"Well, not my first choice but if you're happy," Axel shrugged. Adeline did seem more relaxed. Maybe the yoga classes were doing her some good. Better yet, she said she and a friend went to these classes. Adeline was putting herself out there, making friends, it was almost enough to make Axel proud of her. She was doing so well for herself. Finally allowed to recover now that Thrax was no longer in the picture. Still, being called 'her punk ass' made him laugh. It was like a little kid trying out bad words to impress an adult with their 'maturity' for saying them.
"Aw, you're making me blush," he said sarcastically.

Adeline gave a laugh. Axel may have been sarcastic, but she felt like her compliment was true. He was a dear friend to her, and she wanted him to be happy, as she wished for everyone she was close to. Of course, achieving happiness was easier said than done. Even Adeline had a few problems to sort out. But she was doing better than she used to, and that was reason enough for her to feel happy. "Everyone's got their hobbies," she said. "I got yoga, and you got..." She paused, realizing that she had no idea what Axel did when he wasn't working here. She'd never even seem him out of the bar. "What do you do with your time, when you aren't working?" she asked.

"You're assuming I have a social life outside of work," Axel chuckled. "Getting this business off the ground takes a lot more than you'd think."
He leaned back against the counter. He doubted Adeline would let it drop there. She was open and candid with him after all. He just wasn't in the habit of sharing when he was behind the counter. She was just a young kid who wandered into the bar and convinced a demon to be fond enough of her that he kept her favorite teas in stock in case she stopped by. Besides, humans were naturally curious beings. They liked knowing the others around them. It wouldn't hurt to be social.
"I work on my bike, if you must know." he said. "It was a total scrap job when I got it. Pieced it back together."
His motorcycle was his pride and joy. Plus, it was his way of relaxing after a long and taxing day. Motorcycles didn't talk back. Nor did they cause anger issues, aside from when a part didn't work out.

"Oh come on, if an introvert like me can have a social life, albeit a small one, you can too," Adeline teased. Axel seemed a lot more outgoing to her. Then again, maybe he just did that to earn some extra tips? Being friendly was one of the main jobs as a bartender. If you were nice, smiled a lot, made conversation, your tips were bigger. Still, Adeline knew that she was more than just a regular customer to Axel by this point. He was like the big brother she never had, and she could ask him for advice about things that she was too anxious to bring up in front of her parents. It was nice, having a confidant like that. Axel mentioned his motorcycle, and Adeline's interest was caught. She remembered Axel giving her a ride home on it the first night they met, but she had no idea he practically built it from the ground up. "You built that yourself?" she asked. "That's impressive."

"You're funny," he replied. "My only committed relationship right now is to my job."
He had been trying to remedy that. By pursuing Anna, but she was keeping him at an arms distance after her incident. He was also trying to get his business off the ground. As the manager and one of the only decent bartenders he had managed to hire (sadly enough) he worked almost every night. It put a real damper on a social life. The most he had gone out to do was his usual grocery shopping. Even then, he was called by one of the waitresses because of a rowdy customer even his bouncers couldn't handle... No rest for the wicked.
"I did. It's my pride and joy." he told her.

"Really? No special somebody in the works for you?" Adeline asked. Surely Axel deserved somebody to love, didn't he? He was so nice, especially considering he was a demon. All the other ones Adeline had met in her life were either stoic or psychotic. Of course, even Pitch had an emotional side, once you got to know him and he trusted you enough to let it show. Adeline knew it was scary for him, to reveal himself like that, especially to her. But she always appreciated it whenever he did, because it helped her understand him a little better. "Did somebody teach you how to build motorcycles?" she asked curiously. "Or did you kind of teach yourself?"

"Fishing for romantic gossip?" Axel teased.
He would hold out a little longer before telling anyone about that sort of stuff. He didn't want to start telling people he was interested in Anna, in case she decided she didn't feel the same way. He didn't want to make things awkward for her. Also that way, no one would pity him if he were around her and they decided to remain friends. His pride wouldn't be able to take it if they pitied him. At least he had more guts to go after the things he wanted in life rather than let them slip past him.
"I always liked bikes." he shrugged. "If I didn't run the bar, maybe I'd have been a mechanic. Granted, getting yelled at to fix a car for cheap... Not my idea for fun."
Fixing bikes was better as a hobby anyways. He only ever had to worry about his bike.

"Well, you know nearly everything about my romantic life," Adeline said. "But I don't know a whole lot about yours." Of course, Axel might want to keep that under wraps. Not everyone blabbed about their love life, even to friends. Axel was really the only friend Adeline had even vaguely mentioned her relationship to Pitch too. She hadn't really talked about it with Namine, and her parents were completely in the dark when it came to that subject. "I guess," Adeline said when Axel commented about how being a mechanic probably wouldn't be the most fun job in the world. "But your people skills could probably bring in some business. People would like a mechanic with a personality."

