Adeline wasn't sure if any of these books would actually help, but they were better than nothing. She'd been at the library for a while now, trying to find any information that might lead her to figuring out what her recurring dreams meant. Sure, there were more than a couple dream interpreters in the city, but Adeline wondered how accurate they would actually be. Sometimes, they just told someone what they wanted to hear so they could get a bit more money. No, Adeline preferred to do her own research. She wanted to figure this out on her own. She wasn't going to sit back and be scared like when Thrax was around. She was going to be proactive with this new problem she had. As she shifted the pile of books in her arms, she spotted one on a high shelf titled "Dream Interpreting 101." Figuring it might help, she tried to reach it, standing up on her tip toes while stretching her hand up.

Suddenly a pale and slender hand reached out and easily pulled the book off the shelf.
"I thought I might find you here, Adeline."
Pitch looked down at the witch, a small smile parting his lips as he held the book in his hand. He had been looking for her and had known that one of her favorite places in all of Bellerouge was the library. Materializing in the shadows of one of the shelves, he had quickly spotted her and made his way over on silent feet before pulling the book down from where it lay just out of her reach. He had always towered over her but if she ever minded, she never let on. Now he glanced down with his pale golden eyes at the book's title.
"Dream Interpreting 101. Something you would like to tell me?"
He raised a single dark eyebrow as he spoke before handing the book over to her.

Adeline nearly jumped out of her skin when Pitch suddenly appeared. She hadn't even noticed him approach. Then again, it was kind of his thing. Nobody she knew could move as quietly as him. He asked about the book as he handed it to her, and she gave a sigh. She'd been reluctant to tell him about her dreams for a while, but she knew it would be inevitable. She just hadn't wanted to make him worry even more about her. She knew he was as concerned about that gap in her memory almost as much as she was. "It's just...I've been having these weird recurring dream, for a while," she replied. "I thought maybe these books could give me a hint about what they mean." She remembered Jenna suggesting that maybe Pitch could have some ideas about what was going on. She wasn't sure how concerned she wanted him to get about them. He already had enough to deal with, and it wasn't like these were horrible nightmares that left her in a cold sweat. They were just weird.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
The smile fell from Pitch's face and was replaced by his classic expression of calm. However, to anyone who knew him well they might have noticed how the skin around his eyes was tighter and the line of his lips thinner, showing that he was actually as close to worried as a Terror Demon could get. This new cast to his face hadn't been there until Adeline had been found unconscious and under a tree in Raoul Park. He hadn't let the young witch know, but her being found that way and the fact that she couldn't remember anything that had happened beforehand had worried him.
However, doing his best to keep the mortal girl he loved ignorant of his concerns, he looked at her calmly enough while she spoke.
"I take it these dreams are different in some way from your regular slumbers?"

If Pitch felt that Adeline's statement was weird in any way, he didn't show it. His face was as calm as ever. She nodded in answer to his question. "Yeah. This woman pops up and...nothing really happens. She's just...there. But it feels like she's getting closer every time she shows up in my dreams." She sighed. "I don't know if she's a ghost or vision of the future or just a weird dream. But it's been happening a lot, so I'm sure it must mean something." Regular people might not think much of recurring dreams, but in the supernatural world, they meant everything. They could personify some inner turmoil going on, or provide some insight for things that hadn't happened yet, or even be reflections of the past. Adeline just felt like she was at a loss as to what this dream of hers could mean. But she was determined to find out.

Pitch didn't say anything, didn't even nod his head in agreement as she spoke but stood silent and still within the quiet confines of the library. Even after she had finished speaking he remained perfectly still, the only thing keeping him from looking like a statue the golden glow of his eyes. At last, he closed those yellow orbs and took in a slow breath before speaking.
"Adeline, you are not like other people. For anyone else such a reoccurring dream would mean little to nothing. People try to attach some meaning, some significance to such things but in fact few if any ever mean anything. Even those Others who posses the ability of precognition or future sight must always be wary of relying too much on dreams. You, however, are not only a gifted Witch but endowed now with the blood of a Demon. And thus, your dreams may indeed hold a deeper meaning within them."
Here he paused, slowly opening his eyes and looking down at the young woman who had somehow managed to capture a heart he never thought he had. Suddenly, he reached out a white hand and gently stroked her cheek, feeling the warmth of her skin beneath his fingertips.
"Tell me of this woman who haunts your dreams."

