Sunshine couldn't decide how she felt. On the one hand, Shadow was back. The world was no longer in a demonic underworld. Sure, there would always be creatures of the night still to fight, but with Disparion gone, they probably were scrambling like feral colonies, making them easier to catch. But now, she had her own feral colony to take care of. Shadow was recovering in the hospital from his intense fight with Disparion. So, the blonde took time to help her family in the Nevermore Kiosk. She brewed coffee and tea, and exhaled at the same time as a French press when she finished an espresso order.
"Order up!" she chirped, ringing the bell.

Riku could not stop staring at the sky. He'd been in his early teens when it had gone red, and he had gotten used to it. Blue was beautiful, jopeful, wonderful. It made him happy to see it, he had not realized just how oppressive red could be. He was walking to the Nevermore to say hi to his in laws and surprise his wife. He had bluebells, lady's lace and scarlet pimpernel flowers. There was a greenhouse that sold certain flowers year round. They might not have been her favorites, but they were pretty and bright, and promised of summer to come. He got to the cointer and grinned at her. "Mrs. Lafayette. I feel I have not seen you in years" his face turned more serious. "How's Shadow? Gonna see him when I have more than an hour to spare"

Even with her back turned and facing away, just hearing her husband talk to her made Sunshine turn just as red as the cinnamon powder container next to her elbow. Sh slowly turned, a put full of cream ready for steaming for the next customer. There he stood, silver hair and everything, clutching a bouquet of dainty springtime flowers. "Why, Mr. Lafayette..." She added the heated cream to the order she was working own, her own flirty nature turning cold with seriousness. "He's in the hospital now. They found him outside the city limits. He was like..." she shuddered, thinking about her partner's health, "the most important thing to take away is that he's alive."

"Well, at least he is alive and last I heard, stable. We are lucky he was only injured" This was also making Riku wonder if he should just make a ton of gris gris for the whole force, minus Pitch, if he came back. There seemed to be an awful lot of dark spirit and demon encounters going on. "I brought the scarlet pimpernel to brighten up the tables, get everyone ready for spring. If your parents don't mind of course. The other two are for you" he deftly separated them and put them out of the way of customers. "They can keep for a little, but will do netter in water" he grinned at her, excited. "Sun, I forgot what it was like to see a.blue sky. It is so beautiful"

"What are you trying to do, promote people to a secret society?" Sunshine remembered reading The Scarlet Pimpernel as a required book for high school. To say it bored her wouldn't exactly be a lie. She just remembered the small group working to ensure peace. It was...well, it was like the Others Unit. They worked to protect the people from a dark underworld.nHe was grinning so widely that she found herself beaming with him. "I know!" She let out an excited giggle and did a small happy dance.

He laughed. "No, actually. Scarlet pimpernel was also called the poor man's weather glass. In the book, the society used the flower to represent change. Rather clever, really. While in flower language it means youth, I thought you could see it with the book meaning. Change. I think we all need that, don't you?" He laughed as she danced, cimpletely overcome with joy. "I missed the blue. I adore this. Perhaps after visiting Shadow you and I could walk in the park? Just watching the sun set, blue sky turning purple. I would enjoy doing that with you" he just didn't know when that would be. People had need of his abilities, he was pretty good at getting rid of dark energy. But it was a lot of work.

"I wouldn't know. I haven't touched the book since required reading in high school." That and, well, if she were honest, certain books she had read in English she would rather forget about. Her hands reached for the bluebells and queen anne's lace that she said were for her. The blue and white blossoms were tiny, but sweet, just like this gesture. Sunshine reached for a cup underneath the counter to fill with water, letting the springtime blossoms float daintily on top. He asked her for a park trip, and she smiled. It was still winter in Bellerouge, but she knew why he was asking. The blue sky was back and he wanted to enjoy every moment. "I'd love that."

"While I haven't used many English flowers, knowing every known plant and all recorded meanings and properties was a necessary part of my training. I think my parents eased up on Weiss in that regard, actually" he had been clever about it, dropping 'random' facts about poison and acting very excited when he found poisonous plants. His parents had abuptly cut the majority of the plants out of his lessons. He had been quite pleased with himself. He grinned widely when she agreed to the walk. "It might be cold, but the frost sparkles like diamonds, not rubies. Everything looks so nice, despite the city damage" he sombered a bit. "I hope Shadow can enjoy it soon, and nobody blames him for what happened. Thay wouldn't be fair to him"

"You're not just making fun of me being half British?" Sunshine teased. It was refreshing to hear that not too many people studied the Victorian language of the flowers. In her job. it was required. Who knew when some sicko would be coming in and be using the language of flowers as a calling card for some kind of murder? Then again, plants were a big deal in voodoo training, so of course, Riku and Weiss would know their meanings and how to care for them properly. She smiled ruefully at him describing the dew being like diamonds, and hopefully nobody getting huffy at him. "He's kind of walking a thin line. He started the apocalypse yet he also saved us."

"I think if we go back enough, a lot of people are half british or european in some context or another" he told her with a warm smile. "So if I were poking fun, I could be poking it as my stuffy parents as much as you, no offence. They're just the most extreme case of people I could think of" he grinned back at her before hesitating. "My cousin Ichabod always did say finish what you started. And Shadow did. He did start the apocalypse, and he ended it, brought back proper sunsets and blue skies. The city got wrecked, but we can rebuild"

“The city was wrecked ten years ago,” Sunshine muttered, “when a twelve year old got murdered.” She shuddered tonthink how much was going on in Shadow’s head when he had started the first wave. Was it as bad as this wave? Probably not. All he had done then was turn the sky red and make it rain monsters. “But I’m only repeating stuff we already know.”

Riku grimaced. "Tensions with Others, particuarly demons are high at the moment. But I don't blame Shadow. And everyone who really knows Shadow would agree. I mean, you Jane and Yang will happily defend him, and you three know him best out if everyone, besides his old partner. We are gonna protect him, and everyone with non human blood or traits, until the hate stops" some of the christians had yelled at him for devil worship. But it wadn't anythimg new, just a bit worse than before, but Sun didn't need to know. She'd worry. It was bad, but it would get better. Bad things always got better. The blue.sky was proof.

Sunshine poured another coffee order, ringing the bell to call up the next customer. “We can only do so much, Riku. At least we’re not in the burning times or public executions or whatever.” She wrung her apron idly. The guilt of not being with her partner and out on the streets helping with cleanup was getting her antsy for adventure. Maybe a park walk would do good...

"They might happen uf we don't get tensions down" Riku said gently. "Every species has a dark and nasty side. It could get pretty bad" street fights were one thing, attacking people because of what they were was an ugly truth that still happened. He didn't want it to get worse than it was. He noticed her getting a little antsy. "Do you want to go on patrol with me? Aqua is doing something alone, so it'd be nice having someone to help with the patrol"

Sunshine was torn. Thomas was ringing up customers and she could hear the intern stressing out loud. A veteran worker had disappeared, leaving the slack to be picked up everywhere at Nevernore. She shut the lid of her coffee order and set it aside. “I am sick of smelling coffee and syrup.” Then wait until Valentine’s Day...ugh she was sick of molten lava cake lattes just by thinking about it. She untied her apron and stepped out from behind the counter. “Patrol would be a good break.”
