"Well.....hmmm."
Ralph had to pause for a moment when Namine asked what he did outside of his investigative work and think on it. What did he do? Most of the time he was completely focused on the few cases he had and didn't allow his attention to shift to hardly anything else until the case was closed, so hobbies didn't often take center stage in his life. However, after several moments of thinking, a frown on his face, the Giant finally snapped his fingers.
"I workout. And.....I know this might sound kinda silly but.....I like to grow things."
He gave a somewhat sheepish smile and rubbed the back of his head, realizing just how silly it really did sound now that he had said it out loud to this young woman. A Giant who liked to garden? It was like the start to a bad joke, but it was the truth. Unlike most people, plants didn't annoy Ralph at all and there was something pleasing about seeing something so small and unremarkable as a seed grown into a large, thriving plant.

After he told her his hobbies, Namine realized she didn’t have many of her own. She was always told to make work fun, not to turn fun into work. Her hobby was her work. Perhaps it was time to get some new hobbies. How could she not be inspired to try new things when she had met so many people who were active in so many different things? Omar was a musician. Ralph liked to grow things. Sunshine liked baking. There were so many different things and new doors opening for her to branch out too.
“W-What do you grow?” Namine asked with a bright smile.
She didn’t know if Ralph was the type to be self-sufficient and grew his own vegetables or if he was the type to grow flowers. The notion of Ralph with a bonsai plant was actually quite adorable.

"Tomatoes mostly. I've also got some green beans and cucumbers going this year. Oh, and a few herbs on the side to help keep the bugs away."
His mind briefly went back to his apartment and workspace where he kept the plants. He didn't have any land he owned or even a ground-level building, but his apartment did have a balcony with enough space to grown several containers of plants.
"And what about you? What kind of art do you do?"

"T-That's really cool!" Namine said, sincerity in every word she spoke.
It seemed he was pretty self reliant. He grew his own food, worked on his own, it seemed lonely. But she smiled up at him, absolutely awe-stricken that he grew his own things. When he asked about what sort of work she did, she paused, trying to think of which styles she worked the most on. She dabbled in everything but her two favorites where plain.
"O-Oh, um I do some paintings and sketches." Namine said. "I-I work with the BPD."

Ralph had been listening with a small smile on his face, nodding his head slightly as Namine spoke. However, when she stated that she worked for the BPD the smile fell away and his expression became much more difficult to read.
"So you work for Bellerouge's finest."
His tone was the same as his face, impossible to read in that moment. The change in his attitude was so sudden that it was almost like a sunny day being completely blocked out by fog that rolled in from nowhere.

Namine flinched when his tone changed. Her baby blues went wide as she stared up at him. She knew some people really didn't like the police, but for cases like hers they did a lot more good than they did harm. She didn't think Ralph was the type to take his distaste for the BPD out on her but sometimes you never could tell. It wouldn't be the first time someone yelled at her for her job choices. She felt so much smaller and it had nothing to do with their height differences at that point.
"Y-Yes," she squeaked out.

"Well you don't have to look like I'm gonna eat you or something."
Ralph had seen the widening of Namine's blue eyes and tried to joke about it, but his overall appearance was still difficult to read and the joke didn't really have the tone behind it to make it funny.
"It just surprised me. I used to work at the BPD a long time ago myself and.....well, lets just say I didn't leave on the best of terms."
He gave a half-smile, but behind his back his fists tightened by the slightest degree.

Namine tried to smile back. She didn't think it felt to convincing. He still didn't look too happy about who she decided to work for. Especially since apparently he was an ex-cop. She didn't think it would do either of them any good if she tried to argue with his reasoning. He had his reasons for hating cops. She had her reasons for liking them.
"I-I just h-help with criminal sketches."
Put a face to the bad guy from witnesses.

