Aqua wanted to shake the girl until her teeth rattled. What part of 'he was dangerous' didn't she understand? It wasn't Yang's job to put her life on the line fighting madmen and crazy people. Aqua was the lunatic who signed up for that. She was the one getting paid to do it. Yang's dedication was to be admired, but she was just a kid. She had her entire life ahead of her before she had to decide what to dedicate it to. She just didn't want to see Yang get hurt. Maybe it was because she and Terra failed to protect her before, but Aqua couldn't let it happen again.
"Yang, we think he's the one who killed Terra," Aqua said heatedly. "If he hurts you too..."

That caught Yang by surprise. Vanitas had killed Terra? Seriously? Aqua made it sound like it was just speculation at this point, but Yang wouldn't put it past Vanitas to pull something off like that. She didn't know Terra personally, only that he and Aqua had been partners, and very close. Honestly, it just made her mad that Vanitas had done something like that. Why did he enjoy making people so miserable? "He's already hurt me once. There's not much else she can do," she retorted without even thinking. Then, her eyes widened as she realized what she had just said. That had been a dumb thing to say. Only a few people knew about that, and it wasn't something she liked to talk about.

"What did he do?" Aqua asked.
He hurt Yang too? Just how far was this demon's reach that he had even hurt Yang? Aqua swallowed thickly. She had him in her custody once. She had let him go. She had to because the mayor had granted him immunity, only to revoke it for all of his recent actions. But if she had pushed harder maybe she could have kept him off the streets before he had literally hurt everyone she had ever known. How could she say she was doing her job when she let him go?

Yang gave a sigh. Guess she had to spill the beans. "He possessed me, a few years back. Made me hurt this girl and steal her and her sister's stuff. He was only in my head for a night, but...he did enough damage. He's been rubbing it in my face ever since." Truthfully, the last time she had seen him was months ago, when the La Llorona killer was on the loose. He hadn't really tried anything, just made a few asshole-ish comments. But it was still enough to get under Yang's skin.

"Why didn't you say something?" she asked.
Aqua winced. She wished Yang could have told them. They would have had more than enough reason to get Vanitas off the streets. But the past was the past. It didn't make her regret it any less, but she just wanted Yang to realize she had people she could trust. But she didn't exactly have the track record to prove it... But Sunshine and Shadow spent a lot of time with others. They were kind.

"It was years ago. I didn't think it mattered," Yang replied. "I mean, he's messed with a lot of people. What's one more?" Of course, the real reason was a bit more simple than that. Yang just hadn't wanted to burden anyone with her problems. So a demon got in her head and had her burn someone. Other people had it worse. At least she hadn't killed again. At least he hadn't violated her body as well as her mind. She had gotten off lucky. At least, that was what she had kept telling herself.

"Because he took advantage of you Yang and we'll make sure he pays for that." Aqua said. "Because you're just as important as anyone else that he's hurt."
Yang's self worth could use some work it seemed. She thought she wasn't worth reporting over or that she had to take on the world by herself. Maybe one day she would convince Yang that she didn't have to do that, but for now, just the gentle reminder that she wasn't alone and there were people that cared had to suffice. It didn't matter if it was two years or two minutes ago, Aqua still wished Yang would have reported it. They might have gotten Vanitas off the streets for reckless magic or influence (literally) of a minor.

Aqua's words, in a way, were comforting. It made Yang remember that it was okay to accept help every once in a while. After all, she had gotten a lot of help lately. Omar had taken her in when Frollo had busted into the theater. Shadow, Sunshine, and Elsa had helped her find guardians for her kids, and a job. Riku had given her a place to live. And now here was Aqua, promising that Vanitas would get the justice he deserved for hurting Yang, as well as all his other victims. "Thanks. I know it's dumb to...think like that and stuff. I just...figured I got off lucky and just wanted to put it behind me."

Aqua's expression softened. It was awful to hear that Yang thought that way. She was such a sweet girl. She didn't deserve what happened to her, but really, who did? Aqua knew lots of people who were hurt and often, who didn't deserve it. Yang, Sunshine, Shadow, Namine, Jane, Omar, Terra... No. No one deserved to be hurt but it just happened. It was out of Aqua's control, just like Yang reporting this was outside of her control. That was on Yang to come forward. Hopefully if anything happened in the future, she wouldn't try to take on the world by herself.
"You don't have to worry about it." she said. "Not anymore. I promise."

Aqua made her promise with such conviction, Yang felt like it had a good chance of being true. Maybe Vanitas would be put away for good this time. Maybe he wouldn't hurt anyone ever again. That made Yang happy. People like him didn't deserve to be around good people who had done little wrong in their lives. "I hope you're right," she said. She hoped that things could be different this time.

Aqua nodded. She hoped that Yang believed her or could learn to believe her. She too had a reason to see all of this end. Vanitas had brought so much suffering to the city. Aqua's own suffering and Yang's. Aqua wanted to see it all stop. It was in her nature to get involved in situations like this. She sighed and shook her head. One battle at a time. They had Vanitas warrants out for his arrest. Once they arrested him, they could haul him into court for everything he ever did. Aqua would love to lock him up and throw away the key.
"It's going to be okay." she said.
Who was she trying to convince though? Herself or Yang?

Yang nodded as she said "Yeah." She had to believe that things would turn out okay. If she just moped about how bad it might become, then she would just be wasting her energy. She had to focus on the good outcomes. "Gotta keep things positive, right?" she said as she gave a smile. That was one thing Yang knew how to do. Whatever was bothering her, whatever bad things happened to her, she knew how to put them aside and focus on what she needed to do. She had been able to do it for her kids for years. Now, she needed to do it for herself.

"Exactly." Aqua said.
She was glad that Yang would at least try to look at the silver lining of it. They both needed a little hope. Without it, Aqua was afraid of what would happen to them both. She smiled. Unfortunately, there was no rest for the wicked. She had to see what she could find out what was going on with her roommate and Yang's friend Jane. There was something strange at work here.
"Listen, I should get over to the precinct. See if I can't find any news on Namine and Jane. I can call you the moment I get something?"

"That'd be great. Thanks." Just hearing that Jane was okay would be enough for Yang. In the meantime, maybe she'd try Omar again, see if she could get a hold of him. Hopefully, whatever was distracting him would be taken care of. "See you around." She gave a wave before heading off. She had the rest of the afternoon off, and she figured she might as well try to see if the rest of her magazine had stuff besides models.
