Axel raised a brow. Pitch was much older than Adeline. He also worked in a dangerous line of work. But... Axel had also seen weirder couples and they made it work. He didn't particularly know Pitch Black. Just by name. A lot of demons knew him that way. But Axel made it a habit only to learn enough details to get by. Pitch was a cop now. None of his concern. Not like he was going and attacking other demons for existing.
"As long as you're happy, kid." he shrugged. "And you save the funny business until you're older."

Adeline gave a sigh of relief, glad that Axel approved. She could just picture him being the protective older brother type and threatening to set fire to any boyfriend that ended up hurting her. Although his comment about any "funny business" made her face turn red. "No, no, we haven't...I mean...we haven't even come close to...doing that yet," she stammered. If anything, their relationship was a bit low-key. Most of their touching involved little things: their fingers laced together, a comforting hand, a head resting against a shoulder. And any kissing they did usually involved stopping before things got too crazy, although Adeline felt like they were getting less restrained every time they did it. She hadn't really thought about taking things a step further, or if Pitch even wanted to. And now she wasn't sure if she had the courage to ask.

"Uh huh... I know how these things work, kid. Just don't spring any surprises like that on your parents yet." he said.
He was sure her parents weren't ready to be grandparents. Not with Adeline so young. Not when the young woman had her entire future ahead of her. She would be held back by a baby if she had one right now. But it was fun to tease her too. She went as red as his hair. And that was saying something. He would probably hold this one over her head for a while. She would find something to tease him back for. Eventually.

"Oh God, no," Adeline said, her face turning even redder. Her parents might have taken her and Pitch's relationship okay, but she doubted they'd react the same way if they thought she was pregnant. And by Pitch, no less. What would a kid of theirs even be? Half witch, half demon? Full on demon? Adeline stopped her train of thought before it made her even more nervous. She didn't need anymore anxious thoughts swirling around her head. "Although, to be honest, when I told them about me and Pitch, they weren't that surprised," she said. "They already knew. They were just waiting for me to tell them." That was really all they'd wondered: why Adeline had taken so long to tell them. Other than that, they'd been pretty accepting.

"Yeah, I doubt much would get past your folks." Axel laughed.
She was mortified. That much as obvious. It was still too much fun to watch her squirm. She would probably implode if he pushed her further. She just couldn't take it. He knew that she wouldn't do anything reckless. She was a smart girl. Everything about her screamed caution. She wouldn't do anything she would regret and certainly not for a guy.

"Well, there's not much in my life they need to keep up with," Adeline said before taking another sip of cold water. "I'm not like other teenage girls whose best friend changes every few days or keeps breaking up and getting back together with their boyfriend. Things are...relatively straight-forward with me." Sure, a lot of the events of her life were unusual, but they were simple and easy to understand. She only had a few friend, and Pitch was the only one for her. Nothing could ever change how she felt about him. "I guess you could say Pitch is kind of the same. He has even less of a social life than I do. But he doesn't seem to mind too much." At best, Pitch could do his job well with someone at work. That was usually the closest anyone got to him. As of right now, Adeline seemed to be the only exception.

"You're mature for your age," Axel noted. "You don't do the things that kids your age would normally do."
There was nothing wrong with that. It just made for a different lifestyle. But he supposed 'normal teenage life' was out the door once Thrax got involved. Hard to focus on getting your hair and nails done when you've got a demon stalking you. Same for his ex girlfriend. Adeline didn't deserve that. She should have had a normal teen life, but it was robbed from her.

"No, I guess I don't," Adeline said. "That was kind of how I was even before Thrax showed up though. Other kids were partying and hooking up and I had my head stuck in a book. I was always working on mastering a spell. Then, once I did that, I went onto the next one." That was what had mattered to Adeline back then. She'd wanted to be the best, to know every spell she could get her hands on. It was primarily the reason she'd summoned Thrax in the first place. She'd just wanted to see if she could do it, if she was smart and powerful enough. Now, being the best didn't matter to her at all. She'd found value in things more worthwhile, like her friends and Pitch. Striving to better herself instead of being the best witch of her grade had made her a lot happier, and it had helped her from wallowing in self-pity all the time. She liked to think that other people she was close to had gone through the same thing. Pitch had once been the terror of Bellerouge, the literal Boogey Man. Now here he was, working as a cop, and he'd learned to open up to people he cared about. Axel had used to do dirty work for Cruella, and now he was helping friends and making sure anyone who worked with him stayed out of harm's way. All three of them had changed for the better.

