It was a nice day and Jack had the day off from all his jobs. And so, what better way could he spend it than taking his little girl to the park? Sophie had been ecstatic when her father had announced their trip, chattering of all she planned on doing as he packed away a little lunch and some snacks in the diaper bag along with a change of clothes should any accidents happen. Once it was all packed away and Sophie dressed and ready to go, the two left their apartment hand in hand.
It was a two block stroll to the nearest bus stop, for which Jack kept a watchful eye out of his surroundings. The news had been giving rave news about missing and dead children, and it left him worried and somewhat paranoid. But he did his best to keep his concerns from being obvious, not wanting his little girl scared of the very shadows themselves. Then again, there are things that literally lurk there. he thought breifly, his hand squeezing a little tighter to the toddler's hand.
"Daddy! Daddy! The bus!" Sophie yelled out happily, tugging on his hand as she swung their connected arms about. Sure enough, the city bus was approaching their stop. He tended to take the bus whenever he took Sophie anywhere rather than flying, out of worry about her squirming out of his hold or a neighbor reporting him to social services about reckless endangerment. It happened once when she was still just a baby and he was flying to the hospital because she had a high fever.
So the bus it was. Unless it was an emergency.
"All aboard." he told her with a grin, helping her up the bus steps before paying the fare. Sophie managed to wiggle out of his grip and took off to the back of the bus, hopping onto an available seat. The white-haired teen cursed under his breath and went after her, struggling a little to maneuver on the now moving bus with a diaper bag slung on his arm. "Sophie, you're supposed to hold me hand." he said, scolding her as he sat down next to her. The little girl pouted at the scolding, looking down at her shoes and giving a tiny shrug.
With a sigh, Jack leaned and and gave his daughter a kiss onto of her head. "Hey now, I'm not mad sweetie." he told her, running a hand through her golden locks. She got those from her mother. "Daddy just wants to make sure you're safe. Ok?" Sophie gave a tiny nod before cuddling against his side as a means of a silent apology. She never did like saying it out loud. She got that from him.
When the bus made way to the park, Jack lifted his baby girl up so she could tug on the string, her smile returned nice and wide as she giggled in the process. Shortly after, the two got off and made their way down the path in the park's entry way with Sophie tugging hard on her father's hand as she tried to get him to hurry to the playground. "Slow down Goober." he said laughing, shaking his head in amusement while she huffed from impatience. Once the playground came into view, he allowed her to release his hand and she made a dash for the slide. "The little one Sophie!" he called out after her, sharp blue eyes watching as she had at first attempted to make her way to the big one. But she was too little to do that one on her own just yet, needing him to hold on her hand off on the side or wait for her at the bottom to make sure she didn't go flying int he unfun way.
The three-year old changed direction at her Daddy's words, heading towards the smaller slide that was meant for children her age. There were a few other kids there and she got in line to take her turn. With a smile, Jack made his way to the closest bench and watched her, sharp eyes only looking away now and again to survey their surroundings. One could never be too careful.
