Axel was back on shift. There were lots of people in the bar, not enough to be over crowded or in high demand. There was even room at the bar top for patrons to join him up there in case they felt like getting their drinks as fast as humanly possible. Or inhumanly. If there was anything Axel did well, it was mixing drinks well and fast. He hadn’t had a complaint yet, well aside from the humans who tried to get him fired because they didn’t want 'his kind' serving drinks. So he had the bouncer remove them from the bar. Don't want his kind serving, fine. Leave. No skin off his back.
Someone new joined him at the bar. A new customer. Axel grinned. It was always the fun part, seeing new faces and trying to guess what sort of drinks that they wanted. Probably a light ale, something on tap, not the bottled stuff. The guy probably didn't drink sour beers though some people preferred them. The guy looked like he could hit a hard drink if he felt like it, but did he feel up to it tonight? That was the question and he supposed he would get his answer.
"What's your poison?" Axel asked.

Moses slid into the bar quietly, before the crowd got thick. He looked around and stuffed his hands into his pockets as he walked over to the bar. He sat down and rubbed a finger over the bar counter. It was cleaner than the last time he'd been here. Then again that had been over two years ago when he'd been armed with nothing but a face ID and a bad attitude. Now, finally, he was legal. "Bourbon with a shot of rootbeer and black cherries" he said automatically when he'd been asked what he wanted to drink. He looked up and gave a half smile. "Let's see if you can do better than the guy I knew. A nymph named Garrett, bout a few years ago he worked here" Moses didn't know where Garrett had gone, and he'd been replaced by a rather bad bartender, but Moses had heard good things about the new bartender and had come in to try him out, so to speak.

"Oh, a challenge, huh?"
Axel grinned. The challenge brought forth his competitive nature. Of course he was better than some nymph. It was undisputed he was better than the guy who had worked here in between Axel's employment and Garrett's. He reached for one of the better bourbons and mixed the shot of root beer with a flourish because he had to make it look as good as it was going to taste. He then plunked the cherries into the drink. He twirled the glass in hand for a moment before setting it in front of the client.
"So is that great or what?" Axel asked with a grin.

Moses raised an eyebrow and smirked. "You bet it was a challenge there dude" he murmured and waited for his drink. The guy was certainly showy, no doubt about that. Now could he make a good bourbon root beer? Moses would be the judge of that. When the drink was slid up to him he took a sip and nodded thoughtfully. "Not bad" he said. Okay, better than not bad but Moses wasn't about to tell this guy that right out. Let him work for it. "You're a great showman, sold me on your ability mixing" Moses grinned at him.

"Only not bad?" Axel asked. "I'm a little hurt."
He smiled. The guy obviously liked the drink because he hadn’t demanded something else or tossed it back in Axel’s face. It happened once and the guy learned to never ever do it again. Axel’s short temper may have gotten the better of him in that situation. Who could blame him though? This guy was in good humor at least. He was probably just here to drink away the day’s stresses. He wasn’t showing any signs of something on his mind but that could all be changed. The night was early and he barely had one drink in him.
"Aren't you hard to impress."

Moses raised an eyebrow. "Get your feelings hurt that easily, huh? What do ya do when drunk morons insult you?" Moses laughed and swirled the contents in his glass. "Not if you know how to impress me" he murmured, thinking of Vanitas and how it had taken him a little while to impress Moses. Their first meeting had been far from pleasant, but their last meeting...literally mind blowing. "So, what do I call the new guy?" Moses asked with amusement. "I'm Moses"

"I kick them out." he said with a grin.
Axel leaned back against the display case, folding his arms across his chest. Something had put Moses in a good mood and that was always good in Axel's book. He hated the sob stories, about how terrible life could be, how broke the person was or how their work sucked. Yes, everyone had that story, but it was always better when someone was in a good mood when they drank. It was better when they had a problem and he could offer advice. Like with Shadow, or just an ear to talk to like with Anna. People came to a bar with different needs.
"The name's Axel, got it memorized?" he asked.

Moses laughed. "Oooh boy, bet that's getting patrons" he joked with a grin. Moses winked at Axel as he drank more of his drink. "Oh sure, Alicia" he teased and then nodded. "Axel's a hard name to forget, so no worries dude" He was still in a good mood from his night with Vanitas. The demon was a hard one to forget and he had reacted in the loveliest ways in their night together, coupled with the fact he'd seemed outright sorry to leave and had actually stayed the night with Moses instead of leaving after the act and well, what wasn't there to be pleased about? He'd gotten the pain in everyone's side to submit to him, Moses. What wasn't there to feel good about?

