After Axel had helped one of his staff members bury her daughter because of the demon attack, Axel was overwhelmed by the need to drop in and check on Anna. He hadn't seen her before the attack. Nor had he seen her after. He had to make sure she was okay. That she wasn't caught up in the mess or waiting in the morgue to be claimed. He wasn't sure what he would do if she was. He was just starting to open up to her and allow himself to be vulnerable with her. It left him feeling rather helpless and he loathed the feeling. Relief washed over him when he saw her house.
"Anna?" he called, knocking on her door.

No one answered the knock. However, a shadow suddenly appeared behind Axel and there were several moments of silence before a cautious yet hopeful voice spoke.
"Axel?"
Anna looked at the shape standing before her door, trying to stay calm despite the sudden spike of fear that had driven through her body upon seeing a shadowy figure standing in her doorway. She had come from the store down the street from her apartment, one arm holding a brown bag full of groceries. Ever since Disparion had appeared, since the sky had turned from red to blue again and demons had swarmed Bellerouge like a swarm of locusts, ever since Shadow had disappeared... well, needless to say she had been working like a dog. The BPD was swamped by all the demonic attacks that had begun to plague the city and she had been doing her hardest and best to help as much as she could. She knew it couldn't make up for her own mistakes with the Serum, but she had felt a driving need to do all she could and more.
And to that end she hadn't been able to check up on Axel. For a while it had simply been too dangerous to even walk the streets and part of her was simply terrified by what she might find. Would he be missing like others? Would he have given up on trying to be human and opted for his old lifestyle? Worst of all, would she merely find him cold and lifeless, just another body waiting on a metal slab in the morgue for her to work on?
These thoughts had followed her everywhere. Still, she knew it would do no go to let them stop her helping. So she had worked. And she had worked long and hard, so much so that it wasn't until she arrived home this evening that she realized her fridge only contained some ketchup and a single mushy apple. To that end, she had made her way down to the store, telling Pasal she would be back soon. And it hadn't taken her long at all.
However, she had ground to a standstill, her hand still reaching for her keys when she saw the figure in her doorway. Immediately she had thought about the gun she carried with her for protection, hidden beneath her light jacket. Yet after a moment she recognized the red spikey hair and although the fear didn't leave her all at once, she had called out to him.

Axel paused and turn, finding Anna behind him. She had a worrying expression on her face. As if she thought he would lunge out and rip her jugular out with his teeth. He was used to seeing that expression from other people, but not from Anna. Granted, he was dressed in all black and an intimidating figure on anyone's front porch as the sun went down. Still, he pushed away the way that made him feel and focused on her. Shadows under her eyes, skinnier than the last time he saw her, and her braids were slightly frazzled. She hadn't been getting enough rest, but who had?
Axel himself could barely will a candle to light at the moment with how much he had fought the demons back. He broke his rules and used his fires to burn his enemies to cinder. He had only lost one person - the daughter of one of his staff. A young girl who had snuck out of his bar to meet her boyfriend. When they were surrounded by demons, he had ditched her and left her to fend for herself. Axel hadn't been fast enough. If anything, that poor girl was just one of the many faces to cross Anna's table.
"Hey, are you okay? You look like you're going to pass out."

Anna didn't answer when Axel spoke but seemed to be teetering ever so slightly on her feet. For a moment she merely stared at him, swaying backward and forward as if she were on a ship at sea instead of standing on solid ground. Her eyes never wavered from his own green gaze.
Suddenly her bag of groceries hit the ground as she flung herself forward, somehow managing not to step on the oranges and canned goods that came rolling out of the burst bag. A moment later and her arms were wrapped tightly around Axel's chest, her face buried into the fabric of his black jacket. She didn't say anything even then but merely held herself closer to him, listening to the sound of his heart and so grateful to know that it was still beating when so many other's had been silenced for good.

He gave a soft grunt when he found himself with an armful of human. Though, he expected as much from Anna. She was a hugger after all. He wrapped his arms around her, pressing his nose against the top of her head and gripping her back just as tightly. He let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding. Having her there was only proof that she had survived. And the blood thirsty kin of his that had managed to crawl their way to the surface hadn't tainted her opinion of him in the slightest.
He took a slow deep breath. When he was certain she wasn't going to disappear, he looked down at her. Anna really was there. The thought made his heart clench tight. He was struck by an overwhelming desire to kiss her. He gave into the desire by kissing her forehead, letting his lips linger to her soft skin. All of his precious humans were alive. But Anna had been the one he had worried for the most. The thought of anything happening to her made everything he went through seem... paltry at best. Minus the death of the young girl but if that had been Anna... He would have burned the city down.
"I'm so glad you're safe."

