Aqua found that quite ironic. Red made a good point. People would beg to speak with loved ones, one last time, but she did not. Could not. But some people were desperate. Aqua could see the gift being twisted and manipulated with loved ones trying to prolong their time with their deceased. Forcing spirits to stay when they belonged elsewhere was how the BPD got poltergeists wasn't it? Sometimes spirits were just angry. It all depended on how they passed. But that was the limit of Aqua's knowledge of spirits.
"Police, wait... did you two help with the Grey Dawn bust?" she asked.
Was that why she looked so familiar? Aqua couldn't be sure. She had been sent up because she was the only flyer in the force. It was both a good and a bad thing. The only one who could have gotten an aerial. She had also been focused more on the guys trying to poison the water supply. She warned people when the gang was getting close, but she had to be the eyes for the entire team. She hadn't gotten to linger too much. If Red had helped, then she was certainly assisting in the justice system. Though, it was human justice. Not something the Faery Courts would have seen as justice. Then again, some of the stories she heard about faeries were pretty messed up too.
"I... Faeries keep to ourselves too," she said.
Aqua was probably one of the few faeries that ran around with humans. Never been around her own people. Didn't know her own Court. She was an outsider to both worlds. She knew she would stand out when she visited the Seelie Court, but even among humans she was strange and to some scary.

"Well I helped with some lesser demons getting camera input" Red said, giving Naveen a critical eye. "He was off gallivanting in the otha realms" Naveen snorted and rolled his eyes. "See? no answer" Red practically crowed. "Th' silly lazybones. He just didn't wanna work" Naveen didn't deign a response. Red nodded with understanding. "Yea, figures. Th' most interestin people are the ones who keep to themselves. I wouldn' mind travellin to the court to see the Seelie. But I doubt they'd allow an old codger like me with ties to th underworld!" she laughed.

"That still helps." Aqua said. "I guess we can use all the help we can get these days. So... thanks?"
With public opinion of the police force so low... It was hard to get things done in a way the public approved of. Particularly when everything they did was so critically analyzed. She was just glad the grey dawn situation had turned out as well as it had. There were so many ways that could have blown up in their face. And the city. The impact of that alone would have been devastating. It had been such a relief to have that over with and taken care of.
"I could always ask?" Aqua asked. "I'm... going to go see the Court for the first time... There's been some things that have happened that I hope they can help with."
Aqua was fairly certain the courts liked to stay 'human-free' but who knows? They might have changed since her father left? Or they'd make an exception if Aqua vouched for her?

Red smiled. "So you a cop then. Thank yeh fer all ya do, Aqua" Red told her gratefully. "We need more cops ta protect an the cops are so unappreciated so thank ya dear" Red shook her head. "Nah. Fae don' like humans much fer th most part. I don' want to impose an cause disquiet in th court just cuz I wanna go lookit it" Naveen nodded.
"The Seelie Court also isn't fans of humans who are tainted by death. Red would never be allowed even if they allowed humans"
Red shrugged. "Sad but true. Thanks fer th offer though darlin"

"It's not that we don't like them," Aqua said hurriedly, trying to dispel any faery 'prejudices against humans' "Humans just use too much iron for some of us to stand being around."
Seelie faeries helped humans out a lot. But it was a long time ago, when they used to co-exist in peace. Then humans grew afraid. It had reached a point where when faeries tried to help humans, they were attacked, especially during medieval times, then during the modern and industrial era, iron became a fixture in day to day human life. Most faeries were trying to avoid being hurt. Which was why they were reluctant to be around humans and the instruments that could literally cause them the most painful death. After the fear settled in, faeries secluded themselves, cut off all means of transportation between the realms until the Black War. The Courts sent representatives, to reach out to the humans and try to defend them from other scarier beings, just like they did a long time ago.
"Tainted by death?" she asked. "Then what if... could a faery be...?"
If they didn't like humans like that, what did it mean for her? It seemed that wherever she went, death followed. Which was why she was so determined to save Riku, help Sunshine and get through to Shadow, if she could. She couldn't lose anyone else. She was already in a constant state of pain because of who she had lost already, but to add more to that? She didn't think she would be able to take it. But she was also afraid of Red's answer.

"I know at least some a ya don' like humans. Don't mean you don't, but I understand their reasonin. I didn't like my fellow man for a long time. It's fine" Humans were war-mongers and industrialists. Many humans could be and often were outright cruel. Especially to things that were different from what they believed to be normal. "Unseelie are often tainted by death" she stated. "Or so I heard. But if yer Seelie ya should be fine. Bad luck ain't th' same thing as bein tainted by death" The young woman must have seen quite a lot of bad luck if she was worried about a faery being tainted by death.

