Moses nodded. "Alright then, thanks for the head's up Vanitas" He got up and made his way around and over the mess in the room, looking for the bathroom. When he found it he picked up a worn washcloth and poured water from the jug over it. He wrung it out and picked his way back to Van's side. Moses crouched down again and gently wiped the dust out of Van's eyes. "Blink a couple times and tell me if anything is getting better" Moses gently ordered. "Most of the powder is out so hopefully that helps you"

A few moments of silence and then a wet rag to his face. Vanitas sat still, oddly good behavior on his part. Then the gentle pressure from the rag was gone. He didn't talk back, but did as he was told and blinked. His face was wet, he could feel the damp clinging to his face and lashes. His vision was still clouded but it had improved to a point where he could see an outline. Then a few more times and he could see the hazy image of Moses in front of him. Of course it was a simple fix. It only served to make him look bad.
"That was stupidly simple." he groused.

"Stupidly simple if there was someone to help you" Moses said, and continued washing the dust out of Van's eyes, one hand gently pressed to the side of Van's head to help keep him still. Once he had gotten as much dust out as he could he sat back on his heels and regarded Vanitas curiously. "You're not so bad when you're behaving. Why not try to be good? You aren't half bad. Bet people would be all over you if you weren't an ass all the time"

"You get to pretend because you're only a Halfling." Vanitas replied, for once sounding quite defeated about it. "Once they know what you are, they made up their minds."
Perhaps he would have regretted the things he had done, but he had already given into his full demon side. He no longer felt remorse or pity. When he was a kid he would have. He had tried so hard to be 'good' as a child, but with so many people putting him down during the war, threatening him, trying to kill him, he had hardened. The world was kill or be killed. He did what he did in order to survive the war, now he was trying to carve out a place in the world for himself the only way he knew how. It may not have been the best way, but it was the way he knew that worked. Even if lately his 'progress' was quite hindered thanks to the cops. Also soon to be fixed.

Moses frowned and touched Vanitas' cheek. "You haven't seen my friends. They know what I am and they don't run away. If you lightened up, I'm sure they would embrace you too" but there was a good point there. Moses only ever told his friends when he felt they wouldn't freak out about it. When he was sure he could trust them. He had been treated badly as a kid when his demon side had come out and he tried hard to keep it under control. His mother had always taught him to win them with kindness, and that's what he tried to do, for the most part.

"And you don't know me." Vanitas snapped. "You think I can be redeemed? I tried to kill someone tonight. I wanted to."
Vanitas had killed before. Here Moses was, trying to see the good that even Vanitas knew wasn't there anymore. It annoyed the demon to no end. Vanitas knew he was a bad person, even the police knew it. Only Moses seemed to act like he could be a 'good guy' all because Vanitas had managed not to be snarky for a minute or two and sat still.
"I don't do nice."

Moses backed away with his hands up. "Alright then. You wanted to kill someone tonight, you almost did. But you didn't. Maybe it was destiny telling you something" he smiled slightly and put his hands on his knees. "And I don't break the law. But here I am, helping you. We can do seemingly impossible things if we try" Moses got up and looked around. "Do you have a kitchen and is it stocked? Looks like you need some hot chocolate and some food"

"Destiny," Vanitas scoffed. "What are you? A fortune cookie?"
He didn't believe in destiny. This was sheer dumb luck. He rolled his eyes. Who did this halfling thing he was, coming into Vanitas' home and demanding these things. Moses certainly made himself at home. Even he knew it wasn't a good idea to 'bite' the hand that took care of him. Or at least he had some sort of grudging respect. He may not have wanted Moses around but he wasn't about to attack the guy either. At least this time.
"Food's in the tote by the sink." he said.

Moses shrugged. "I'm just stating the facts as I see them" he walked to the kitchen and crouched by the bag, rummaging in there for things that Vanitas could eat. He pulled out a can of ravioli and a can-opener. This would have to do. His own stomach growled but he ignored it. Overhead came the distant sound of rain on a roof and Moses was glad they had gotten inside. He opened the can and with some rummaging of boxes found silverware and bowls. He plopped the food into the bowl and stuck a spoon into it .He then made his way back to the demon and sat beside him, offering the food. "Eat. You'll feel better"

"Not unless you eat it first." Vanitas replied.
He wasn't about to eat something a stranger made for him, especially one who pulled him off the streets and tended his injuries and now made him food. It just sounded bad. No one did these things without asking for something in return. Vanitas didn't trust Moses, even if the guy seemed to think the better of him. His evening just went from bad to weird.

Moses rolled his eyes and took a large bite of the cold ravioli. He chewed slowly and swallowed before wiping off the sauce that had dripped onto his chin. He then handed the food to Vanitas and brushed his hands off on his jeans. "Satisfied? Why would I do something to your food anyhow? I'm not that kind of guy. I'm a nice half demon"

"Didn't seem so nice when you were beating my face in," Vanitas retorted.
But he did slowly start to eat. The food was shitty since it wasn't warm. But it was better than eating nothing and he doubted Moses wanted to watch as he intimidated some carry out place into a delivery. Mostly because Vanitas didn't have a job and didn't have money. He would threaten the mom and pop shop for food as 'protection from him'.

Moses' face heated in shame and he looked down. "You were egging me on. It's hard to reign in my demonic nature when it's being constantly goaded by someone" He toyed with the fringe on his pants, they were worn and fraying and he really needed a new pair. "But you've been surprisingly nice this whole time" He got up again and looked towards the door. "But I should be going. I...I've got to get to work. I offered to take graveyard shift and all"

"I'm not nice," Vanitas spat.
Moses was starting to make him mad. By Moses repeating how much potential that Vanitas had for 'good' it just infuriated him. Moses was pushing Vanitas' temporary truce. He rolled his eyes and got to his feet. Once Moses left, Vanitas would get some real food in him. Then start planning to move to another safe house. At least he hadn't unpacked yet.
"Whatever. Don't expect me to be here if you come back," he replied.

Moses shrugged at the spat words. In his opinion the demon just needed a little push in the right direction, but he had enough sense to know he shouldn't push it right now. "Okay, you're just having an off day. I'm still glad" he looked around and sighed. "Maybe when you leave I'll move in. I need a new place to hide out from dad anyway"
