Jane had just moved into her apartment. She grabbed the first set of clubbing clothes she had and went out. Through some research online and some questionable videos she believed she had the city where her father was. It was hard to tell. She hadn't seen the man in ten years. But she was heading out to the nearest bar, dressed in a short mini-skirt and a crop top. She figured it was the proper attire for a bar night. If not, she was going to drink in celebration of coming to a new town, getting settled in and before classes started and buried her in work.

Yang had a free night, so she decided she might as well take a break from work and enjoy herself. She wasn't sure if there was a way to do that without spending some money, but she figured splurging a little was okay. She ran a hand through her hair as she walked down the street. Part of her still kept an eye out for any shady-looking people. The La Llorona killer was still at large, after all. She did end up coming across somebody, but wasn't a killer. Or, so she seemed. It was a girl, maybe a little bit older than Yang was. Her outfit was definitely the clubbing type, but Yang thought it looked cool. "Hey, love the outfit," she complimented.

Jane looked over her shoulder to see a blonde. The girl was younger than she was, pretty with bright eyes, barely looked eighteen though, but who was Jane kidding she was just nineteen. She flashed the girl a smile. The girl might help her out since she seemed like a local. They just had to head to the bar, but not just any bar - the bar that was featuring the Bilge Rats.
"Thanks," she said. "So what has you out so late?"

"Oh, just unwinding from a long hard week of work," Yang replied, stretching her arms out over her head. That was the truth. Looking after kids and trying to run your own murder investigation was pretty draining. She felt like she could use a night off. "What about you? Heading any place in particular?" she asked.

"I know the feeling," Jane laughed.
She had just moved to the city and unpacked. Her apartment was okay. It was smaller than the one she had one city over, but she managed to fit everything and it finally felt cozy enough to call home. She even set up her keyboard so she could play piano. It had taken a week to do it though and she was losing time before classes started back up. Just a few months and she didn't think the police would believe her if she reported herself as a 'missing child' from ten years ago and needed to find her father if she had foster parents in the next town.
"Actually, I was looking for a certain bar. I heard this band was playing and I loved their stuff online." Jane explained, "They're called the Bilge Rats? You wouldn't happen to know where they play, do you? It would really make my week if you do."

Yang immediately looked up at the sound of Omar's band. She didn't see them perform all the time, but she saw them often enough. She preferred to hang out with Omar alone, though. She liked him the most out of everyone in the band. "Sure do," she replied. "They usually play at the Bourbon Graisee. I can take you there, if you want." Yang always felt like the owner of the pub gave her looks whenever she went there. No doubt he was paranoid that she would get her hands on some liquor. But, Yang tried not to drink in areas that people considered the "good neighborhood." Besides, she couldn't afford to get wasted all the time, not when she had kids to look after and her strength to keep up. After all, she wasn't going to win those fights if she had a beer gut.

"Really?" Jane asked, "I'd really appreciate it if you could. I think I've gotten myself turned around. I used to live here but things have changed since then."
Score. This was just what she wanted. Well, the answers but the company wasn't something she would turn down either. She hadn't been lying when she said she had gotten turned around. Not to mention when she was nine she didn't exactly have any reason to go to a bar of all places. Her mother never would have allowed it. Her father might have but only if there was no one in the bar, she stayed in the back and away from the hard drinks.

Yang was pleased to see the girl accept her offer. "No problem. Follow me. I know exactly where it is." She tossed her hair over her shoulder as she started walking down the street. "My name's Yang, by the way. What's yours?"

"Jane." she replied with a smile.
She walked in step with the blonde. She could feel a bubble of nervousness welling up inside of her. One step closer to the Bilge Rats. One step closer to the lead singer. One step closer to seeing if he was really her dad or not. Who would have thought that first night in town she was already this close to finding out the truth after all these years? If she had only known she would have come sooner. But it's hard to track down a man you only have online videos of. No address, no location, nothing but a name.

"Jane...I like it," Yang said with a smile. The name was short, sweet, and to the point, much like hers. "Funny you should mention the Bilge Rats though," she said as she laced her hands behind her head. "I've known the lead singer for a few years now. He's a pretty neat guy."

"Yeah? So what's he like?" Jane asked.
To her credit, she managed to stay calm and casual but inside she was a flutter of nerves. Maybe this would help tell her whether or not the singer was who she thought he was. It seemed Jane was particularly lucky to have met Yang tonight. It was really helping things turn out for the better for the older woman.

Jane seemed curious about Omar, so Yang continued. "He's a little rough and tough. I guess most heavy metal guys, and trolls, are. But he's nice once you get to know him and stuff. We hang out a lot." Personally, Yang felt like Omar was one of the few people in this city that she could truly trust. She knew he would always have her back, and be down for pretty much anything.

"Sounds like a pretty chill guy," Jane commented.
Could be... But it could also be any other troll roving the streets at night. She herself preferred nighttime too, but she had been forced to grow accustomed to working in the day. Hard to do whens he had human foster parents who treated her like she was human instead of half troll. They didn't want to acknowledge the 'Other' part of her.
"Think we can get lucky and meet him tonight?" she asked, feigning fangirl-ish excitement.

Yang grinned. "I think someone's got a celebrity crush," she teased in a sing-song voice. Although technically, Omar wasn't one of those big-name celebrities that went on country-wide tours and stuff. But he was famous enough to live off his music, so that had to count for something. "Don't worry, I can totally get you backstage to meet him and stuff. Me and Omar are, like, tight." She crossed her middle finger over her pointer one as emphasis.

Jane had to fight the urge to shudder at the notion. A crush? On the person she believed to be her father? Yikes! No. But if that's the part she had to play. Though this would make for an interesting story later.
"Looks like you caught me!" she laughed. "If you do that for me I'd owe you big time! Anything I can do to repay you, just name it!"