When Anna felt Axel put his own arms around her, when she felt the gentle touch of his kiss on her forehead, she felt for a moment as if her heart might simply burst. She had forced herself to keep moving forward after all Hell had literally broken loose, had made a promise to herself to not be selfish, that she would put helping others before what she wanted. Yet even after all that she couldn't push aside the fear she had harbored for the man she loved. To not know if he was safe or hurt, alive or dead....
She had thought she knew what it was to care for others, to want to put their own well-being before anyone else's, including her own. But now those feelings seemed pale in the wake of what she felt for the Fire Demon holding her so tightly in his arms.
After a moment, she took a small step back from Axel and managed a small smile even as she brushed a few small tears off her cheek.
"I'm sorry. I wanted so badly to find you. I wanted to make sure you were ok and let you know I was ok too..."

"Anna... It's okay. It's okay, sweetheart."
He felt a tightness in his chest. When she moved to step back, he barely restrained the need to hold her closer. He wondered if he was any in any better state. He couldn't imagine that he was. He had been absolutely frightened over what had become of her. Knowing that she was alive and well was a relief he didn't know he needed off his shoulders. He gave a strained laugh and picked up the groceries she had dropped in her hurry to get to him.
"Can I help you get these inside?" he asked.
He lifted the bags in his hands. He still wasn't entirely certain of his permissions in her home even if they were dating.

She gave a small nod of her head, pushing away the last of the tears that had fallen down her cheeks as Axel had held her.
"Yeah, yeah of course."
With that said, she quickly knelt down and managed to cram the groceries that had fallen out back into the broken bag, holding it by the bottom so that they didn't fall out once more. Still looking at Axel with eyes filled with relief at finding him whole and unhurt, she unlocked her apartment door and pushed it open. Immediately she made her way to the small table in the kitchen and put the groceries down on it without really paying much attention.
She turned around and walked straight back to Axel, grabbed the bags from his hands and put them down on the floor. Then, without pausing, she took his face into her hands and kissed him. It was a harder and more passionate kiss than those they normally shared and somehow it seemed to convey just how truly worried, how scared she had been that something bad had happened to him. And how much she truly did love him.

Naturally, Axel helped her pick up her things and was all but marched inside her apartment. She took them from him the moment the door was closed. He half thought she would start to put things away, start up conversation but no. She had reached up and pulled him in for a firm kiss. His natural instincts purred at the aggressively bold move and thoroughly approved of it. His own hands moved up, pulling her close to him and kissing her back, responding in kind. The fear that he could have lost her, the fact he hadn't been around her in a very long time and his own feelings for her clouded his judgement as he moved forward, pushing her back up against the wall. It wasn't until he felt his hand against the solid surface did he realize his own actions.
"I..." he swallowed.
Should he apologize? He didn't think she was ready for any sudden movements. They didn't want to do anything they regret, right? But he was a demon. His self control was weak enough as it was. Especially since he had been relying on that part of himself for the better part of a few months.

Anna hadn't been completely sure how Axel would respond to her suddenly kissing him like this, but rather then seeming taken aback or trying to stop it, he pushed back into her with his own fire. When his hands pulled her closer, when he pushed her up against the wall, she felt her awareness of her surroundings disappear for a moment. It had been so long since she had felt anything like this...
Her mind didn't seem to fully register just what had happened until Axel pulled away slightly. For a moment she merely blinked and stared up into those intense green eyes. Her head seemed to have been filled with some bright, burning gas and floated away to some other place where time was only a concept and reality could be whatever she wanted. As she looked up at the Fire Demon standing so close to her, she gave her head the smallest of shakes. It was only then that she realized how warm her whole face was and how fast she was breathing.
After managing to slow the rise and fall of her chest, she gave a small laugh and smiled a sheepish smile. However, something lurked under the shyness... It was a spark of mischief.
"Wow. Guess I should surprise you with kisses more often."
