"Y-Yeah!" she agreed.
Namine nodded. There was plenty of time she supposed. They would be in season for a little while longer. At least it wasn't like the cherry blossom season where they only bloomed for two weeks of the year otherwise she would have been extremely disappointed. Maybe the magnolias would be just what she needed for her next artwork. She would sell it at a local studio maybe. She never tended to keep her own work because she thought them flawed.
"T-There's a bunch at the p-park, right?" she asked.

"As a matter of fact..." Elsa pulled out her phone, the silver case glittering in her hands, and began swiping through it. She had gone to Raoul Park the other day just to get a look at the summertime trees. Yes, she had a magnolia tree in her own home, but to see them with actual people running around and not a bench carved from ice that melted in Louisiana's humid climate...it was a sight. She beamed at the picture she was looking for, of the petals falling like peppermint candies in the air near a tree so overtaken with magnolias. "Here's a picture of one in the park." She stood and walked over to Namine, showing her the shot.

Namine leaned in, a small smile on her lips, eyes brightening over the picture of the flowers. Yes, she was certainly going to have to go when she had free time and draw. She could already feel the inspiration she could take from the image to make something nice. She always could use something she could sell in a gallery for when her police assistance was few and far between.
"T-Thank you," she told Elsa, "T-They're really pretty."

"Aren't they beautiful?" Elsa asked in agreement. She set the phone away. It wasn't until looks my back that she noticed the spine of the sketchbook. "Are you an artist?"

"W-What?"
Namine looked down at her sketch book and then realized what Elsa was talking about. She blushed, feeling a warm heat creep up along her skin. Drawing was all she was good for it seemed. Couldn't converse with people, couldn't even look them in the eyes, had a hard time doing anything that wasn't for the benefit of the police. She toyed with her pencil again as her nervous habit picked back up.
"I-I sketch," she explained, "I-It's what I do for the BPD."

"Oh, you help them, too?" At least there was something else they had in common. The only difference was Namine spent more time with the officers. Elsa was lucky to maybe only share one or two sentences, and that was if they did something horribly horribly wrong, such as killer someone innocent. She thought about how to word what she did without getting into territory that would have her fired,
"I defend several members of the BPD if they're in trouble with the law. The Others Unit, really. As if police defense wasn't tricky enough."

"S-Sketch artist," she said with a small smile.
She knew the officers were far from faultless. Occasionally, things got bad, to the point where officers were rash or so desperate for answers. More often than not they got violent in the interrogation room, rough with arrests or a little too eager to shoot a target rather than try to catch them first. Namine tended to make herself scarce during those moments, unable to be around large bouts of violence for long due to her past. She liked the officers well enough, but it was more of an obligation rather than her actually liking them.
"T-That's really nice of you," Namine said.

Elsa returned Namine's timid smile with a reassuring one. The life of a detective must have been exhausting. There were so many clues and unanswered questions. The famous grouping of W questions as they pored over everything from a speck of blood to someone's pen being dropped at a crime scene. Putting a face to a crime was probably even tougher, but to have a sketch artist around made the job so much easier. With an artist at least they had a vague idea of who it was they were chasing when the clue trail ran dry. "Well, they'd never be able to catch criminals without you. I just," she sighed, "play a mental game of chess. But really," she snapped her fingers, creating a very fast-looking snowflake, "I can do much more."

Namine begged to differ on the fact that the she helped catch the criminals. She just drew what the victims and officers described to her, put a face to those descriptions. Sometimes it was harder than others especially when people used vague descriptors like tall or big nosed. But it was her job, she was good enough at it, that it must have provided some assistance, even if she had her doubts. But all of that aside, her eyes went wide in surprise as Elsa made a snowflake, right before her very eyes. Someone else was gifted too.
"O-Oh, wow," Namine breathed as she watched the icy creation in absolute awe.

Elsa'sxearnest expression lit a bit at Namine's reaction. At this point, she was used to making ice fireworks out of boredom. "Unfortunately, the ooh ahh is the most I can do in public, especially during a trial. Literally giving people cold feet is...well, it gives me an unfair advantage."

She suddenly ducked her head, embarrassed over her own open gawking over Elsa's powers. She just didn't know many gifted humans who actually liked showing off their powers. Namine herself considered hers more like a curse than a blessing and never used it under any circumstance. She didn't feel like she had the right to start meddling with people's memories, even if she could do it. At least not without permission. Occasionally, it would help victims either remember or forget details. More often than not she made people forget so they could move past the pain of whatever hurt them.
"I-It must be nice with the hot weather," she added, trying to find a silver lining to Elsa's sudden discouragement.

The optimism on Namine's voice made Elsa's smile get s touch wider. This artist was trying to make her feel better, yes, but the humidity in Louisiana could be ruthless. An ice house helped, as did hearthound companionship. "True," she answered, "my roommate Jenna says our house is the most sought after because of the cold." Good luck buying the Crispin estate, though

Namine tried to hide her smile behind her hand. A soft giggle escaped her lips. It was quite funny to imagine that their home was such a desired piece of property simply because of the cold it brought with it. Namine's tiny little apartment would have on and off again AC, more often than not, it wasn't working. It wasn't like she made much as an artist, even one for the police.
"I-I'll take your word for it," she said.

"Oh, dear, I forgot what time it was," Elsa muttered at her phone buzzed. She had set alarms for every appointment she had to make it to. The alarm for her court summoning to defend a cop in a trial was about to get underway. All she could do now was silently pray the lawyer she was going up against didn't do his homework on vampire activity. She collected her files and her papers, leaving a tip for Thomas and smiling at Namine with a small, friendly wave. "Very lovely meeting you. I'm so sorry I have to rush off." Her platinum blonde braid snapped out behind her before the door closed. ((end thread))
