Yang bit her lip. Now wasn't the time for Axel to get sassy. But Cruella pretty much confirmed that Disparion could pull off something like this, and the more Yang thought about it, the more it made sense. Pitch hadn't started acting weird until he escaped from Disparion after the Apocalypse. Or maybe Disparion had planned on letting him go and just letting him wreck havoc. Who knew? Either way, it looked like Yang had found the person responsible for Pitch's sudden return to villany. But now there was a more important question to ask. "Is there a way to reverse it once its started?" she asked. "Say, a way to get your data back after your phone was wiped clean?" She knew phones didn't work like that, but hopefully that wouldn't be the case with Pitch.

"And is that just going to effect demons in contact with Disparion or all demons?"
That was not a good thing. Axel was a demon for one. What if he went bonkers? The last thing he would want to do is hurt someone. Not his workers, not his friends, not even an innocent bystander. He had gone soft after leaving Cruella but for the better in his opinion. He actually had people who would worry if something happened to him for one. But this was an important question to ask. There were plenty of demons in town living a normal everyday life like him. If they all turned on the other races then it would not help the stereotype that demons were just monsters.

"I suppose a very small education is in order," Cruella muttered, pinching the bridge of her nose. Her blood-red fingernails left small dents in the spin when she lowered her hand and waved it nonchalantly. "Think of demons as a sort of ranking or social class. Those closest to Disparion will have the higher abilities. Those who do not, well," she snorted through her nose, "they're better living off crusts of bread or making him mad by fitting in among humans. It's how you get..." her laughter couldn't be contained, "ridiculous hybrids. Not counting that, ha, patchwork quilt of a cop Shadow Griffiths who should be dead." After letting out another laugh, she cleared her throat. "But I digress. Your question of reversing the process is shockingly easy. The person who planted the initial mind control in the first place can," she snapped her fingers, "snap it away. No other way around it."

Axel had a good point. Could something like this be done to him if a demon wanted to? That was a scary thought. Yang hadn't seen him in action, but Adeline had said he knew how to fight. And if there was one thing she knew about demons, it was that they fought ferociously. The social ranking of demons made sense, although Cruella's comment about Shadow made her frown. How was it that the guy had wound up seeming intimidating by Bellerouge citizens, and then thought of as an abomination by demons and everyone else? He just couldn't win. Cruella's solution was simple, although there was one problem. "And if the person who planted it is, say, not exactly alive anymore?" Yang prompted. If Disparion was truly gone, and he was the one who was responsible for what was going on with Pitch, then what could they do?

Axel bit back a remark about Cruella knowing what living off crust was like. She had eked out a living, but he remembered a time when she needed his firepower to protect the bar from those more powerful. She and her girls weren't always the top of the food chain. Axel had been feared in his own right back then. She had appealed to his ego and taste for violence.
"Ouiji board?" He recommended, only half serious.
He highly doubted things would be that simple. If it was, they wouldn't be there asking Cruella of all people how to do it.

"Ouija boards used to speaking when demon ghosts is a death wish." Cruella said simply. Axel's idea was half baked. He wasn't here to go against her. At least, not exactly. The blond was the one asking the questions though. Whatever her angle was, it appeared to be helping this demon. However, when someone was this far gone, this was going to be a lost cause. She looked over her shoulder to a few clubgoers chatting amongst themselves. They were playing an impromptu gambling game of some kind, but Cruella wasn't interested. "Anyways, if the person isn't alive, the demonic hold starts taking over. Without a master, the demon seed has no one to stop it. It will continue to spread like a poison until," and with one fell pinch, she snuffed out a candle sitting on the table.
"However," she said, "I suppose like every parasite, it can be forced out. Unfortunately, that also results in possible death."

An ouiji board? Yang wondered if something like that would even work. Cruella was fast to dismiss that idea though, and she did have a point. Trying to summon the Devil himself through an ouiji board would end up turning into one of those possession horror movies that Hollywood seemed to love making these days. It seemed like the situation was almost hopeless, until Cruella suggested an alternative method, although it was just as risky. If whatever had infected Pitch was like a parasite, like a tapeworm or something, then it could be possible to remove it. Yang was quick to jump on that possibility. "How do we do that?" Yang asked. "Can we, like, literally take it out? Like surgery or something?"

