. She didn't want to keep Sunshine any longer. The young baker needed to get back to work. Things would be picking up quite soon. She was going to need to be ready for the next rush. Aqua had to get back home.

"..Yeah. Hey, know that some of us are just here to listen if you ever need it." Sunshine sipped her tea before standing back up and returning to the kitchen. On her way in, she nearly bumped into the smirking face of Matthew, and gave him a look, muttering, "she's right you know; you might get to work on those famous open faces you keep bragging out ((end thread?))