Pitch was very quiet for a long moment. Adeline couldn't tell if he was just taking this all in or thinking hard about what could be done. He finally spoke, sharing her feeling that these dreams probably meant something. His fingers were cool against her cheek, and his touch made her feel a bit better. She'd been a little worried that maybe she was just getting worked up over nothing. Even though Thrax had been gone for a long time, paranoia was still something she was dealing with. She wanted to make sure that nothing like Thrax ever happened again to her or those she cared about. When he asked her to describe the woman she'd been seeing, she thought for a moment. There wasn't much she could tell. She hadn't even gotten a good look at this woman yet. The best she could do was just tell Pitch what she knew, or at least the things she could make good guesses on. "I haven't gotten a good look at her yet. She's still...far away, and kind of in the shadows. If she's getting closer every time I dream about her though, I might be able to get a good look at her later. So far though, she doesn't look familiar."

Pitch listened to this as he stood before Adeline, his gaze locked on her face as she spoke. Even when she couldn't offer a physical description of the woman that haunted her dreams, Pitch's attention didn't waver from her.
"And what emotions do you experience during this dream. What exactly do you feel at the approach of this strange woman?"
The BPD detective's tone was quiet even for speaking in a library and it was clear that this simple question held some deep importance to him, even more than what the dream woman looked like.

How did she feel? Adeline hadn't thought about that too much. She wasn't scared or anything. So far, the woman didn't seem too menacing or threatening. And she didn't look too depressed either. Honestly, Adeline could boil down her emotions regarding this in one word. "Curiosity, mostly," she replied. "She's a mystery, and I want to figure it out. I want to know if she's a friend or a foe and what she wants. And at least I have a chance of finding some answers. Unlike the...other mystery surrounding me." This gap in her memories bugged her, and she had no idea of figuring out what happened. At least with this woman, she had a shot at solving the mystery. She could at least do this for herself so the people around her didn't worry.

Pitch finally moved, his head jerking to the side as if he were trying to get rid of some irksome insect buzzing around his head. He didn't say it but inside he felt yet another pulse of worry at the fact that Adeline couldn't remember anything that had happened before he found her in the park. He was a Terror Demon, a master of controlling and manipulating fears in other beings and as such felt little fear himself. However, he couldn't pretend bad things weren't happening in city recently, couldn't ignore the signs of what might be coming. What had happened to Adeline was only one of a string of recent events that were unusual even for a place like Bellerouge. Perhaps he was simply overreacting, but Pitch couldn't stop the name that kept coming to him when he thought over these recent occurrences.
Disparion....
If he was right in what was coming, if the barriers that kept the Mortal World and Hell separated were weakening....
Pitch looked up into Adeline's face and felt a deep wave of concern not for himself but for her fill his entire frame. He would suffer greatly for betraying his Master if ever he managed to invade the Mortal World but even his torture would be nothing compared to what those he had come to love would endure. He couldn't let that happen and surely, surely it was impossible...
Even so, a part of him could only wonder if Adeline's dream was somehow connected to this. Or was it something else completely? He couldn't be certain but one thing was for certain.
"You must be careful, Adeline. I know you are probably sick and tired of hearing this but you must be cautious. You possess great intelligence and have grown powerful but even so there are things the likes of which you have never encountered before. This woman may see harmless but it is difficult to tell what is true and what is merely a façade, especially within the realm of dreams."

Adeline couldn't tell what Pitch was thinking for a moment. Was he worried about this? More worried than usual? He usually didn't get too frazzled. Maybe it was just because this had to do with her and it wasn't some case for him to solve where he didn't know the people at all. It was always easier to get emotional over stuff like this when someone you loved was involved. When Pitch spoke, it was to caution her and ask her to be careful. She could understand why that would be his advice. Heck, the whole reason she was part demon in the first place was because she'd thrown caution to the wind and delved into something that was way over her head. "I know. I just...I feel like knowing what she is would be better than not knowing. It's like people say: the more you know about something, the less scary it is."
