"Miss Crispin!"
A reporter shoved the microphone into Elsa's face, much to her annoyance. Her trial with the Lafayettes, despite being behind kept to privacy in the courthouse, was being made into a huge spectacle. People were placing bets on who was going to emerge victorious. It was embarrassing to say the least. She narrowed her blue eyes at the reporter, but said nothing.
"Miss Crispin, what do you have to say about everyone turning this into a death battle?"
Well, that was a question she could answer. "If you wish to make this a big deal, I suggest asking the big question; would you put your own child into the stress Riku and Weiss Lafayette endured?"
The microphone fell away and Elsa could finally walk to her car. The reporters were slowly back down. realizing she was in no mood to answer questions. With each step, however, Elsa swore she was getting major deja vu. Every few feet, the same person appeared; white hair, lavender eyes. It was making her uncomfortable. Yet, she kept looking forward to her car, away from the courthouse.
As she hopped in her car and turned on the ignition, she sighed. It was one thing to be hounded by reporters, it was another to be dealing with something so personal. Weiss Lafayette was like a sister to her, and the abuse done at her parents...it cut into Elsa even more. She had reached out to the young voodoo queen, promised she could help. Instead, her help was shirked by shadow demons that could have killed Weiss.
It was in the safety of the car that she was open to cry. Not bawling, but letting her eyes mist and make everything somewhat blurry and salty. A few tears were sticking to her cheeks in frozen teardrops. It was becoming so much. She wasn't eating as much as usual, and she was beginning to lose sleep with studying file after file. Worse, her confidant Zircon's twin Zirconia was the defense attorney the Lafayettes had hired..and she was good. All of it was piling on Elsa. The last time she felt this seed of doubt had been in law school. She had been inexperienced but determined to make the world right. Now she was just sitting in terror.
The old brick building that housed Ralph's P.I. office loomed over head as she parked. He was the only person she could talk to about this. The last time she was stressed to tears, he had snapped her out of it. He had consoled her, let her know she was doing the right thing. While she didn't need a repeat of that, she did need to talk to someone that wouldn't break down because she was a rich lawyer. Or because she could freeze them with just a flick of her finger. Ralph was neither of those things. She exited the vehicle, clicking the doors shut and trailing the stairs to the door with his name on it. She knocked once, rocking on her heels like an anxious young girl. This was Ralph, her...she realized no one except Weiss knew that she had gotten back together with him. Well, Anna had an idea, but it was different than having verbal confirmation. And at least the papparazzi wasn't going to exploit her relationship on a public newspaper.
The door opened, and Ralph blinked down at her. "Elsa..."
The lawyer sniffed, looking up at him earnestly. "Hi, Ralph. Am...am I interrupting anything?"
Ralph looked anxiously at his office. Unlike hers, which was kept relatively clean, his was a clutter. A dented wall, old papers scattered around, and even a few unswept sections on the floor. He had been studying a few cases that not even the Others Unit had cracked open. It was a strange hand-me-down system Bellerouge had. If the main police detected Other activity, they sent in the Others Unit. If they got stumped, they would give it Ralph. He wished they could have provided more than just the basics of Clue, but he had to make do. He shook his head.
'Nah, I'm not doing anything. Are you okay?"
Elsa shook her head. "Stressed. And tired of being berated with questions the people shouldn't even be asking. I'm so close to getting them, Ralph. Thank God Weiss is in better custody. Otherwise this trial would be going on longer than it should."
Ralph chuckled grimly, "Yeah, but you do know that most of the city wants you to win, right?" His large hands came firmly but gently onto Elsa's shoulders as he ushered her inside. There was an unspoken set of understanding as they just looked at each other. Elsa wanted to look at him, but a prickling feeling came on her arms. there it was again, that woman continously following her. Elsa had felt the presence in the car, too. It was the kind of cold that even she couldn't tolerate. The kind of chill that made her want to curl into a ball and cry. She shook her head, looking up at her Giant boyfriend. He would protect her. He was doing that now, being that literal support for her. And here she stayed in that moment. The fear of being followed was still there, but she wanted to focus on Ralph. Have him be the rock that kept it all away. Without warning, Elsa kissed him. He was startled a bit, but returned the pecks once in a while, shutting the door behind him.

Sadness was replaced with bliss as Elsa returned home. Spending time with Ralph was exactly what she needed. She walked through the halls of her family's mansion, sighing contentedly. The trial would be again tomorrow, but she was composed. Ralph had gotten her food, and her bed was calling her. She opened the door, easing out of her shoes. But just as she laid a hand, footsteps came from behind. Her skin went up in goosebumps, and she turned around. The only person there was her roommate.
'Oh. Jenna,' she sighed in relief. "You startled me."
The hearthound said nothing. She just stared at Elsa, and then shifted her gaze upward. A fractal chandelier hung above them. And that was when everything happened quickly. The chandelier's chain snapped slightly. Before the pointed tip could impale Elsa, she ran. Glass and marble met, sending pieces everywhere. In the ensuing rush, the lawyer tripped over her ankles and fumbled. Her head hit the marble floor, and she tries to stand. Her blue eyes looked up to Jenna, asking for help. Instead, the hearthound stood silently, and Elsa could have sworn the eyes shifted from warm brown to lavender...