"Yeah, I figured you for a little wallflower." Axel mused.
He doubted even when she was legal to drink she was going to go on any benders. He would never have to worry about that from her. But he would be a bit upset with her if she got her 'first drink' from anyone else but him. He would keep her teas on hand until then. Even now, she was all work and no play. A kid like her should be out and having fun. He didn't care how, but as long as she was enjoying what she was doing.
"There's so much out there for you to see and do..." he told her. "So don't forget to live a little."

"I will, once this whole...Ariel business is over and done with," Adeline said. Until she was gone, everything was kind of put on halt. Adeline was going to be constantly looking over her shoulder, wondering if she was near. Although, having Pitch's Nightmare nearby made her feel a little safer. At least it hadn't swooped in and tried to attack Axel during their training session. That could have gone horribly wrong. At least it seemed to understand that Adeline wasn't in any danger when she was doing this. Adeline hoped it stayed that way.

"Live each day like it's your last kid," Axel said. "That way you make the most of each moment."
Humans weren't like demons like him. He would live longer than her. Humans often forgot that they were mortal. That they wouldn't live forever. That they had a limited time. Adeline could have any number of things happen between Ariel and now. Until then he would do what he could to protect her and help her protect herself. She was going to get stronger so she could defend herself.

Adeline gave a wry chuckle. "With all the crazy stuff that happens in this city, it could be anyone's last day." Bellerouge had a reputation for being wild, and how could it not be, with several different kinds of Others, plus humans, living together in one space? Spells gone wrong, vampires feeding off innocent people, stuff like that could happen anytime. Or you could just go in an ordinary way, like a car crash or alcohol poisoning. Thrax had died in a way Adeline had never expected. She always thought he'd go down in some showdown with the cops or something. Instead, he'd been taken out by the very same people he teamed up with. If anyone thought about it for too long, it could make them paranoid of every leaving the house. But Adeline didn't want to be like that. That was an old habit of hers that she was trying to let go of. She didn't want to be a shut-in anymore.

"Don't be so grim, kid. You're going to be one of those old biddies who kicks it in her sleep," Axel said. "That is why we're out here."
Axel would do everything in his power to assure that. Kids like her needed protecting after all. Especially with demons about. Adeline was a good kid. She didn't deserve a life like this, and yet it was happening. They had no choice but to make the best of it. And she seemed happy anyways. She had friends. She had family. She was going out and doing stuff that kids her age did. Pretty sure she mentioned a yoga class. It was all very normal and he was thankful for that.

Adeline gave a laugh. "Me as an old lady is an amusing thought," she said. Although, thinking that far into the future left her with a lot of uncertainty. She was growing older every day, while Pitch had looked the same for ages. He was immortal. He was going to outlive her. It was a matter of fact. Adeline hadn't thought yet about what she was going to do. Most people who wanted to be immortal ended up becoming vampires, and she was reluctant to do that. Or maybe since she had part of a demon inside her, she'd age a bit slower. Who knew? She might have to start looking into that.

"You could be one of those crotchety old ladies who curses kids who get on your lawn," Axel teased.
Adeline wasn't like that. She wouldn't curse some kid just because. But he was trying to get her to laugh. She had worked hard and despite all the seriousness that floated around her, she needed to remember it was okay to enjoy herself from time to time. She had to have fun. All that doom and gloom was not going to be good for her later down the line. Even if there was a psycho demon chick after her. She had to be pretty stressed just thinking about it all. Axel didn't want that. She was still a kid in his eyes. A hard working, not your average every day kid, but still a kid.