"Not much of one to talk about, kiddo." he relented. "Trying to change it."
She wasn't wrong when she pointed out he knew more about her love life than his life in general. He just wasn't a very self revealing person. He was a better listener. It was probably one of his finer points, considering his temper management problem, his annoyance with stupidity and how violently prone he was. Things he couldn't help because of his baser nature. That and he didn't have a mind to mouth filter. He said the first thing that came to mind.
"Depends. Let's just say some jackass came in once to the bar and while he was drinking away his sorrows, he unloaded his car problems. He doesn't think his car needs an oil change comes in and complains that his engine blew up. When I tell him what he did wrong, it's my fault." Axel said, giving an example.

Adeline didn't say anything in response for a moment. She just sipped her tea and thought about what Axel said. When he said he was "trying to change it" did that mean he was trying to change his love life status? Was somebody possibly in the works? She couldn't tell for sure, and Axel probably wasn't going to spill the beans now. If this mystery person was still in the works, he probably didn't want to talk about them until they were a for-sure thing. "If you say so," she said. "If you ever wanna spill the beans though, I can always stop by. I blab so much to you about my life, the least I can do is listen to you blab about yours." She talked a lot more with Axel than a lot of other people she knew. Maybe it was time she just listened for a change. She gave a little nod at Axel's hypothetical situation. "I guess you have a point," she said. "Service workers like you always get the short end of the stick." Whether you were a waiter, a bartender, or someone who worked in retail, customer service jobs tended to have the rowdiest customers who loved to put the blame on the innocent workers. Adeline wasn't sure if she could handle a job like that. Dealing with people like that all day would be exhausting. Heck, if she got irritated enough, her demon side might just pop out and tell a customer to fuck off. And while that was amusing to think about, she was trying to keep incidents like that to a minimum.

"You know that door is always open." he reassured her.
The only bar in the city that wouldn't kick her out just because she was under-aged. He might get in trouble because she often sat at the bar and cops would think she'd reach behind the counter to grab a stronger drink. But honestly, the bar wasn't open yet. He never had any fear that she would steal alcohol from him. If she did, he would be the first one to try and get her some help. Besides, the Others Unit who often frequented the establishment, never had a problem with how he ran things. It was the humans he had to be mindful of.
"It takes a certain type of person to work this job." he agreed.
He did what he could to protect his staff. He didn't stand for anyone abusing his staff in any way. He had cameras to protect his people. He even threw out the troublemakers when they reared their ugly heads. He protected his staff and his customers. No one ever had to feel unsafe or unwelcome in his bar. He would likely 'spit fire' as his staff called it.
"I'd offer you a job when you're older but you're off for better things than bar life." he told her.

Adeline gave a little smile. That was enough for her, for now at least. Now that Thrax was dead and gone, she could focus on other important things in her life, like getting to know her friends better. And while she knew quite a bit about Namine, Axel was still mostly a mystery, and Adeline wanted to figure him out. Heck, she knew more about Pitch than him, and Pitch was the most closed-off person she'd ever met. She chuckled when Axel talked about offering her a job here, although he admitted there were better things out there. "I don't know if I could deal with customers. I'd be too quiet. You remember how I was when we first met." She'd practically been scared to death of Axel, fearful that he was another demon intending to harm her. It'd taken a bit of coaxing on his part to get her to relax.

"You'd probably be better suited somewhere else," he agreed.
Too many drunks would try their luck on her. It wouldn't be good for his health, his temper, the people around him or generally keeping the building standing. Plus, she was on for bigger and better things than just barkeeping. She was a smart young woman with lots of potential. He would hate to see her waste it somewhere where she wouldn't be happy. But if she needed a first job, he would be happy to give it. There were plenty of safer jobs behind the bar and in the kitchen where customers did not go. Like dishes. Every teen had to start somewhere when it came for job experience.

"Yeah, although I have no idea what I want to do now," Adeline said while staring into her mug of tea. "Before, I was just concerned with being the best witch ever. Then, it was hard to think about the future when I had Thrax to worry about. But now that he's gone...everything's kind of opened up at once, and it's a little daunting." Being the best witch ever didn't hold much appeal to her anymore, not when it'd gotten her into so much trouble. But spellwork was all she was really passionate about. That, and books in general. The ratio between her fictional books and spell books was about even. She loved a good mystery or romance novel almost as much as a book about potions or curses.

"You've got time. You're still young. You're going to change your mind a million times between now and whenever you figure out what you do." Axel advised. "It's best just to enjoy things as they go along."
He didn't know what it was about humans. They always needed to have a plan for everything. Have every little detail of their lives mapped out. It took away the surprises life had. Or left them unprepared for things that were just around the corner. Either way, he could see some benefit to it, but he mostly just saw downfalls. Too many hang ups and too much over thinking. They forgot to act sometimes because they just thought. There needed to be a fine line, though, Axel wasn't perfect either. He acted more than he thought. Rushed in, full of emotions and bad decisions.
