"Tested by the flames." Aqua murmured.
Because in these difficult times, you could tell the good from the bad quite easily. People like Adrien and Yang and Weiss were out there doing what they could to help people. Whether by opening their homes, fighting the monsters or protecting those who could not protect themselves. She had yet to hear news of anything the mayor was doing. Or even any of the other well off people. Though Elsa Crispin had visited Adrien looking rather worn and weary.
"How are you holding up?"

"I'm okay. It's everyone else I'm worried about," Weiss replied. "Not everyone knows how to fight, or has a big house with top-notch security." Anna was the first person that popped into her head when she said that. Sure, she wasn't a damsel in distress, but she wasn't the best fighter in the world either. And Wally was fast, but could he outrun every monster in the city? Any other person with powers like that might have high-tailed out of here, but Wally was a selfless guy. He'd probably try and help people. Maybe she could shoot him a text later and tell him to leave the people-saving to someone like Kid Flash. That was literally the guy's job, and Wally could focus on getting somewhere safe. She blinked, just realizing that her thoughts had strayed to him again. Weiss come on, now is not the time to be mooning over the guy. You have the literal end of the world to deal with, she thought to herself.

"That's why people like you and I are out here." Aqua said.
People like her and Weiss couldn't just sit back and watch. They couldn't turn a blind eye to suffering because they had suffered. Their past made it impossible for them to turn away from people who needed help. She worried for Weiss. The girl was young. Not only that but she had gone through an ordeal not even a few months ago. But Aqua wouldn't be able to force her to go to safety. All she could do was watch her back and make sure she didn't get hurt again. It was the least she could do. For Weiss. For Riku.

Aqua's words made Weiss smile a little. Hopefully, the two of them could do some good here while this apocalypse got solved. She had faith that the Others Unit would figure something out. It was what they were good at. And if they literally helped save the world, then maybe people's opinions of them would be a little better. She knew some people just thought of them as a bunch of freaks solving even freakier crimes, but that wasn't all there was to them. A lot of members had gone through shit, but they chose to help people anyway. What could be more noble than that?

"We'll get the city back to normal, Weiss, just you wait."
She knew Sunshine and the others were doing their best. But Aqua had too many people depending on her directly for safety or supplies. She was one of the few who could (if need be) escape from the city to call for backup. Besides, out of most people on the taskforce, she was the one who knew the cruelty of demons on a personal level. She refused to let anyone lose a loved one the way she had lost Terra. Needlessly. With a demon killing for the sake of killing.

Weiss didn't know if Aqua was actually hopeful or if she was just acting optimistic for her sake, but she appreciated it all the same. Losing hope would make getting through this a lot harder. Worrying about things that were out of her control wouldn't help. She just had to focus on helping who she could and taking care of herself. "Is there ever a normal for this city?" she joked with a laugh.

"Maybe not entirely, but there is routine." Aqua mused. "I miss going to Nevermore for sweets, going to the bar and listening to Omar sing, even driving around with Riku catching criminals."
Routine was nice, it was safe, it was normal. This was chaos and unpredictable. Demons were smart. They looked for weaknesses in their defenses. They attacked and killed as they saw fit. Some just caused injury or damage to public property. Others... She would not be repeating what they had done in front of Weiss. Things had just gotten back to a routine after the prison break. And the worst criminal that had escaped from that - Vanitas - was still at large.

Weiss was quiet for a moment as Aqua reminisced about the stuff she missed doing since the apocalypse started. In a way, Weiss felt the same way. She missed practicing her singing, hanging out with friends, spending time with her family. And her family wasn't just Riku anymore. Sunshine was a part of it now, and Weiss wanted her to feel welcome. Although, if she was honest, she'd admit that Sunshine's family was taking her and Riku in more than the other way around. There was just so much warmth between them, and they seemed to determined to share it with Riku and Weiss and drive away the coldness left behind by their own parents. Although Weiss wondered if Aqua was worried about Omar the same way she was about Wally. Sure, Omar was no push-over, but if Weiss had to guess, she'd say he was better at singing than fighting. Was he on her mind? "He'll be okay," she said reassuringly. "Omar, I mean. He's tough. And Jane's good with a gun. If any demon wants to hurt him, she'll shoot 'em dead first."

"I suppose you're right. There's a reason he's been around for as long as he has been." she mused.
She and Omar were new to the relationship thing. She would really be upset if something happened to him when they were still exploring 'them' in the first place. She was still on shaky grounds with him but was fond enough to say if something happened she would have regrets. She didn't want to see things come to an end before they even began. As for Jane, Aqua wasn't close with her yet. The woman wasn't very open yet, but she would give it more time.
"Is there someone you're looking for?" Aqua asked.

Aqua seemed to feel a little better after what Weiss said, and that made her happy. However, Aqua soon asked if there was anyone she was looking for, and the young girl found her face turning red. She still found her feelings for Wally a little embarrassing, especially when there were more important things going on right now. But surely, if anyone would understand, it would be Aqua. "I...guess so?" she said, her voice a little hesitant. "He's a...friend. Wally. I met him a while back. He's got super speed and stuff." She brushed a lock of white hair out of her face. "I just hope he's doing okay. I mean, super speed can only get you so far you know."

"It sounds like he'll be just fine. He can zip out of danger." Aqua said. "But I'll keep an eye out for you if I find him."
It was the least she could do for Weiss. There were very few people in her corner after she decided to leave h er parents for good. Just Riku and their aunt, possibly the Agreste boy. But if Wally got through to Weiss, he was someone important. If he needed help, Aqua would do just that. Because she knew what it was like to lose someone too soon.
"How did you two meet?"

"Thanks," Weiss said, giving a relieved smile. That made her feel a little better. She just hoped Wally didn't feel like she was babying him or anything. She knew he was capable guy that wasn't about to do anything terribly stupid. Aqua asked how they met and Weiss was quiet for a moment as she thought back to her and Wally's first encounter. "I was heading back from the library. I was...actually looking up stuff about the shadow spirits that were hanging around me at the time. He kinda ran into me and he was new. He didn't really know who I was, or how big the LaFayette's were. It was...kind of refreshing." She'd acted a little cold towards him at times, but he hadn't minded. And his warm nature had made her night, even if it was during that dark time when her shadow spirits followed her every move.

"I'm really happy for you Weiss." Aqua said.
And she truly was. Weiss deserved to have friends her own age who didn't look at her differently because they were told to by parents or they wanted to cozy up to her because of her name. She needed true and loyal friends. Not fair weather friends, who only wanted to ride on the coattails of the good times and disappear when the going got rough. No one deserved flaky friends like that. Aqua just hoped Wally was one of those sorts who would help out if Weiss needed it.
"I hope you find him."

Well, Aqua seemed to approve, so that was nice. Or maybe she just liked the fact that Wally seemed to make Weiss happy. Either could be plausible. Riku could get that way too. If Weiss found something she enjoyed or something that made her happy, he really encouraged it so she'd have an easier time fighting her darker thoughts. While she'd healed quite a bit from the damage the shadow spirits and her parents had done, the mark they'd left behind would always be there, and she'd always have to live with it. If anything could help that mark hurt a little less, Riku was all for it. And it looked like Aqua was the same. "I hope so too," she said.

Aqua paused quietly, looking over the near abandoned city. People had fled. People were in hiding. Some people might not return to the city, but she knew that the city would flourish again once the demons were gone. It was just a matter of when they were gone. She had yet to find a way to banish the monsters back from whence they came, but she had no doubt the other officers were working tirelessly to restore the order. Especially Sunshine considering her partner was missing.
"We will. We just have to be patient." she replied. "We've got good people out there working hard."