Axel made a face at the mention of parasites. He didn't want to imagine some sort of evil creature inside of someone controlling their moves or making them go bonkers. He wasn't exactly any help here unless the answer was to burn the little creature out of Black. That would probably be too easy. Though, how sure was he that Cruella was even telling the truth. It wasn't like she'd get anything out of being honest except for a dead cop.

"The answer is yes and no," Cruella answered. She tapped her cigarette holder against the table, the same way a nervous woman waiting for someone would tap a fork when waiting for her beau to come back from the bathroom. "Think of this particular parasite as a picky eater. I should know, I'm one myself." After cackling at her own awful joke, she continued, "It's feeding on something within the demon, and won't stop until it's taking every last bite. To remove the little curse monster, you simply have to offer it a greater quantity of what it craves. Then when it reveals its ugly head from wherever you decide to extract it from, you pull it out. Then you can do whatever it is you goody two shoers do with them."

"Offer what it craves..." Yang repeated the words, trying to think through them. Cruella didn't seem too suspicious about her questions so far, although she obviously saw that they had noble intentions with whatever they chose to do with this information, and she didn't seem to mind. At least, for now. Cruella may not have cared that they were "goody two shoers" as she put it, but finding out that Yang was a cop probably wouldn't fly over so well with her. "Is there a way to figure out what this thing is craving?" she asked. "We don't exactly have time for trial and error." Pitch was on a ticking time clock right now. The longer it took to get this parasite out of him, the more his Promise Scar was going to keep draining the life out of him. The parasite was probably feeding on something only demons had, but that could be a number of things. Their magic power, their unique life energy, the darkness in them. Was there a way to narrow down the possibilities?

This began to sound more and more like an impossible task. How did they get inside the head of some parasite to figure out what it wanted? It was no less than a bug. A bug that was slowly contributing to the death of another demon. A darker part of Axel whispered that it was good. One less demon for him to worry about. One less demon in his territory to have to fight. But he knew deep down that he couldn't just let the guy die. This was serious. Especially if they were on a time crunch like Yang said, though admitting that to Cruella, might not have been the best idea.
"Come on Cruella, stop yanking us around and tell us everything you know. The sooner you do, the sooner you and I can part ways."

"I AM telling you everything that I know!" A dangerous glint flashed across Cruella's eyes. Axel was wanting her to hurry up, so he could get out of dodge. Probably a smart move. A few growls and hisses echoed in the darkness behind her. The pack had sensed their alpha was possibly in distress. The keep them from going onto the lunge, she exhaled. A tendril, disguised as cigarette smoke, wafted through the room. The growls stopped and were replaced with submissive whines. After breathing again, this time to soothe her nerves, Cruella continued. "I suggest studying where exactly this parasite IS on your demon and go from there. Oh, and one more thing." She leaned forward. "I want that parasite. Put it in a jelly jar if you have to, but that is the price I ask. The parasite you extract for my help. No other strings attached."

Things were getting tense. Yang needed to wrap this up before Axel and Cruella came to blows. She was starting to think that maybe this was enough for now, and the rest could be figured out on their own. They already knew a lot more than when they'd first come in. However, Cruella wanted payment for her information, and that was the parasite itself once they figured out how to get it out of Pitch. That caught Yang off-guard. "You want...what?" she stuttered, blanking out on what else to say. A parasite like that in the hands of someone like Cruella, who knew what she might do with it.

Axel would sooner burn the parasite to a crisp than hand it over to Cruella. She only did things if it benefit her. He couldn't think of anything more beneficial to her than to have that parasite to lord over demons. Threaten them with it. It would give her more power than the hold hag deserved. But that was out of his hands. It wasn't his decision to make. The police department would be the ones to decide how to handle that matter.
"You can put it on your mantle. For posterity." Axel replied snidely.

Of course, there was going to be some hesitation when it came to her wanting the parasite. Keeping it here where it could be stolen would be suicide. Security may have tightened, but she was not going to have a parasite that could hurt either herself or her pack simply sitting out like Axel was saying. No, her plan was to sell it to the highest bidder this side of Garcon Perdu. "Oh, don't worry, darlings. I'll be sure it's properly disposed of. The police can't handle ALL demon crimes now, can they?" She chuckled. "It'll be a favor for those Other Units cops. One less crime to worry about."