"Hey, if they mess with the man making their drinks, how do you think they're going to treat anyone else?"
And it was ballsy to mess with Axel. For all they knew, he could slip something in their drink, make it taste nasty or mess up the order. It wasn't a wise thing to do with the guy who had so much control over their alcohol intake. Not to mention, if they were rude to Axel, they were likely rude to other customers. Axel preferred not to have the police in his bar every other night because some guy hit on the wrong love or because some woman started a full bar brawl because she dumped her drink on the wrong person. It saved him headaches and his temper. Not to mention his no-fire streak.
"Alicia, haven't heard that one before," Axel replied with a sarcastic eye roll. "Better be nice or I might have to take your drink back."
He was just teasing. Something apparently had Moses in a good mood, but Axel knew it was better not to pry about it. Let the details come to him. Because some people liked to keep the 'good things' to themselves. The 'bad things' were often what people told him about. Lost a car, lost a job, lost a lover, passed over for a promotion, lost their home, lost a loved one. Sad stuff that he would help them work through with drinks and some advice.

"Point taken" he chuckled and sipped his drink. Slowly, slowly, had to give the cherries time to absorb the bourbon so he could eat them. He loved fruit soaked in alcohol, it was a taste he'd developed back when he'd allowed himself to run as demon-side and it was a taste he'd kept. He liked the flavor of bourbon mixed with the sweet tang of cherries and the warm feeling he got in his chest as the fruit was swallowed. "Oh fight me for it. I'm in a good mood and want to celebrate with a drink" Moses said lightly, almost jovially. He was in a relatively good mood, despite lingering disappointment of Pitch's disapproval.

"Do tell," Axel said since obviously Moses was in a talking mood. "What's got you so giddy?"
Moses wasn't exactly doing kartwheels through the bar but he did seem happy about something. It was a nice change of pace. No heart ache. No work stresses. Just some good mood. Axel preferred it when his customers celebrated with drinks. People were better when they were happy drunks anyways. He hated seeing people drink their sorrows away or rather drink to intensify them. He smiled kindly to the other young man, sincerely happy that something was going well for him.

"Well..." Moses swished the contents of his glass back and forth and smiled. "I don't know for sure. Can you tell if you really like somebody after one lay? I mean the guy is a cantankerous snot but..." he chuckled and shook his head. "I'm just happy. Things are going okay and nothing cataclysmically bad has happened in over 48 hours. I think that deserves some sort of celebration, ya know?" he drank the rest of his drink and carefully pulled one cherry out and separated stem from fruit before biting down. Yes, that was good. That hit the spot. "The snot picked a fight with me the first time we met but he's calmed down since. I almost think he's realizing there's a little good in him after all. Idiot"

Despite talking badly about the guy, the fondness for this 'snot' as Moses put it was obvious in his voice. Axel didn't know what the guy could have done to endear himself to Moses, but he had apparently done something right. He could see affection stemming from a night like that. It certainly couldn't be love quite yet but adulation was a strong possibility. He also didn't know the 'snot' in question. Might not be a mutual thing or maybe one was more forthcoming with their emotions than the other. But if things hadn't blown up in Moses' face, it was cause for celebration. More importantly, after sleeping with the guy, he hadn't woken up missing organs or something equally weird. That was a plus too.
"Sure." Axel shrugged. "I can see it happening. Must have been a really good night if you're still on cloud nine about it."

"It's not just that night. He calls himself tough and bad and all that, but he...well, there are random moments when he can be so gentle and kind. I really like those moments" he chuckled and pulled another stem from another cherry and put it in his mouth. He chewed swallowed and nodded. "He acts like he's bad shit around anyone and everyone else but with me...well...the posturing stops. I don't think he knows what to be when he's not acting tough. but he's trying and that's all I care about"

"Sounds like he's a handful." Axel said.
A guy who tried to act tougher than he was. He could probably cause a lot of trouble for Moses in the long run. But Moses seemed to be too twitterpated to see that. Axel wouldn't burst his bubble. He wouldn't ruin someone's happiness over his own doubts. He was the bartender. He was supposed to comfort people, cheer them up, cheer them on, encourage them. He was just going to let Moses enjoy this 'high'. It was better than he not take drugs or drink himself stupid to 'ease' his nerves or anything.
"Is there any reason for him to try to act all big and bad?"
