The benefits of having the desk job were more flexible hours. For Sunshine, that was getting back to Nevermore so her family would know for themselves that she was okay. They had seen her blushing every once in a while when the topic was brought up, and she had confessed that, yes, she was actually seeing a Lafayette. Her parents had been...well...ecstatic. She was daydreaming about it now as she accidentally overfilled someone's coffee. "Oh! Excuse me!" she cried, mopping it up with the napkin stowed in her apron. The bell signaling another order rang, and she rushed to grab it. Some times, the rush of caffeine-addicts was the one rush she needed in a life of going after criminals.

Aqua had finished another awkward and silent shift with Riku. He was still giving her the cold shoulder after what she had said. She didn't blame him. She just mumbled her apologies, started their patrol and headed out with a soft goodbye. Just a few little words had created such a rift between them that she feared there would be no repair. She was just waiting for him to slap reassignment papers on her desk any day now. But she deserved it.
In an attempt to cheer herself up, though it wasn't really working, she had gone to Nevermore for a peppermint tea. And of course Sunshine had to be working there today. She felt a little uncomfortable being around 'Riku's girlfriend' now particularly after how they behaved at Sunshine's birthday party. She just paid for her drink and waited for it to come out, hoping to make this an in and out sort of affair. She should have known better than to stop in at Nevermore.

The bell rung, admitting another customer. The raven, wearing bright yellow sunglasses and a straw hat to commemorate summer, had his shades ruffled slightly. Sunshine would tell John about it when he was done delivering 'bear-y good' bear claws to the corner booth. The customer coming in was someone she had only seen at the little birthday excursion, and looked a bit ruffled. From every time she went, Sunshine wanted to bet Aqua ordered a peppermint tea.
The Seelie seemed...stiff. Was it because Sunshine was dating her partner? Even at the party, the two of them seemed to be giving the other the silent treatment. She waved with an awkward smile, hoping her friendliness wouldn't scare Aqua away.

Aqua had been spotted, despite her hope not to bother Sunshine. She returned the uncomfortable smile and stepped over to the side to wait for her drink. But she knew she couldn't just give Sunshine the cold shoulder. She wasn't at fault here. It was Aqua. Her choice to save Riku, but hurting him. She already had one partner die, with the chance that Vanitas' little curse could have killed Riku or at least shortened his life to that of an average house hold bunny, Aqua knew she had to act. She would not let another partner die if there was something she could do about it.
"Hello, Sunshine," she said.

"Hey, Aqua," Sunshine said.
She was being friendly, as she usually was. Aqua was seeming a bit...on edge. And Sunshine had seen on edge from working with a, well, 'edgehog'. But Riku wasn't here. Maybe she'd run into him later, or get the two of them to...oh, wait. The last time they both sat down, it didn't exactly go into his favor. Aqua had hurt him. Heck, Riku had shed tears in front of her talking about it. But Sunshine knew from being a cop that there were two sides to every story. She had yet to hear the Seelie's.

"How are you?"
Aqua offered a weak and tentative smile. She wondered if this wasn't what Namine felt like most of the time, minus the stuttering. She quietly rubbed her arm. Riku probably told his girlfriend everything. He had to have since his recovery was absolutely visible. People had to ask questions. She smoothed a hand through her hair. She should have gone home for her tea.

"Can't complain."
At least Aqua was taking this well. Or as well as Sunshine could muster being the truth. She was..was that Namine's shyness rubbing off onto her? She set her writing pad down. She still had to keep one arm up to balance the plates she had been carrying back to the dining room. A cup nearly fell on the Seelie's head, and she caught it with her free hand.
"I...um...peppermint tea, right? I'm going to put these down and bring it back out!" All while rushing back, Sunshine had called thhis over her shoulder.

"Be careful," Aqua said when Sunshine was nearly bludgeoned by a wayward cup.
She shook her head fondly over the human. At least the baker hadn't hurt herself carrying a tray. Aqua did not want to see the hairnet that would have been able to keep all of Sunshine's hair up and away. Or see any flour get in those long locks. That would have been a mess and she didn't just mean how many bottles of shampoo the young officer must have gone through.
"Right. Peppermint tea."

'On it!"
The plates and cups were tossed back into the kitchen. As Sunshine was getting over the relief of not dropping any off-white plates or coffee-stained cups on the floor, the timer dinged. Hot water was ready. She grabbed the pot and poured the right amount for the serving and rummaged through the tea selections, successfully finding the merald green peppermint sleeve. With both things sets, she rushed out, delivering it to Aqua's booth with her usually smile in place. Her green eyes, though, betrayed the uncertainty of how to talk to the officer.

