Namine had been warned time and time again by the officers she worked with, not to go out alone at night, especially when it was dark. It was hard to avoid that when they kept her late for work. But they needed her assistance with a sketch of a criminal who was robbing local banks and killing at least one victim per attack. The last attack left a pregnant mother alone without a husband to raise their unborn child. Namine did not mind working late as long as it helped get the man off the streets before he hurt anyone else.
But taking a cab would be just like handing over her purse to a mugger. She would be robbed by cost alone. She didn't own a car due to her anxiety when she wasn't operating heavy machinery, let alone if she were on the road. She reasoned, she wasn't far from her home. It was a short walk, an even shorter sprint if it came down to it. She took a deep breath, steeled her resolve and walked down the street, sticking to the streets with lights. Despite her precaution, she could still feel her heart racing.

Omar thrived at night and did his best work in the dark hours. He was a night owl in pretty much every sense of the word, even without the fact that his species was naturally nocturnal. He also did his best practices and performances at night. Speaking of performance, he was coming home from one at the moment. It had been at a local bar and he felt the Bilge Rats had performed well. Now it was off to his apartment and sleep so he could get ready for another performance the following day. A performer’s work was never done.
He was crossing the street when he saw a tiny blond chick walking down the street alone. He hefted his guitar case, weighing the pros and cons before sighing and moving to catch up with her. “Hey, girlie, didn’t people warn you not to walk around alone at night? It’s dangerous” he said gruffly. “Lucky you ran into someone like me and not somebody more dangerous” he glanced around suspiciously at the dark street. “Let’s get you home”

Namine quickly turned on her heel when someone called her out, a deep voice, jolting her out of her narrow minded focus of straight ahead of her. She hadn't even heard anyone approach her from behind. He had startled her so much she couldn't prevent the soft squeak that emitted from the back of her throat. Wide eyes stared at the stranger. If she had been braver, more daring, she would have told him that he was a stranger and she shouldn't talk to them, but it sounded equally childish as saying nothing to the man.
She bit her lip, worrying the skin as she shifted under the man's gaze. Perhaps she should have waited until someone at the precinct got off to give her a ride home. This rough looking man was as intimidating as some of the thugs the officers brought in. "I-I'll be okay," she tried to reassure him, hard to do when her stammer got in the way.

Omar rolled his eyes. Oops, he seemed to have petrified the little mouse of a girl. He sighed. "I ain't gonna hurt ya" he told her. "I'm just the guy trying to be a gentleman here and walk ya home. It's dangerous out here girlie" Of course she probably knew that well enough but he'd rather make sure she got home alright. Something about her reminded him a little of Jane. Jane had been cocksure and fully able independant, just like her father, but sometimes she got spooked and reverted to a shy little girl he could wrap in a big hug and comfort. He couldn't hug this girl but he could walk her home.
"You might be okay and you might not be. Better not to tempt fate, ya know?" he nodded for her to continue walking and followed after, swinging the guitar case onto his back and putting the strap on to secure it. He might as well have both hands free if anything did happen. "I'm Omar" he said after a minute of silence.

Namine squirmed in her spot. She couldn't look him in the eyes until he said his name. She stared at him for a moment longer, trying to gauge the sincerity of his actions. Worst come to worse, if he hurt her, she could report him to the police. And there wasn't much that hadn't already been done to her by her father that anyone could do to her now. She wasn't prone to violence either. So she took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves, which were always active because she was always afraid.
"O-Okay," she consented. "I'm Namine..." She bit her lip again, but slowly started walking, not sure if he would follow or not. It was going against everything the officers at her work told her. She was leading a strange man to her home on the pretense that he was walking her home so she was safe. Her co-workers would lecture her for sure if they found out. "My p-place is not too far from here..."

"Nice ta meet ya Namine" he said .He knew what was probably going through her head. A strange man just coming up to her, lecturing her and then offering to walk her home? Yea, that didn't happen too often he had to admit. But he had done it often enough for kids, so why not this chick? She looked like she needed someone to keep an eye on her, and the idea that she was like Jane was too strong to ignore. He briefly wondered where his daughter was if she was alive, but shoved that thought out of his mind. It did him no good to dwell on something like that. "It'll be a short walk then" he said and followed her when she started moving.

