Adrien jolted out of bed when he heard the alarm going off. He had it rigged so that it would sound in his room first, before it would contact the police. He certainly hadn't wanted the police snooping around his house while the heat from 'Chat Noir' died down. The alarm could only mean one thing. Someone was in his house. They were breaking into his safe. He hastily got out of bed and raced down the halls. He didn't care about most of the things in the family safe. Things that no one could have were safely tucked away in different drop boxes in different banks around the world. But there were a few precious items in there that no one could have. No one. He rounded the corner, seeing a shadowy figure at the safe.
"Stop where you are!" he growled, low and dangerous.

"Mierda."
The words escaped Manolo's mouth as soon as he heard the alarm sounding somewhere in the depths of the mansion. He quickly rose to his feet from where he had been kneeling in front of a large safe, the contents now in a bag slung over his back. In the darkness of the mansion, he looked like a skeleton more than ever. However, he knew his disguise was no longer full proof. If someone saw him, if word that the Calavera Thief had appeared again got back to the BPD....
Ever since his run-in with Yang, ever since he had realized she was an officer and she had uncovered the truth of his alternate criminal identity, he hadn't tried to steal again. Anyone with the facts might have simply assumed that Yang's threat of turning him in had been the catalyst to stop his thievery, but they would be wrong. True, he had known he would have to be beyond cautious now that someone, and a cop no less, had discovered his secret. However, that wasn't what had kept him from stealing from the rich and elite of Bellerouge. No, that had been Yang herself and what she had said to him standing on a stormy pier not so long ago. He tried to get her words out of his mind, tried to forget the sympathetic look in her purple eyes as they had spoken and yet he seemed powerless to do so.
So for a time he hadn't donned his Calavera Thief look and taken to plundering the aristocrats of the city. However, old habits die hard and hatred even harder. He couldn't give up what he saw as just punishment of the greedy scum of his home and another chance to show up the so-called police, despite the dangers of it and knowing that if the Calavera Thief was linked back to a crime he could end up in jail. And so he had finally taken up the mantel of the skeleton figure once more and selected another mansion to be his target. This one happened to belong to a powerful and extremely wealthy family by the name of Agreste.
After casing the mansion for a day, Manolo had found it easy enough to bypass the security system with a well-placed potion and once inside had thought himself in the clear. He'd stealthily moved from room to room before finding the safe behind a large portrait of what had to be the Agreste family. He had looked at them for a brief moment, aware that the only one left alive in the picture was the son. After a moment, he'd set to work on the safe and in less than 15 minutes had it open. He'd just cleared out the entire thing, not really paying attention to what all he took, when the alarm sounded.
Now as he stood in front of the portrait with the stolen goods, he could have kicked himself for being so careless. Of course there could have been a second system in place and he could have easily disarmed that too but he had forgotten. Perhaps it was the lingering memory of Yang or something about that family portrait....
Either way, he had to get out and fast if he didn't want to get caught. However, before he had taken more than a few steps towards an adjoining room, a growling and low voice had spoken out of the darkness. Freezing in place, Manolo turned and looked towards the shadowy figure fast approaching, is glowing yellow eyes almost like twin candle flames in the darkness of the mansion.
He stood still as a statue for a moment... and then the paralysis broke and he was running, jumping over furniture as he moved away from the figure that had discovered him. Perhaps they hadn't seen him fully.... If that was the case, he had to get out and get out now!

Adrien snarled under his breath. Of course the guy ran, he would have run too. He had run before, aside from the one time he had taunted the police, but he also ended up working with them too. So... complicated relationship with them. Now he had hung up his mask and just fed the information to Shadow or Yang. He hadn't had to be an active thief. Until now. He gave the chase, easily keeping up with the figure who stole his belongings, doing a standing long jump over the couch and racing after the man. His mother's jewels had been in that safe. Anything of his father's held no sentimental value, but until Adrien caught the man and figured out what he took there would be no telling.
He would have to have a call to that security company he had been using. It was supposed to be difficult to crack. It had even taken him a day to get through it on his own. Needless to say they either lessened the security coverage or they hadn't kept him updated like he demanded. They were going to be fired after he got through with this. He reached out, his fingertips brushing against the back of the man's bag. He couldn't risk using his powers. It would destroy the bag, but it could also destroy everything in it. Of all the nights for Yang not to be staying over, he lamented. But he was a thief. He was Chat Noir. He could stop the man from getting out of the house. And he would.
