"I wouldn't call it funny so much as wondrous and amazing" Riku said with a shrug. He had studied the cause and mixing of the magics and religions that had caused his religion and magic specialty and ranged fair to proficient in most if not all of them. He also found it fascinating how the powers had merged to create what he practiced. Something new and exciting. "You could say the mixing of the cultures is a magic all it's own"

Elsa said nothing for a while. She simply set her tea aside, staring at the young recruit talk about the blending of cultures. He appeared so lively, whoever his partner was would be lucky to have him. A trace of a smile appeared o her lips. In a way, having different worlds meet meant so many discoveries. How else would people have known the stories told around the cradle at night would come true? "Yeah, I...supposed it is."

He nodded and looked around. "You have a lot of books on voodoo" He noticed, a little surprised by that fact. "If you want I can show you the basics ,such as the proper way to use a voodoo doll. It's supposed to be used as a protection talisman, not used for harm. But shadow voodoo has made these handy little devices dark" He said, aware she probably knew that already. But he couldn't help it. A part of him wanted to impress her somehow.

Elsa held up a hand. "I don;t need to partake in a ritual, but...thank you for the offer." Her icepowers were a gamble to any sort of mage works, and this included the voodoo arts. She only had studied voodoo to get an understanding of magics, especially in Louisiana where it was almost second nature. She cringed at the memory of voodoo dolls. They were commonly found at crime scenes - some of them were genuine, others were knockoffs bought on Magnolia Street - and thinking about the effects of shadow voodoo made her skin crawl.

"Alright, though I could perform the ritual for you. A good luck ritual perhaps? Though from what I've heard you hardly need it but it's the least I can offer you" He supposed she had enough on her plate magic wise with her ice magic and thus didn't need to have any other sort of magic to deal with or think about. But He could still perform a small ritual for her, to show he was grateful there was a lawyer who had the police's backs at all. "I can also give you a protection charm-they are no trouble to make, believe me"

"No, no, it's okay." Elsa shook her hands worriedly. Voodoo magic plus her own magic was a huge risk. She had never had any rituals be done while her own effects were in the air. The last thing she waned was for a well-meaning magician like Riku to get hurt. But, she couldn't deny him the generosity he was offering up. They had just met, and already he was showing signs of gratitude. "I think a protection charm would be best. I could use one."

"Okay" He shrugged but supposed he understood. Magic mixing could be really bad. He smiled and pulled out a small metal amulet with markings on it out of his pocket and held it out to her. "Just wear this on a chain or leather strap around your neck under your clothes. It's not the most powerful one in the world, but it will keep you safe when you need it"

Elsa palmed the medallion Riku gave her. She could not recognize any of the carvings within the metal frame, but that didn't matter. What did matter was the beauty of the artifact, From a distance, it didn't look anything like it was associated with voodoo. But, when she looked closer, the carvings had small chips within; handiwork that was often associated with voodooism. "Thank you." Power was the least of her worries. While Riku may have been weary, her ice abilities would make up for whatever kinks were needed.

He smiled. "Least I could do" He debated asking if she wanted to grab a coffee with him sometime, or maybe some dinner, but decided that she might think he had ulterior motives so left that question for another time when he knew her better. Because he hoped he could get to know her better over time. And hopefully not because he had to ask for her services in the near future. "Tell me, what got you interested in the voodoo and magic business?"

"It really started out as a bunch of questions. I didn't know how I got my powers, so I turned to research. Voodoo was the only theory I had to go off of, since other rituals made no sense." The answer was, admittedly, blunt, but it was the truth. Elsa had been curious how she had been gifted. She had no Seelie blood in her family history, and unlike families who received powers from science, there was no evidence to prove that. The only answer she had come up with was a voodoo charm, a charm that hit the generation after the ones who asked for a gift.

He nodded thoughtfully. He supposed that made the most sense, and was the best answer she could have said. Simply looking for knowledge, not power was one of the better reasons to find out about voodoo in his opinion. He had learned it because it had been inherited and all he knew. It had just been a matter of course to learn. Riku rubbed his hands, feeling much warmer now than when he walked into the room. "Thank you for your hospitality despite me being an unexpected guest" he said.

Elsa nodded wordlessly. "I hardly ever turn away uninvited guests. The only people not welcome in my home are enemies of the BPD." Or former enemies; the only exception to this rule were her lawyer adversaries, because even then, she would find times to be hospitable to them.

"That makes me feel honored, in a way" He smiled at her. Riku did feel honored that he was welcomed. He knew that she probably didn't turn away anyone unless they were enemies, but he still felt honored he counted as an ally.

Honored? Now this was getting awkward. Elsa tucked a strand of white-blonde hair from her face. "It'd be better if you stopped treating me like I'm some kind of superhero." In a way, the knit group of the BPD were superoeroes, shunned by society for their differences while being rewarded for them at the same time. It was such a unique struggle.

He blushed. "Sorry, sorry! I just...don't know what to say exactly" He shifted on his feet for a few minutes and looked at his feet before looking back to her. "I should...probably go. I have...I have work to do"
