"But what if people try to hurt you? It would look bad if you fought back, even if it was to defend yourself" Moses pointed out. He sighed and nodded while biting his lip. "What if..what if he doesn't agree? I can't promise he won't stay out of jai. and he'll be in there longer than I'll live, I don't know if I can do it! I mean, I don't want him to run but can't I get someone, anyone to take his case and get him turned over to my care so he can stay in the comfort of my home and we don't have to worry?" Moses was about ready to go to his old employer at this point. Cruella always did have a soft spot for him.

"While your concern is appreciated, you must focus on your own problems."
Pitch knew that while Moses was coming from a good place, it would only add another source of anxiety for the half-Demon to inquire how he was handling the outpour of anti-Demon sentiment from the public. And he didn't need the concern as he knew how to handle situations like that in his own way.
Moses turned back to his own issues quickly enough, voicing his fear that Vanitas would stay in prison longer then he lived and that no one would take his case. While Pitch himself felt that was exactly where Vanitas should be, he could see how badly it was hurting the young man standing before him. For a time he didn't say anything as they stood in the alleyway, occasionally hearing a thought from his Nightmare but not really listening to them as he tried to think of something that might aid Moses. Finally, an idea came to him but it was a long shot.
"There is one person who might take his case. However, I warn you that the future for Vanitas depends on the choices he makes now."

"I just worry" Said Moses, abashed by the reprimand. The problem was he just cared too much. He wanted everyone to be safe and happy, and unfortunately he couldn't pretend everyone could be happy anymore. Yang and everyone else wouldn't be happy with Vanitas out and about, but Moses wouldn't be happy having to talk to Vanitas through a window and phone the rest of his life. Moses stared at Pitch with a hopeful look. "I will do anything to help him" he breathed. "Whatever this person wants, I'll pay it somehow. Who could take his case?" he sighed. "I'll talk to him. He's gentler when I'm around but I'm not his baby-sitter-well, I don't want to be. I'll see he gets he has to play nice. Maybe get a job in a halfway decent place, I know of a few places who'd take him"

Pitch could see the hope in Moses' eyes, could sense his need to believe that things might turn out alright after all for him and Vanitas. However, the Terror Demon knew from his centuries of existence that rarely did things go the way we hope they will. However, he kept his features neutral and didn't let his thoughts show in any way.
"Just wait a moment, Moses. Just because the person might help you doesn't necessarily mean they will. It's a big risk and there is a good chance she'll turn you away if you and Vanitas don't play your cards right."
Here Pitch paused and let his yellow eyes close for a moment, standing silently in the alley as he debated on the wisdom of this course. Well, even if the person he had in mind wanted in no way to help Vanitas, at least he now knew to some degree what had happened to Vanitas. If the BPD did have to apprehend him, hopefully this knowledge would help them all avoid a fight that the other Demon couldn't win.
"Are you familiar with the Others lawyer, Elsa Crispin?"

"Elsa? But...I don't think she'd help Pitch. She helps your people in BPD. She usually is against someone like Vanitas. She eats people like him up for dinner. What makes you think she'd ever help Vanitas?" yes, he was incredulous and doubtful. Yes, he was wondering if Pitch was delusional. But he was willing to hear Pitch's reasoning about Elsa taking Van's case. She was one hell of a lawyer. If anyone could get Van on house arrest, it was her. "I'm willing to try but what would I even say? 'Hi I'm Moses and my secret boyfriend is Vanitas, a highly wanted criminal, and I'd be super happy if you could represent him in court?'" He shook his head glumly. "I'm better off going back to Cruella" he muttered.

"I won't say that it isn't a long shot, but as of now it's your best bet for helping Vanitas. As for why she would help, that would fall mostly to you."
Pitch's tone made it clear that the chance for Elsa actually helping wasn't good but that it was probably the best they would find when it came to Vanitas. Most people would have been happy to see the Demon dead and finding someone who might even consider aiding him was slim to none. However, if Moses truly did want to help him it would require admitting that the Demon had to pay for his crimes and face the justice system.
However, when Moses glumly said it might be better to go back to Cruella, the Terror Demon's brow fell into a scowl and the shadows around them visibly rippled as if restraining themselves from acting out at these words. While Pitch hadn't met the hybrid club owner, he'd learned all he needed about the woman from the reports the BPD had gotten on her place. Missing persons traced to the club, accounts of assault, underhanded deals. All these had been traced back to 'Mina' but nothing had managed to stick and so the underworld club continued. If Moses was talking about going there with Vanitas, it could only make things worse.
"I am warning you now, Moses. Should you decide to seek refuge in that establishment, then I will not be able to help you."

Moses shrank back at the scowl and sighed. "Then I'll go to Elsa and I'll ask her to help. I need this to work Pitch, I'm at the end of my options and I...I don't know what to do" he might really have to go to Cruella and beg for her help. "But if Elsa refuses, I have no other options but to work for Cruella again. I really don't want to, I don't"

Silence descended in the dirty and dark alleyway as Pitch looked down from his greater height at the half-Demon before him. He could sense the despair and hopelessness emanating from him, but he could also sense that as bad as things seemed he hadn't completely lost hope yet. The fact that he had sought him out proved that.
"We always have a choice in what we do."
The Terror Demon said nothing else but fixed the younger man with his yellow gaze, a penetrating look that seemed to see right into the very depths of the half-Demon. A difficult decision lay before Moses, perhaps the most telling decision he would have to make in his life, but the only one that could make the choice was himself.
Pitch stared fixedly at Moses a moment longer before he took a step backwards and disappeared into the shadows, leaving the young man to make his choice. This was something he would have to face on his own just as everyone else did, be they human or Other. For no one, not even a Demon, could escape the choices they would face in life.
