Jenna would have come to the hospital sooner, but she had been dealing with a few personal problems. The second she heard that Shadow was there, she rapidly finished what she had needed to do before heading there. She nosed her way into the room that he was in, focussing on his heart alone. She hated hospitals, too much suffering. "Shadow?" She questioned when she arrived at his room.

Power naps were becoming a frequent part of his day. Not like Shafiw could do anything else while he was stuck in a bed letting ripped muscles heal. The meds didn’t exactly help either. He was slowly coming out of one such nap, hearing a female voice call his name. Shadow’s red eyes glanced over. Jenna was in the room. “Oh. Hey, Jenna.”

Jenna put her front paws on the bed so she could see Shadow. He looked awful, though that was to be expected. "How's the recovery coming?" She asked, her ears instinctively angling toward his heart.

Shadow waited for the grogginess to settle before he answered. Between the muscle tears and the medicine, he was awful. He may have been out of purgatory, but he was still in that nightmare. The fight or flight reflexes were continuing to run rapid fire, but with the medicine, they had temporarily been pushed aside. “Mostly I’ve been tired. Walking’s a bitch.” Physical therapy was exhausting. He was able to take a few steps, but they hurt.

Jenna merely nodded. What would be the point of saying anything? She felt that if she said anything to comfort him, countless people would have already said it. She also felt that if she said anything other than what had come to say, she would loose her nerve. His heart sounded like it always did, slightly weaker, but that was to be expected due to the drugs and recovering. "I um wanted to tell you something." She said hesitantly.

"Well, say it while I'm awake." It was a gruff statement, but also a slight jab. The drugs they were putting him on to keep the pain and from overworking his muscles were known for being creepers. He had several instances of where a nurse was giving him advice on moving when he got out only to wake up at five the following morning. He didn't need any get well soons. Waaayy too many cards with fluffy designs saying that had been discovered.

"I promise it's not the words you've been hearing countless times." Jenna said. "Though I share the sentiment." No putting it off anymore. She took a deep breath. "I....Ihavefeelingsforyou." She blurted out in one breath. Her ears flattened against her head in embarrassment as she waited for his response.

Why? It was the only question Shadow had for her. Why would anyone have feelings for him? Jenna barely knew him! He was silent after her confession, looking at her with bewilderment and confusion. Telling her the truth would hurt her. He didn’t feel anything for her that she wanted to hear. Heck, he didn’t know she was...But it made sense. Her feelings viewed him as someone trustworthy. He kept her secret like he said he would.

The fact that he wasn't saying anything was, troubling to say the least. Jenna was sorely tempted to see what his heart revealed of his feelings, but she didn't. She respected Shadow too much. While she did want to ask him to say something, she was an exceedingly patient being. Her eyes, however begged for him to say something, anything.

"Why?" There had a long enough pause for him to process all of it because of his slowed mind. He had moved on from Sunshine, which meant that, well, perhaps he could glue together the uneven heart he had. No one ever confessed having feelings to him, not even once. It made his heart clench a little. Jenna might care for him, however what he felt for her didn't reach the standards

Why? It was such a deceptively complex question. With all the people Jenna had asked for advice about how to approach her problem, none of them had asked why she had feelings for him. "Because you don't judge beings for what they are, rather for who they are. You're good and kind." She answered. "And you listen when people come to you with things that are troubling them."

"I'm glad you see that. Heck, a lot more do, the more I sit here in bed thinking about it..." He trailed off. Well, she did what he was expecting. Yet there was one problem. What she wanted he couldn't give. He didn't love Jenna. Not in the way she wanted him to love her anyways. The irony; she was a hearthound, and he was going to break her heart. After bracing himself, he sat himself up. "I'm sorry I don't feel the same way as you." It was as blunt and as true as a confession he could muster.

Even though she had figured as much it still hurt. Against her better judgment, she listened to his heart to see what it could tell her about his feelings. It only confirmed what he had told her. At least he had been honest and hadn't toyed with her emotions. Her ears and tail drooped slightly. "I see." She said after a pause. She blinked rapidly, holding the tears back. "....Thank you for being honest." She said as she took a few steps back debating if she should leave now or try and hold a conversation with him.

There was an echo of silence for a while. Footsteps from nurses walking by would disrupt it but then fade away. Jenna's body was shifting lower, to the position of a dog that was becoming submissive. He told the truth, and that was all that mattered. The medicine started to kick in again, and he was letting the drowsiness made him turn away and close his eyes. ((end thread))
