Yang had to smile. Shadow was a bookworm? That was kind of surprising. He didn't look like one. Then again, you couldn't judge a book by its cover. Sunshine practically shuddered at the mention of Black Friday. Yang had gone to a few herself. She could never miss an opportunity for a good bargain, even if it meant going to a store that was more like a war-zone. "Pff, I've seen some of that first-hand. Had to elbow a guy in the face last year to get a hold of a space heater." It wasn't Yang's proudest moment, but when the chips were down, she wasn't known for fighting fair. Besides, she had probably needed it more than the guy anyway. Space heaters were essential to making sure she and her kids stayed warm during the winter.

"That doesn't surprise me," Shadow nodded. Yang fighting off someone to get something that could be of importance wasn't too far. She took care of kids, and if a space heater was going to keep them toasty in the winter, no one, not even an innocent bystander who may or may not have needed it more than her, was going to get in her way. She had literally blasted off to catch a supposed serial killer when they first met. "Elbow's the best use for self defense. Bluntest part of the body, so you avoid breaking bones. Nice use there."

Yang grinned. "If there's one thing I know backwards and forwards, it's how to kick somebody's butt," she said. Heck, that was how she made a living most of the time. Sure, trying to sell junk was a safer method of getting cash, but that was no fun. Although, admittedly, she had been trying to keep her promise to Moses and try to find legal ways to punch someone in the face. If Pitch caught her in another underground fight again, he wouldn't show her any sympathy.

If Shadow could arch an eyebrow, he would have. Yang was a fighter? A few questions came up, such as where she learned to fight, but that answered itself; her life on the street. Following it was the question of where she continued to fight. It had to have been underground fighting rings. But pestering about that would make her think they were stalking her, which wasn't the case. He opened his mouth to say something, but Sunshine beat him,
"If you ever want to have a practice session, you can ask one of us to let you into the training yard. We have this cool device called a spectre. You set up any kind of fight you want, and bam, you're off punching and kick and whatever. It's like our own personal fight club. Shadow took down like thirty demons in five minutes."
Okay. So bringing up the spectre was way better than what Shadow thought Sunshine was going to talk about. A well-kept secret he held was his dabbling in fight rings. He had only done it illegally several times, but every time he fought, he had won. In terms of joining legal rings, he had joined one, but had been bested all because he was cocky enough to remove his inhibitor rings. That excessive power had left him winded for using so much energy, and led for an humiliating knockout. Since then, the spectre was the most he got to fighting.

Yang wasn't sure if hanging out around the police station was a good idea, but she was impressed to hear about Shadow's skills. "Dang dude, you're like a one-man army," she said with a grin. She had no idea that a million questions were going through Shadow's head about how Yang had learned to fight, and how she was currently using her skills. She was just surprised that a hedgehog could pack a punch like that.

"I don't like to brag, but..." Shadow rubbed the back of his quills in mock embarrassment. "Time in fight clubs teach you things. That and chaos helps."
Sunshinr smiled while rolling her eyes. Shadow may have had an ego in the past, but push the right buttons and he could prove his skills. He had shown that ego into besting vampires...who responded by cheating. She was walking by, when a glint caught her eye.
The mask wasn't much, just a white piece of glitter, but something in its simplicity spoke to her. She could see it now, the white glitter framed by golden curls, it's owners lavender eyes winking with mischief. "Hey, Yang, how about this mask?" she pointed to it

Yang nodded in agreement. Fighting other people in the ring was what had really made her get good. That, and just the chaos of the night life around here. She hadn't seen a full-blown riot since striking out on her own, but that didn't mean the streets didn't get a little crazy after dark. The topic of the conversation was soon changed when Sunshine found a mask for Yang. As soon as she liked it, she knew it was the one. "That'll match my dress perfectly," she said. She reached over for the mask, running her finger over the little rhinestones glued on it. They were fake, but they still shined, and she liked that. "Good thing I ran into some savvy shoppers today," she said with a smile.

Sunshine blushed. Savvy? She barely had any time to go out and shop in Magnolia. Working multiple shifts and being a cop had drained so many seconds of her day. "Aww, you flatterer," she tossed her hand at Yang in mild embarrasment. She smiled at the price tag. "And score, it's less than ten!"

"That makes it a double win in my book," Yang said. The only thing better than finding something you were looking for was finding it at a low price. Yang felt like she could get a little cheap when it came to the mask. She probably wouldn't wear it again. The dress was what she hoped would last her a while. Who knew when she might have to go to a fancy event in the future.

"Okay, my lady," Sunshine stepped aside to let Yang purchase the mask. "It's yours. Now we won't find you at the masquerade. Camouflage!" She waved her hands with a 'woooo' noise. It would be tricky to find her in the sea of rich people in masks.

Yang had to laugh at Sunshine as she quickly paid for her mask. Within a minute, she had it safely tucked in a plastic bag. "Let's hope people don't get us mixed up," she said. "Shadow's already done it once." She shot a grin at the hedgehog.

"Ha ha." Shadow folded his arms with his sarcastic remark. "I learned my lesson. When I get Sunshine mad, she doesn't want to set my ass on fire." Yang's teasing grin was just highlighting how he had confused the two. Seeing them side by side, it was clear to see some differences, in all fairness, but they could have passed off as twins.
"Maybe we should have collaborated, Yang. We could have been those twins from The Shining." She stood stock still and spoke all monotone, "Come play with us, Shadow. Forever. And ever. And ever."
"You think you're scaring me, but honestly, you're just amusing me," Shadow remarked

Yang burst out laughing at Sunshine's impersonation. Shadow seemed pretty amused too. "Maybe we'll have to save that for Halloween," she said. "We can scare people into giving my kids candy." While usually, the kids' costume were a bit thrown together, Yang always made sure to take them to lots of houses so they could get candy. It was something they always looked forward too.

"You can bring the kids tricking or treating at Shadow's apartment complex. It needs some scary kids," Sunshine beamed. "There's only one little kid there. Halloween there is...kind of depressing." She had gone over to watch a horror movie marathon with him one year. The hallway had doors with some Halloween decor, but other than that, it was pretty bare. There was even candy bowls thrown out in a half-assed way, with only a few signs of them being disturbed. This wasn't the first time she had heard of Yang's kids. One of them, Louie, had eaten three platefuls of beignets in one go. It was...kind of astounding.
"She's right. Just one, sad little girl and her dad every year," Shadow replied. "Speaking of Halloween, you think they'll do something over the top like they do every year?"

"Louie and Cody would like that," Yang said. "They're always trying to jump-scare people. I think Jenny and Penny were talking about going as princesses this year, or something. They do like to plan ahead." Jenny in particular liked to think things through and organize. She was surprisingly methodical for a little kid. Then again, it was easier for her to get info with her animal friends helping. She had been befriending quite a few mice and pigeons since coming to live with Yang, and she would talk to them all the time about what they had seen or done that day. She had even talked to a few stray cats around the city, although she said they tended to be pretty skittish, even around her.