When her tea was brought back, Aqua could still feel Sunshine's eyes on her. She took the cup, clasping it in between both hands. The w. Even when she was trying to avoid Sunshine's gaze, she caught the woman's reflection in the tea itself. No avoiding the situation, it seemed. She hated that. It should be something private, but now... her mistake was everywhere, in her face, never letting her forget it. She wanted to rage and scream but she was too emotionally exhausted to do anything at that point. She was tired of being yanked around emotionally in a million different directions. She was only one person.
"I suppose Riku told you what happened... If you're looking at me like that." she said softly.

"Well, I only got his side of his story. Just because we're dating doesn't mean I should take it 100%. And unlike Pitch, I don't have to torture it out of you with my hair."
She said ti with a half-hearted laugh. Pitch had been one of the biggest interrogations she had to give. He had been none remorseful, taunting her by saying learning the truth about her partner wasn't going to be easy. Sunshine knew the consequences, but what she had wanted was to know why Pitch did what he did. Stealing memories was far worse, but ight now, the focus had to be on the more human element. That human element was Aqua hurting her partner. The Seelie was not the type to just blatantly hurt someone, and that was what made Sunshine's stomach feel empty.

"You know how I went to the Seelie Court to find a cure for him?" she asked. "I... found it. Took some work. The text had to be translated... From Ancient Greek."
That had been a grueling period of time. Her hasty search for a cure in case the spell got worse. They could have asked Vanitas while he was in lock up except he escaped. Aqua could say her decision saved his life all she wanted, but the fact of the matter was, she was selfish. Riku was human. He would died someday. She would alone again. Riku's mortality was something she was going to have to come to terms with. Her partner who had given her new meaning after she lost hers - would die. She had been so blinded by that, she forgot that she had to consult Riku on that.
"Angry tears." she told Sunshine. "And I had to do something, quickly. The spell would get worse with time."
Worse case scenario - death. Losing another partner was not something she was strong enough to go through twice. It would likely kill her. Riku just faced the brunt of her decisions. Her selfish, stupid, decision. What hurt her the most, was that he had taken every word as pure truth. That he couldn't see through her lies despite their near year of partnership. A partnership she ruined.

"How come all Seelie encounters in some dead language?" Sunshine asked half to Aqua, half to herself.
This was Shadow coming out and talking for her. Sure, she wasn't intimidating as he could be, she still felt the little irritation bubble into annoyance. "And you didn't tell him you had the answer to the curse because? It's one thing to do something out of wanting to save his life, it's another to let them know you're doing it to save them."

"Beats me." Aqua said softly.
The translation had been a headache. She had worked so hard only to come to the conclusion that things were going to blow up in her face. She thought Weiss could cure Riku, make him upset, but no, her partner had to be calm and level headed with his sister! But the moment Aqua opened her mouth, he believed every lie and it infuriated the faery to the core. What if she had been possessed, like Terra, Riku wouldn't even have noticed a difference in her behavior... Granted, Aqua hadn't noticed with Terra.
"And if I told him and we couldn't make him angry enough? Or if him knowing didn't make it pure angry tears? I thought that by having Weiss over things would go right because there is no one in this goddamned city who is as angry as she was with him!" Aqua snapped but then her tone softened. "But I screw everything up."

Sunshine blinked once at Aqua's snap. A huge weight was on Aqua, and she had to do something before it turned into a yelling match. Yelling matches between women could get dangerous; fast. She folded her hands and looked over at Thomas as he rushed by with his own load. Nevermore just got a new chef, a cocky little brat named Matt, so John had his hands full. At times where Sunshine found her two jobs lining up, such as this, she needed to get something.
"Hey, Thomas?" she asked, "can you get two more peppermint tea? Take one out of my paycheck and the other on the house."
Her stepbrother nodded and rushed in. A din of chatting from John trying to put Matt in his place could be heard before it shut. Massaging her temples, Sunshine started putting the pieces together. At the Seelie courts, Aqua did what she set out to do, which was find the cure for the curse put on Riku that Sunshine had accidentally triggered; the cure was angry tears, and instead of telling him the truth, she has set up a secret meet up between Riku and Weiss; apparently everything didn't go according to plan, and Aqua had resorted to things that hurt Riku and gave the desired result...
She sat down as Thomas delivered the teas in time, thankfully shutting the door on Matt's cocky comments which would have spiraled Sunshine's annoyance. "Okay, let me see if I got this right. You found the cure and wanted to set things in motion before it was too late. You got Weiss and Riku in a room together, hoping for the desired results. Nothing happened, so you resorted to basically hurting him..." she sighed. Riku had told Sunshine that he never said anything about the child abuse he and Weiss endured. Maybe they both avoided a yelling match so they wouldn't end up conversing the way their parents talked with them.