"It's... not always easy to see good in them," Aqua admitted slowly.
She wanted to believe in good humans. But after Grey Dawn, it was starting to become a little harder. That and after her parents died, she was in an orphanage. The first head of the orphanage was a lamia but she was murdered. The other head after that was a bitter human who disliked Others. He hadn't really prioritized homing Others. Aqua had very few interviews with very few parents who wanted an Other as a child. Seelie or not.
"I don't really know much about the Unseelie Court. Or any of the Courts for that matter. I've never been there. My father... was Unseelie. And my mother was Seelie." she said. "They passed away... That's why I thought... That I might be bad luck."

"No. It ain't. Easy ta hate humans. Tha's why I prefer Otha's. They seem to be more of what Humans ain't" She said. Her own family had chased her out. And even before then they'd always loved her brother best. She'd been mostly forgotten and left to do her own thing, prompting her to try a summon at an exceptionally young age, which resulted in her meeting her first and primarily only friend Naveen. And then humans had killed her fiance. No, Red could happily live in a world without other humans. Red patted the young fae's leg and nodded sympathetically. "You got a dual thing goin on there, but I doubt you're bad luck. Just not knowin how to channel your unseelie side is what I think. Soon as you find a way to let it out, it'll do ya good an things'll start goin betta fo ya"

"I..."
Then she let it drop. She didn't want to hate humans. She didn't want to hate anyone. She supposed it was something that was brought by living among humans. She could find it so easy to hate. She hated Vanitas. She had loved Terra but at the same time, she hated him, for what he did to her and to others. How he had betrayed her. Humans like Sunshine and Riku made it easier, but she still found it easier to hate. Red was human too and she found it difficult to like her own species.
"I don't know. My parents didn't say a word about halflings like me." she said. "I thought that I only brought good luck, but recently... I'm not so sure it's that simple."

"Course it ain't that simple" Red said with a wave of her hand. "You ain't just one o th otha. Yer both. Ya might be a luck charm, but remember, bad luck falls under that too. You might have good and bad warrin within ya. Now's th' question; which one do ya wanna pay attention to an which one do ya wanna manage an control?" she asked with a shrewd look. Naveen nodded above her head.
"Humans are like that too. Having both good and bad inside them. They aren't defined by one thing. Neither are you. You have a choice what and who you want to be. Use that choice wisely"

"I'm Seelie," Aqua answered. "So good."
There was no other option for her. Seelie magic was all she had ever learned in her life, all she had ever known. She didn't think that she could become Unseelie. Unless she was causing unintentional Unseelie events but that was a topic she didn't want to touch with a twenty foot pole. She didn't cause people to die. Terra's disappearance was linked to Vanitas and partially because of Terra's own bad decisions. Then her parents had died in a car accident. A drunk driver ran them off the road or so the accident report went. A hit and run. Terrible since the iron had literally burnt her parents - something she didn't like to think about.
"I guess that's what makes humans such fascinating creatures." Aqua said. "Because they choose one or the other."

"Are you though? Or are you both?" Red asked. "Sounds like you need to learn what being a Halfling means and what your Unseelie blood gives you in terms of powers. It's your own life, learn more about it" she didn't mean to be so harsh, she honestly didn't, but sometimes people needed a little push in the right direction and she could feel maybe Aqua needed one now.
"Humans can do such great things with our choices. Sometimes terrible, sometimes beautiful, but always great" Red responded with a nod. "And I'm sure so can you"

"I can ask when I go to the Seelie Court." Aqua said. "They'll know if I inherited my dad's powers or not."
Aqua was certain that she only got her mother's powers. But the Seelie Queen herself would be able to tell her otherwise. And if she asked for permission to enter the court and the Unseelie King arrived, then that would be answer enough for her. She didn't want to argue with Red about her powers or her ability to 'do good' or 'do bad' because of choices. She already beat herself up enough when she second guessed herself.
"But I guess Others aren't any better if we have a special force just to go after them." Aqua said. "But... you helped with the Sapien bust. You're not a cop though... So freelance?"
Vanitas. Thrax. Chat Noir. All of them were criminals. All Others who used their powers to break the law had to be stopped. Same went for crazy humans with absurd plans to eliminate all Others. The police had to work hard to keep up with the people who used their powers for their own gain.

"Sounds good darlin" that was a good enough answer for Red. There was nothing else to do really, so there's that. "Othas have the ability to do more, when they want an where they want. Don't tell me it wouldn't go to a less fortunate you's head" Red said with a faint smile. Red shrugged. "Bounty Hunta. So I s'pose freelance of a sort. I'm still findin my feet in this city"

Aqua supposed the 'less fortunate' would turn to crime. The city had poor laws in place to protect them from falling below the poverty line. And in a city where being Other or a gifted Human was looked at as a stigma, things could be hard. But when those crimes turned from petty to felony the line crossed and blurred. Pick pocketing was one thing, but assault? Murder? Take Vanitas for example. He had escalated from possession to assault and maybe even murder. There was no cooling off period for him. No regret. No remorse.
"I might not be able to help much, but let me know if you need help settling in." Aqua offered.
