"...Yeah. I might do that."
There was just one problem, and it was a problem Shadow didn't want to tell Aqua. His time was coming. The time when he would bring on the end of the world. It was a challenge even to try and tell Jane. She had been trying to talk him out of doing such an act. It was inevitable. He would destroy the world...or rather, Disparion would destroy the world through him.

"You know, I'm a little surprised you came to me for this... I don't have the best track record in the romantic department." she mused.
With the way things had fallen apart with Terra or the way she had completely missed any of the cues that Omar had sent her way. Not only that but she and Shadow weren't close. He certainly wasn't sitting in on the gossip sessions with her, Sunshine and Yang. With Yang and Sunshine so head over heels in love and her learning to open her heart back up to someone new. But she supposed, she and Shadow were more alike than first glance. Shadow had been hurt too by someone he loved. Maria. He might not have loved her romantically, but he still felt the sting of losing someone that he cherished.

“To be honest, you’re the only one that doen’t immediately turn into mush the minute I bring up possible romance. The guys would be laughing their asses offf, and I doubt Dimitri’s tips on attracting women are my style.”
Aqua really was level on the notion. She didn’t start hammering about boys or whatever. She may have had a bad record of romance, but at least she was easy to talk to about. Just so long as salt wasn’t rubbed into the wounds.

"There's a time and a place," she fessed.
She wasn't going to lie, she had gotten a little mushy, but that was with Sunshine and Yang, who had already been talking about their boyfriends. And Aqua had still been in shock when Omar had asked her out. So she had been easily influenced to gush. But this was Shadow. His feelings deserved some more respect? He hadn't come over to her telling her he liked Jane for a physical trait or a characteristic of hers. He was genuinely asking for advice.
"Yeah, take what Dimitri says with a grain of salt."

Shadow snorted through his nose to try and stifle his laugh. What came out instead was a strange noise he was pretty sure only came from pigs on a farm. Or in his case, some weird pagan sacrifice. Somehow, talking about this with someone that was just as derp at dating as he was made it somehow...easier. Once he knew this wasn't some childish crush, he would be more confident with it. Fairy magic and all.

It caught Aqua by surprise to hear Shadow laughing, but she too started in. Dimitri wasn’t known for his sound romantic advice. He was a wonderful cop and otherwise good person. She put a hand to her face once she stopped giggling. She supposed this evening was full of firsts. Instantly, she regretted not getting to know Shadow better. They would have to do this more often. “The best advice I can give you? Is play it by ear. It will either work or it won’t.” she said. “But don’t be afraid to put yourself out there more… Don’t be like me?”

"Oh, what, be so naive that Jane has to put on a charity concert just to get my attention?" Shadow teased.
The Seelies had been awful to Omar. Sunshine had helped get him out of the predicament, but he was sure demons would torture Jane in ways that were probably worse than just a beat down. The thought made him clench his fist tightly. Jane had been through a metaphorical hell with her childhood. Forcing her into the real one would be punishment. But it reminded him of the other reason he was saying hi to Aqua. He would be leaving, and wouldn't be back.

"No, she'd probably have her kids make you a card or something." Aqua retorted.
She didn't think that Jane was a performer. She was only teasing Shadow to keep her face from exploding in a blush. She knew she had been obliviously. She didn't see what Omar saw in her. A small part of her was terrified he would come to his senses and realize he deserved better than her and leave. He didn't need to help her heal her broken heart and yet he did. He was doing whatever he could to help her mend the wound that Terra's loss had left her with.

Shadow rolled his eyes, “Yes because nothing quite confesses love like misspelled words in crayon.” The cynicism dropped just for a brief moment, “She asked me to talk to her class about police safety. Shows some progress I guess...”
Progress in that she didn’t want the future generation to be screwed over by cops. But she trusted him enough to talk to kids did show leaps and bounds.

"Are we talking about the same Jane here? She gave me the silent treatment at the last family dinner because of my job." Aqua pointed out. "She's only civil because of Namine."
She was doing her best with Jane, but she was very careful with police officers. She wasn't very trusting. The fact that Shadow managed to get past that wall she built around her heart had to say something. Aqua smiled despite that. She was only teasing Shadow. She was glad that Jane had someone she trusted. That she was opening herself up to Shadow.

"Between Namine and Sunshine, the whole world would be civil," Shadow joked.
He wondered how the little artist was doing. He saw her at the wedding next to a huge dog. Adrien was supposedly a much better caretaker. Shadow didn't tolerate any sort of child abuse, so when he had heard the awful things, well, he was lucky the office didn't blow up and instead a dummy in the training grounds did. That was yet another person he had to make things up for. Adrien had not only saved Namine, but Yang. He paused briefly, thinking of how he could word any of this.
"There's...another reason I stopped by. I...I'm leaving Bellerouge."
It was a good half-truth. He would be leaving Bellerouge.

"Going on a trip?" Aqua asked.
No... It didn't feel like it. The way Shadow had come, the way he was talking, she found herself frowning as she analyzed the behavior. Shadow never went out of his way to go see her before. The most they ever got to do was train together or occasionally make small talk over the pastries that Sunshine would bring into the office for everyone's hard work. She suddenly felt uncomfortable with his whole visit. Something was sitting wrong. She looked over Sunshine's partner, trying to discern what was happening.
"You're... coming back, right?"

"You could say that," Shadow answered.
It was a one-way ticket trip. A trip he probably wouldn't come out of. In his place would be the beginning of the apocalypse. He would never have time like this ever again. Time to just sit and talk with the people he never really made any sort of connections with. He ight as well fix this and make it right before he went away. Aqua asked if he was coming back, and he looked away.
"That depends. The people I'm going to visit might want to keep me."

"Shadow, what are you trying to say?" Aqua asked.
Shadow had no family. His closest friends were all in the BPD offices. Aqua understood a private life was private, but Shadow had been forthcoming with everything. He was a strong figure in the office. She knew that if she ever needed something she could go to him and he would do his utmost to help her. He had done just as much to help her with Terra's murder.

“There’s something I have to do. It’s something I have no choice in.”
He was pretty sure Aqua was going to hate him. He tightened a gloved hand into a fist. A clench That was so tight that his entire hand shook. Of course people were wanting him to stay. But he just couldn’t. Maria’s promise wouldn’t stop him from doing this terrible deed. At least he wasn’t...no.
“I’m being forced to destroy the world. I can’t lie about it.”
