"That's right," Yang replied, wondering where this was going. She soon found out when Aqua asked if she had seen a certain girl there. Her description sounded awfully familiar, and it took Yang a moment to realize why. "That's Namine, right?" she asked. Truthfully, she had spoken to her only once or twice, but she was pretty nice once she opened up. "No, I haven't seen her recently." Her hands moved to her hips as she added "Guess I'm not the only one who's got a friend MIA."

"Yeah, she... comes in here often."
If Namine hadn't come into Nevermore then where was she? It wasn't like her at all. Nevermore was like a second home to the little artist. She went from work, to Nevermore to home. Now Aqua was concerned. Namine didn't just disappear like this and the faery was starting to fear the worst. Now there were two missing girls? Something wasn't right. She had a terrible feeling about this.
"You're missing someone too?" Aqua asked. "Who?"

Yang frowned. That was a little puzzling. She can't imagine where else Namine would be. As far as she knew, shy introverts didn't get out much. "Yeah, my friend Jane," she replied when Aqua asked if she had a friend who was missing too. "She hasn't been answering her phone or anything. I stopped by her place once, but she wasn't there. I'd ask her dad, but he seemed a bit...preoccupied, last time I talked to him. I don't know if they're having family drama or what, but something's up." She paused for a moment before adding "Or maybe I'm just being a little paranoid. I don't know." She didn't want to start freaking out just because she hadn't heard from Jane in a while. But, she had to admit, it usually wasn't this hard for her to get in touch with her friend. And Omar seemed to have something on his mind. Yang just didn't know what.

"I can look into it, if you like?" Aqua offered. "Maybe Jane and Namine know each other and just forgot to tell everyone they were out or something?"
Unlikely, but if it would help soothe Yang's nerves she was willing to offer that up as a possibility. Two girls didn't just go missing like that. The officer in her had been unsettled. Now she was definitely going to get to the bottom of this. She only hoped that both of them were safe. Namine hadn't answered her phone either. Even worse, Aqua had found her sketchbook in the streets the night before.
"Tell me about Jane. What's she like?"
The more she learned about Jane, she could find a similarity between Namine and Jane.

"I guess," Yang replied. "Jane's not...a big fan of cops though. Like, even more than I was." Even when she was taking care of her kids, Yang had had a few friends that were on the force. Jane, not so much. It was for a good reason, though. The cops had whisked her away to a foster system without even checking if her dad was still around. It was total neglect on their side, and it had kept Jane and Omar apart for many years. "Well, she's half troll. Brown hair, blue-green eyes. Definitely not the shy type." Sure, Jane was nice when meeting people and stuff. But she could turn into a little firecracker in less than a second.

"Yeah... Not a lot of people do like us these days." Aqua said.
But she made a promise when she took the badge - one she took very seriously. Protect and serve. Even if she wasn't wanted or wasn't asked to, she was obligated to help people. It was just in her nature - quite literally - so there was no point in fighting it. There were bad cops out there. But the team she was on did her best to help people. They did a lot of good work, at least that was what Aqua liked to believed.
"Wait... Troll... Omar LaRue's daughter?" Aqua asked.

Yang gave a little sigh. She knew some cops were major jerks and stuff, but people like Aqua didn't deserve that kind of hate. Neither did people like Sunshine or Shadow. They were good people. Even she could see that much. When Aqua asked if Jane was Omar's daughter, she gave a nod. "Yup, that's the one." No doubt quite a few cops knew Omar. He hadn't gotten tangled with the police quite as much as Yang had, but it was still enough to give him a reputation.

"Mr. LaRue doesn't exactly like me..." she explained. "I sort of arrested him once. It was a bar fight."
She gave a nervous sort of laugh. Dislike her? That was an understatement. He thought her incapable. Mostly because she could not make charges stick against Vanitas. Riku had explained Omar's dislike for the police. Aqua understood. The cops who hurt him and Jane were stupid and they should have checked things out first instead of just acting. But Aqua couldn't be held responsible for what those cops did. She wasn't them and did not operate under the same standards.

"Oh dear." If Omar wasn't a big fan of Aqua, Jane might not be either. Things might be awkward if Aqua managed to find her, or try to ask her if she had seen Namine. "Typical Omar behavior," she muttered under her breath before glancing up at Aqua. "He's a good guy, for real. He's just...a little out of control sometimes. Sort of like me." That was part of the reason why the two of them had become friends so quickly. They tended to be hot-headed and get into trouble easily.

"Well, yeah... It was before we... put out a warrant on the demon he fought for other things," Aqua said a little quieter.
Like possibly killing Terra. Aqua bowed her head. She wished she could go back and arrest Vanitas fully back then. He had hurt Pitch and cursed Riku! And now, thanks to a detective, he had also attacked the giant that tried to bring him in. The situation with Vanitas was a hot mess at best. Aqua wanted people to see the police as someone they could trust but it was so hard when other officers hurt them before. It made trust a little more than difficult to obtain. But she was doing what she could to make up for those past mistakes.
"I'm sure. But I was just doing my job." Aqua said. "I had to bring in both parties who were involved in the fight..."

Once Aqua mentioned that Omar was brought in for getting into a fight with a demon, it rang a bell in Yang's mind. She remembered him talking about that months ago. And, she specifically remembered which demon he had tangled with. "It was Vanitas, right?" she asked. She still loathed the guy with every fiber of her being, and she was scared of him too. Most demons tended to be like him, and Thrax. The only one she knew of that wasn't was Pitch.

"That's right." Aqua said. "Vanitas is dangerous, so if you see him, just... I don't care if you call the police, but please, call me. We can't let him hurt anyone else."
She wouldn't be able to live with herself if he just kept hurting other people. It wasn't right. Vanitas was a nuisance and he could seriously hurt someone. A danger to everyone around him. She hated thinking of someone like that but when they had time and time and time again to change themselves for the better but didn't... He was just asking for trouble. He attacked Omar, he attacked Pitch, he attacked Riku, he attacked Ralph and he maybe killed Terra. Those were just the attacks they knew about! It was too much for Aqua to bear.

Yang frowned. Aqua sounded kinda scared when she talked about Vanitas. He did seem to get in trouble with the police a lot, so maybe she had some experience dealing with him. And if someone like Aqua was shaken up by him, it probably wasn't a pleasant experience. Yang's hand curled into a fist. It seemed like she knew quite a few people who had run into this guy, and she wanted to make him pay for hurting her friends. "I swear, I'm gonna sock him in the jaw one day," she muttered.

"Yang I'm serious. I want you to call me. Don't fight this guy," Aqua insisted.
Maybe telling her to call the police had been a bad idea. Yang was headstrong. She acted as if she could take on the world. But Vanitas was... something else. He fought dirty, played dirty and killed. Two bodies popped up in the morgue with shadow magic twisting around them. It was signs of a scuffle with a demon but the two men were barely recognizable. It was bad. Really bad. Granted, it could have been Thrax, but the man had been inactive since the ball. Only Vanitas was going toe to toe with anyone.

Yang sighed. She knew Aqua was trying to look after her, but the idea of just turning tail and running...she didn't like it. It wasn't that Yang never ran at all, but she usually tried to swing a few punches before she took off. Besides, she hated giving Vanitas the satisfaction of seeing her run the minute she caught sight of him. Despite everything she had gone through, her pride was still one of her major weaknesses. "He deserves it," she said in response. "He deserves a taste of what he does to people." She could still remember the feeling of having Vanitas in her head, controlling her body. She had never felt so helpless in all her life. All she could do was sit back and watch as he did whatever he wanted. She never wanted to feel like that around him ever again.
