Oh. So that was why this guy was looking for Thrax. He owed him something in return since he had received help at the ball. Thrax must have been pretty desperate to accept help from this guy, Adeline thought to herself. If the demon in front of her hated it when people owed him something, she was pretty sure that Thrax hated being indebted to someone even more. However, her heart skipped a beat when the guy suggested taking her as payment. Her demon side kicked up a notch when her fear increased, reacting like a cornered animal. Adeline bit her lip, trying to keep herself under control. "Stay back," she ordered. If she let loose, she didn't know what could happen. She could just end up making this guy angrier.

"And what are you going to do to stop me?"
He reached out, seizing Adeline by the face. His fingers dug into either side of her cheeks as he pulled her close. He left her no choice but to look him in the eyes. It was almost laughable how easy it was to push her around. Besides, maybe he should show Thrax what it meant to keep him waiting. Vanitas was not a very patient man. He had places to be, people do kill, things like that. It was very inconvenient to have to wait on someone to get back in touch. The other demon accepted his help and hadn't even tried to get in contact with Vanitas about repaying this 'favor' of his. He started to laugh to himself. He could always turn this evening around.

Adeline gave a cry as Vanitas pulled her close, fingers digging into her skin. No, no, no, no! Even as she struggled to get free, she could feel her demon side fighting to be released. She closed her eyes, trying to remember what Pitch taught her, but it was no use. Her flight or fight response was kicking, and since she couldn't run away, fighting was her only option. "I said...stay back!" Her eyes snapped open. Instead of their usual blue, they were now glowing red, and her teeth were locked in a snarl. Magic burst out of her like an orange that had been squeezed too tightly. With any luck, it would at least get Vanitas to let go of her. Whether it would get him to leave was another story.

Vanitas let her go when she lashed out. A step back and a brow raise was all the reaction she got from him. A reaction like that was interesting to say the least. He wondered what else she could do. It would only take more pushing. Hopefully she wasn't like that halfing demon that got to the brink of falling into his demonic nature, only to back down time and time again, too afraid to cross that line between human and Other. Shadows curled around him, ready to be used at his whim but not yet. He still wanted to play around just a bit more. Perhaps this was what Thrax saw in the girl, raw potential for so much chaos.
"Is that so?" he taunted.

Adeline's hands curled into fists. Did this guy think this was all just a game? What did he get out of this? She remembered how close the police had gotten to capturing Thrax. He had practically been in their gasp. Then, this guy had helped him escape. It was his fault that Thrax was still on the loose. Her anger grew, and her demon side loved it. It fed off of it. Part of her knew she shouldn't let herself get out of control like this, but she couldn't help it. It had been ages since this side of her had been released, and it wanted to stay in control for as long as possible. "How could you help him?" she snarled. "Don't you know what he's done?" Magical energy crackled and popped around her, like sparklers.

"I was bored." Vanitas replied.
It was his go to answer for most of the things he did. That and he hated how humans acted like they were so good and pure when under the right circumstances, they could be worse than demons. Even this meek little school girl had the potential for so much evil. He liked pushing them past the edge. It made consuming the souls of the people he damned all that much more enjoyable. It gave them 'flavor'. He didn't need the souls, but really, he had no other purpose in life than to cause problems. He took the souls as trophies. Hers was tainted. What a waste, but he could still snuff out her little light to show Thrax he meant business.
"No. I don't know and I honestly don't care."

Adeline's rage grew. How could this man have so little regard for what was going on around him? Thanks to him, Thrax was out there, doing who knew what. And he didn't even care. "I should tear you apart right now," she threatened. Every part of her wanted to do it. Her demon side craved it. Scaring people was good and all, but it had been so long since she had really hurt someone. And she could practically justify hurting this guy. He had helped Thrax, the demon who was responsible for every miserable thing in her life. He should pay for it.

"I'd like to see you try," Vanitas said.
He really did want to see her try. This meek and innocent little girl had just changed drastically. It was quite amusing. She had cowered before him. Now she was threatening to obliterate him. That was kind of amusing. She acted like she was so sweet and innocent. Vanitas itched to see what she was capable of. She thought she knew darkness and demons just because she had a brush with one. It was laughable.

That was all the provocation Adeline needed. There was so much anger and frustration inside her, she needed to let it out. No, she wanted to let it out. She didn't care about holding herself back. She didn't want to feel afraid and powerless anymore. At least, that was what her demon side was thinking. That was what was making these thoughts whirl through her head like a tornado. The human part of her was desperately trying to regain control, but it was a losing battle at the moment. Her demon side was too strong. Letting out a scream that sounded like a war cry, Adeline shot her hands forward. A beam of magic energy shot from her palms like a laser, heading straight for Vanitas.

Vanitas laughed manically. He dodged out of the way. Now this was a good bit of fun. It was going to be very interesting. He got back to his feet and looked up at her. His shadows lashed out, grabbing at her, trying to restrain her. He would just have to show her what a real demon could do. There was a dark gleam in his eyes as a dark smile crossed his lips.
"You're going to have to try better than that." he mocked.

Adeline's teeth gnashed together. She had missed, and Vanitas took full advantage of the opportunity as he made shadows grab her. She struggled to pull away from them, and her anger sparked again at Vanitas's taunting. "Shut up, shut up, shut up!" Her magic power exploded again, causing a shockwave of energy to ripple out around her. Anything hit by it would be stunned, at least for a moment.

Her next attack was a little more difficult to dodge. He escaped but only narrowly. He ducked behind a large dumpster. She had all but drilled a hole through the metal. Her magic was fierce but she could very well get better. She had so much potential for chaos. She was restrained but lashing like a wild animal. He glowered over his shoulder at the girl. He wanted a challenge. It seemed he was going to get one. She was truly a delight. This alone proved why Thrax liked her so much.
"Face it, you're no better than I am," he laughed.

"Shut up!" Adeline's mind wasn't capable of witty retorts or snappy comebacks. She just wanted to land one hit, to show how angry she was. "You helped the person who ruined my life!" Her magic curled around her arms, burning like flames. "He took everything from me, and made me some freak of nature!" With a single blast, she knocked the dumpster aside, sending it flying. "You'll pay for this!" She dashed forward, her fist swinging forward in a punch.

"He made your life interesting," he mocked. "Face it."
Vanitas raised a brow. He grinned. She had knocked the dumpster aside like it was nothing. So much raw potential for chaos. He wanted her to really get her hands dirty, to lash out and show her true colors. It was exhilarating to say the least. He sent a wave of his own shadows at her, knocking her back and giving him some distance. He was going to have to get his hands around her neck. This human girl picked the wrong Other to get on the bad side of.
"You would make a wonderful demon."

Those words hit Adeline hard, almost as much as the shadows that knocked her backwards. "No!" There was no way she would accept that as being true. She was a witch, not a demon. She would never be one, ever. She let out another battle cry as she released a barrage of energy bolts, shooting one right after the other. "I'm not a demon! I'm not! I'm not!" It didn't matter that she was saying these words as her demon side controlled her mind. What Vanitas said had made her angry, and anger was the fuel that her demon side needed to keep going. It thrived off of every negative emotion she felt.