Ralph nodded his head, doing his best to keep his displeasure off of his face and his posture loose. Namine seemed almost like a sparrow, small and always on watch, ready to fly away there was even the slightest hint of trouble or danger. He couldn't blame the young woman for her nature but it made it somewhat hard to talk at leisure without startling her.
"So, Shadow and Sunshine still working together? They were just partnering up when I left. Still talk to them on occasion."

"Oh, y-yes!" Namine confirmed. "I met Sunshine y-yesterday."
She smiled and nodded. She hadn't directly worked with the duo, but she did just meet Sunshine on accident just the other day. They talked about the art the two were involved in and Sunshine's many hobbies. The long haired blonde seemed nice, if a little worried about her partner. Apparently, something was bothering Shadow which then had Sunshine in a tizzy of sorts. Namine didn't know exact details so naturally, she was worried about the other officer. She smoothed hand through her hair and shyly looked up at Ralph.
"H-How did you meet them?"

"Well, Shadow I've known for a couple of years now. Used to work with him a lot when I was still at the BPD and all but I really only ran into Sunshine on my last day."
His eyes grew distant for a moment as he recalled a time not so long ago and how he had come to meet Sunshine. His face broke into a small grin and he gave brief chuckle of amusement before his focus returned to Namine.
"She was trying to get a drink of water from a cooler outside my office. Didn't even realize it was the BPD's store of holy water until I pointed it out to her."
He gave another small laugh as he remembered the look of embarrassment that had passed over the young woman's face.

"Oops," she giggled.
Namine tried to hide her smile behind her hand and bit her lip to keep from laughing. It may have been something Sunshine would do. She just hoped it wouldn't have had any negative effects on the long haired officer. Namine wouldn't know. She didn't particularly know the officers in the force well. She was more often than not too afraid to talk to them aside from being told to draw x or y. She would scurry away, do her work and silently drop off all of her work to the officer. She had only briefly met Sunshine the other day, but it was a little funny to think that Sunshine tried to drink the holy water.
"D-Do you l-like doing your own investigations?" Namine asked.

Ralph's smile fell slightly when Namine asked if he enjoyed doing his own investigations. The change in his expression wasn't one of anger but rather one of slight concern.
"Yeah, I do. Problem is lately I've been having a hard time finding people who need the services of a private investigator. That's actually why I came out with these bad boys today."
He jerked his head down towards the massive arm that was still holding his business flyers. He had really only come to the market to try and put the papers up in hopes of catching a few new clients. He wasn't in any financial difficulties just then, but he knew that it wouldn't take much in this economy to put him over that fine line.

Namine frowned when Ralph did. There were so many people who needed help. With the police stretched as thin as they were, a few people would slip through the cracks from time to time. It was just an unfortunate truth. They tried not to let it happen but the case to officer ratio was grossly disproportionate. There were more cases than office. The officers worked so hard to do what they do but it was impossible to keep up unless they were a species that never slept. She wanted to help everyone but was it against her contract to send them to the investigator than the police? Seeing people upset always crushed the little blonde. She knew some of the pain those people went through.
"Y-You could always try c-cold cases?" Namine suggested. "T-The police don't a-always have time to look u-unless it b-becomes serial. T-Those families need closure too."

Ralph was just in the process of putting up yet another poster on a telephone pole close by when he paused in the act and looked back at the young woman. Cold cases? He very much doubted that the director of the BPD would allow him to handle any case they had worked on, even if said case hadn't been solved. After all, the head of the police department would most likely chew out anyone who handed off old cases to him and that was a best case scenario. Worst case? They would get fired.
However, before he could kindly turn down Namine's suggestion, he realized that if the victims of the crime came to him on their own, then there was nothing the BPD could do. He ran his own private investigator business now and if they decided to use his services over those of the BPD....
"Hmmmm, maybe. Might be worth a try at the least."
He was already thinking about the area around the BPD station and all the places he could put up his flyers. Even if just a few people saw the posters, it could mean more customers for him.
