Omar was going to do it, he was going to break his bonds. Or try to. Now that he had Aqua he couldn’t afford to have a cancer that was Black Jack Davey in his life. He had to choose and he chose Aqua every time. So he organized a concert and invited Davey specially to come. He invited Shadow to come too, just in case Davey tried anything. Omar was confident in his own fighting ability but never would he take so much as a finger against his master. Heaven help him but he still loved Davey with every fiber of his being. But he had finally found someone he loved equally and had to take a stand against his master. As a bonus, he invited the head of the music studio that wanted his band. As such, it was one of the biggest nights of his career.
Omar took a deep breath and nodded to Weiss and they started on the songs, equal parts duet and solo for both of them. After the torture Omar still needed short breaks and letting Weiss have solo acts was a good way to compensate. Finally, it was time to sing the song and make his stand. “I’d like to dedicate this to a very old...friend of mine. You’ll know who you are. Hopefully, you get my point”
“A little sleep, a little slumber
A little folding of the hands
Left you weak, left you hungry
When there's supply you still demand
You're beginning to drag the ones you love down
Will this phase ever end?
A thousand arms to hold you
But you won't reach for any hands
‘Cause I don't feel like I'm getting through to you
Let me paint this clear, life is short, my dear
See me standing here, through all the torturous years
I wish you only knew
I stuck around for you!”
He was pouring every core and atom of his being into this song and at the end of the first chorus his eyes locked with Davey’s, which were cold and calculating. How could he love someone so heartless?
Because once, Davey had been loving.
“Maybe you should just fall
Leave the world and lose it all
And if that's what you need
To finally see
I'll be with you through it all
Bring on the pills, roll that dollar bill
Medicating will never heal
Relapse, rehab, repeat
Always thinking about the me, me, me
Self-destruct, spiral down
Until your want becomes your need
Please get up like I know you can
Or forever love the fall
‘Cause I don't feel like I'm getting through to you
Let me paint this clear, life is short, my dear”
he repeated the chorus and he could see it dawning on Davey, and the anger blooming in his beautiful grey eyes. Omar had given every part of his dignity, respect and self worth to this man and had only gotten abuse for it. He was done. He would always love him, yes, but Aqua was here now.
“I can't stand to see you down
Strung out, off the wagon, and unwound
Steady, steady, Oh God, Davey
I can't bear to hear the sound
Of your body hitting the ground
Oh God Davey, Davey, Davey…”
No going back now, he’d specifically called him out now. Omar finished the rest of the altered song to thunderous applause. It was his best performance yet. He gave the mike to Weiss to finish them out and walked to the back of the venue, where he sagged against the wall and took a deep shaky breath.
“What was that?” short and venomous from a smooth voice. But not unexpected. Omar took another deep breath and turned to face his tormentor, love of his life and master. “Davey-”
“Don’t ‘Davey’ me Omar” The man snapped coldly and walked over to Omar, grabbing his shirt and pulling him close. “First you give a very public announcement of love for a faery girl, as though you didn’t learn your lesson the first time, and now you call me out and shit in a song. Do you want to die? That can be arranged!” Davey shoved Omar against the wall and Omar smiled weakly at him.
“I found my dignity and self respect again” he answered with a shrug. “And I won’t be taking orders from you anymore. Maybe that’s going to kill me, but by God I’ll die happy and content” Davey wound up to punch Omar and Omar braced for impact.
“Everything alright, boys?” Omar looked over to Shadow and smiled as Davey scowled and lowered his hand.
“It’s all fine officer” he said gruffly and walked away. Omar slid down the wall and brought his knees to his chest and rested his forehead on them. He felt utterly drained and like this was a dream. An awkward hand rested on his shoulder and he looked up.
“You...uh...gonna be okay?” Shadow asked and Omar nodded.
“That was...my master” he said, just loud enough to be heard. “Joseph Korso, also known as Black Jack Davey. He’s the darling of the Unseelie Court and...the only one I loved with all my heart till Aqua” an unexpected weight lifted off his chest and he felt dizzy. Shadow looked at him in concern and Omar raised a hand. “I’m fine, honest. I just...I just told him I wasn’t going to do what he said anymore. I’m taking what little freedom I have and running with it. It’s going to take him a little while to come up with revenge for this” Now Shadow looked really concerned.
“Omar, was this the smartest thing to do?” the hedgehog cop asked and Omar laughed, a little hysterically if he was being honest.
“Nope. But I don’t care anymore. I don’t want to be a slave to my feelings for him anymore. I want to be with Aqua, I want my freedom to choose my future. Not be dictated to by a faery with his own broken heart” Shadow opened his mouth to ask further questions but Weiss showed up.
“Omar, the head of the studio is asking for y-is everything okay?”
Omar stood up, albeit shakily and nodded. “Yea kiddo, everything’s fine”
Without lookiing at Shadow, he walked off.
This fight was far from over, but at least he’d made a start.
