"U-Um, o-okay?"
It sounded more like a question, mostly because Shadow wanted to spend more time around her. That and he said this was something he did with Sunshine. What if Sunshine was there? Then Namine being there would just be weird, wouldn't it? It was a special thing for the partners. She reached over to pick up her sketchpad, once again holding it as if to protect herself.

Once again, the sketch pad shield had gone up. That and her answer to his invite sounded much more like a question. Shadow was unsure what to say next. Sunshine would be friendly to anyone who walked up that didn't appear intimidating. Also, she and Namine both liked art. Well, he couldn't force her. "Okay." He headed to the doors, stopping to look back. "You know, you and Sunshine would get along. She likes drawing, too."

"I know," she said softly. "We've m-met."
Once. When Namine was down by the riverfront, just walking and trying to find a new place to inspire her to draw. It had been more of an accidental run in than anything. Sunshine had left because she had been worried about Shadow. He hadn't been acting like himself and Sunshine had been worried. It begged the question how close the two partners were.
"I-I just don't want to i-intrude if it's s-something you and Sunshine do..."

"Oh." Well, that was pretty self explanatory. Sunshine was the friendlier of the two, and considering so many people came in and out of Nevermore during her shift, she and Namine were certain to cross paths eventually. But that made the initial trust of Namine raise. Any friend of Sunshine;s, by default, was someone he could consider a friend. Even Chat, no matter how "perfect" he was and continued to put the moves on Sunshine who showed no sign of returning his affections, fell into that category. "You wouldn't be intruding if you came with us. You're part of the department. Besides, she needs more people to talk to apart from the little group here," he gestured to the cluster of desks.

"As long a-as you're sure you d-don't mind," Namine said.
She took a sip of her tea. It felt a little better after she had some caffeine in her, especially now that the water wasn't as hot as when it came out. Maybe after breakfast, she could go back, get some rest before she was called back in again for another round of long sketches and late nights. Or rather, before she started digging through Shadow's head and trying to help him with his lost memories. She smiled a little at Shadow. Perhaps she had just assumed that he was a little more intimidating than he really was. Granted she was no thug or criminal so that might have been a contributing factor.

Shadow was not quite sure how to word it. Sunshinr would be much friendlier than he was. But, very uncharacteristically, he had held a conversation with her that had lasted way more than just brief, quiet sentences. The first time he had a conversation like that...
"Shadow, what do you think it's like in the world?
He and Maria were at the observing deck, watching the street lights twinkle in the blackness.
"I don't know. I often wonder why I was created. The professor tells me I'm for something important. But what...."
"Whatever makes you comfortable," he answered. "We'lol be down there for a while." Without anything else, he walked to the elevators.

Namine jumped when Shadow just got up and started walking. She hesitated for a moment. Finished the last of her tea and pitched the paper cup. She scurried after him in an attempt to keep up. It was a gut reaction from the little blonde. But she was smiling. She tucked some hair behind her ear. It felt nice to be included. She had mentioned to Sunshine that she felt like the other officers saw her only as a little wallflower. But Shadow had noticed.
"W-Will Sunshine mind?" she asked.

"She likes almost everyone. Minding is the least of her concerns." Shadow pressed the down arrow, watching the painfully slow process of the numbers ticking from the L to the 3rd floor where the offices were. It was a bit of a lose lose situation. He could easily speed down, but would leave poor Namine. Or he could waste time with the painfully long wait of the morning rush.

The slow elevator ride down seemed to annoy Shadow just a little. Namine kept quiet, knowing she was the one that was keeping him from racing down the stairs like he usually did in a burst of speed that was outside of her capabilities. She ducked her head again, holding her sketch pad in front of her. It took a lot not to mumble another apology but she was afraid he would get mad if she kept apologizing.
"D-Do you go to Nevermore a lot?" she asked.

A quiet "Pft" was often the closest anyone got from Shadow when it came to laughs. He made this sound in answer to Namine's question. "A day without Nevermore is like a day without..." He paused, realizing the simile was going nowhere. There hadn't been any days since the black war where the sky was clear. The sun shone, but it wasn't bright or sunny. "I mean yes."

She glanced over at him curiously. A day without what? He obviously didn't intend to finish that sentence since he pushed on past it, not too subtly. Shadow was a curious person. He kept his cards very close. He probably wouldn't end up telling her, even if she asked so she let it go. No point in pushing especially when she was too nervous to. She didn't have the backbone to keep asking questions. There was a reason Shadow and the other officers did the interrogations, not her.
"I d-do too." she said. "O-On my days off."

Apparently going to Nevermore for the artist was a treat, whereas for Shadow and Sunshine it was a way of life. She was certainly more of a tea person, not a person who took coffee - straight like him, or hazelnut cream with Sunshine's case - she was jittery enough without the access caffeine. Maybe tea was good to focus on something like drawing a suspect.
"I go in every day. Do you sit in the back corner? It's a good, quiet place."

Namine nodded. The corner was her go to spot when it came to Nevermore, especially when she wanted to spend all day there. She could see everything from the corner and she did enjoy people watching, when she hadn't gotten caught doing it, much to her embarrassment. Like with Elsa or with Adeline. They were nice but they had caught Namine staring.
"E-Everyone t-there is nice too," she said softly.

"Apparently the Seddons' deposition goes beyond sun control," Shadow joked, having heard the inkling of Namine's quiet murmur.
The Seddon family was unlike any family he had ever met in his life. When he had saved their daughter from a vampire gang, he did not expect them to just welcome him into the fold with open arms. Especially given to how...not unlike a good Other like the Seelie who gave their family sun powers was. He walked a line between being a hero to being viewed as evil just for his appearance and unknown heritage; some called him a demon, others called him a were, he had heard every single judgment of what Other he was.
The elevator dinged, snapping him out of his depressing musings. The red, lit cabin beckoned them. "Ladies first."

"W-What do you mean?" Namine asked.
Powers beyond sun control? Sun control sounded so much better than memory manipulation. And yet Sunshine hadn't struck her as an Other or even a Gifted Human. Then again, Namine was a horrible judge of character because she was always looking for the worst and her first signal to get away. She was a bundle of nerves at best. If she were brave like Elsa or Sunshine, she would probably have more friends and not botch every social encounter she ever had because she was so afraid people wouldn't like her. As she looked over at Shadow, she noted an unreadable expression on his face. He was deep in thought about something, but her timidness kept her from asking about that. She just nodded quietly and stepped off the elevator when Shadow encouraged her to step out first.