"B-But what are you..." she trailed off. Perhaps she didn't want to know why this man was going out of his way to see her home. People had all sorts of reasons for doing what they did and maybe she was crossing a line by asking. But some part of her felt like she had a right to ask, since it was her personal safety involved. She kept her gaze away from him, meekly leading the way to her home. It was an eventful night for her, not going how she would have expected it to go.
However, if she were honest with herself, she was glad she wasn't alone in the dark. She hated being alone, but she hated the darkness even worse. It was always in the darkness when her father would hurt her, before the BPD stepped in and locked him away. Even now, as an adult, she had troubles adjusting to things that shouldn't scare others, like strangers just being kind.

He looked down at her. "What am I doing?" he guessed, and shrugged. "Dunno. I thought I was being a Good Samaritan or some shit but with how nervous you are it feels like I'm actually doing something wrong" He snorted and shook his head. "All I wanna do is make sure you get home safe. There's killers in the dark ya know. And yer just a tiny scrap of a thing. Guess I'd feel bad if something happened, is all" He shrugged again and adjusted his guitar case on his back. He was more used to carrying it in his hand than he was carrying it on his back. It took some adjusting.

"I'm sorry," Namine mumbled, feeling a sting of guilt since she was so quick believe the worst out of his seemingly innocent intentions. She didn't know if it had to do with her work with the police or her relationship with her father, that made her so quick to assume the worst of this guy. At least she hadn't started to cry. It would have only have made the situation that much worse if she had. She couldn't put to words why she was so scared, nor could she convey them, but she had to lighten up a bit, he hadn't hurt her, and it seemed her had no intentions to. "W-What are you doing out s-so late?"

He looked down at her again. He snorted. "Don't be. I suppose it's natural to be suspicious of a strange man late at night. But I don't make a habit of hurting people. Specially not little slips of things like you .For one, it'd be too easy. For another, what's the point?" they continued walking and he wondered just how much farther it was to her home. She had said it wasn't far, but that was completely up to each individual's interpretation. What was short for one person could be a long ways for another. "Me?" he hefted his guitar case. "I'm lead singer and guitarist for a band. We had a gig tonight. It just finished actually. I was on my way home myself"

Namine wasn't sure if it was supposed to make her feel better that she 'wasn't worth attacking' or not. She already knew she wasn't the boldest person on the BPD force. She had nearly swallowed her tongue when he snuck up on her, but she also realized that if he had wanted to hurt her, he would have. He had ample opportunity because she hadn't noticed his approach. She had to bite back the urge to apologize again.
Her home was just another ten minutes away, one block over. It wasn't the best part of town, but it also wasn't the worst. It was simply what she could afford on a 'consultant' salary and her side commissions for art. She just hoped she wasn't too far out of Omar's way. She knew she was tired from working late but she was no means a night owl. She was an 8 to 5 sort of girl, pending extenuating circumstances like tonight. "Um... Thank you," she murmured, after realizing she hadn't shown him any form of gratitude for going out his way to see her home. "For walking with me. Y-You're probably tired if you j-just performed..."

He shrugged. "Hey no problem girlie. It's no trouble for me" He could walk all night and then some. This was seriously not a problem. Omar shook his head. "Nah, I'm good. I could do another gig right now if I wanted. But I have to abide by the times the bar closes, ya know?" It sucked but there it was. He had to abide by the rules or he wouldn't be able to play anymore, and that meant having to pack up when the bar closed. He could probably do another two or three hours before he called it good. Sometimes it tired him out, but not tonight.

"W-What kind of music do you play?" Namine asked, growing curious. Bar scenes were not her sort of thing, neither were concerts. Both had far too many people and far too much alcohol involved for her to even remotely feel comfortable. But it seemed like that was how Omar made his living and she may as well as get to know her strange escort. They were nearly halfway down the block. He would disappear into the night after that and she wasn't sure how likely it was for her to see him again unless he happened to be playing near the police station again. "What is your band like?"

"Oh rock and roll. Sometimes softer stuff but not often" it brought back painful memories of when he'd play for his kids and girlfriend. It was still painful for him and so he avoided playing the soft stuff, folksongs especially, as though his sanity depended it. Because it sort of did. Omar chuckled. "Oh, rowdy. Obnoxious at times. Loyal. They play really well and we've come a long way. I'm proud of them actually" he really was. He had worked with them and shed blood sweat and tears to see them to where they were now. That was why when people insulted his band it got personal. "So, what do you do then, girlie?"

Namine couldn't help but laugh. He talked about music the same way she spoke about her art. With a passion that seemed to light up his entire being. She had no idea how she could have been so scared of him now. "They sound nice." Namine said. Rowdy might have been too much for her to handle but for Omar it seemed like friends like those were a perfect fit. "I... Work for the BPD. As a sketch artist." Namine admitted softly.
