Omar was getting ready for his set tonight, the bar already getting filled with early patrons. He sat on a stool as he tuned his guitar, tongue stuck between his teeth as he strummed and adjusted the pegs accordingly. He tapped his foot to his tune and nodded his head in time. He loved music, pracically lived and breathed on it. He was loving this tune, but he’d let the people in the bar decide if it was a good tune or not. His eyes drifted over the incoming crowd and he noticed a blue head. He set his guitar down and hopped off the stage.
“Dude, where ya goin?”
Omar waved backwards at his band.
“Just start playin covers without me. You don’t need me for every single song. Play those first. I’ll be a bit”
“You’ve got sixteen minutes, man”
Omar slipped in beside the blue haired fairy and gave her a smile. “Hey. Been awhile, Officer Malone. Were you afraid I’d start another bar fight if you walked in here with me around?”

After a long long day, Aqua really needed to do something to relax. Getting back to work after her little 'vacation' to the Seelie Realm was a bit overwhelming. There was a lot of paperwork to catch up on. She spent most of the day bound to her desk, hence, not wanting to go home just yet because she knew she would only sleep if she did. Getting drinks sounded nice, and it was a step outside of the norm for her. She ordered something sweet and waited for the bartender to bring it back for her. She was so caught up in her thoughts, she didn't realize someone had stepped up beside her.
"Huh? W-What? No. Nothing like that." she said quickly. "I am allowed to get drinks aren't I? I didn't know you were performing tonight."

He laughed, not unkindly. "Nah, it's cool. Why don't you stick around and listen to some of my music? I don't recall you ever listening to my stuff before. You just came to clean up the mess after that one time" He scratched the back of his head and looked beside her. The seat was empty. "I've got a few minutes, care if I sit by you and talk or...?"

"Maybe for a song?" she said a bit uncertainly. "And I only had to clean up because of Vanitas."
She hadn't exactly made a habit of going to the bar to listen to music, or going to the bar in general. The music part she didn't mind so much. It was the bar that was the double edge sword. She had tried to stay away from alcohol for the last few years because she didn't want to develop a habit because of Terra's disappearance and now his death. Plus, Namine didn't like it when people drank. With good reason. Aqua liked to respect her roommate's wishes. So one glass and she was done for the night.
"Oh, no, you can stay if you like."
She did give Omar a considering look. She had thought for sure that Omar hated her guts because she arrested him and Vanitas that night. He hadn't exactly been the most friendly when she had him at the holding cells. But then again, he had helped Namine ease up, even if she was still a stuttering mess, she was at least going back to work. Aqua made sure they worked the same shifts so she could take the blonde home. If not, she had someone drive her home. No more of the late night walks alone for the little blonde. And Aqua was glad that Omar had watched after Namine while she was away, so he couldn't be entirely bad. This was too confusing for her so when her beverage arrived she took a hearty drink.

"Song sounds good" He agreed with a smile. He shrugged. "I let him get under my skin. You cleaned up because of both of us" this was true and after giving it some good thought he wasn't afraid to admit it. And he wasn't so angry anymore at Aqua. Just at Vanitas and himself. "Cool" he sat down and looked at her. She was quite distinctive with her blue hair. "Hey now, no need to gulp it. Take sips so you don't give yourself a migraine and stuff" he cautioned as she took a big drink of her alcohol. "Slow and steady leads to less severe hangovers" he smiled.

"You wouldn't be the first," Aqua replied dryly.
This certainly wasn't how she expected the night to go. She expected to have her drink, maybe talk a bit with the bartender and head home. Not a very exciting life, but she had felt so drained and weary lately, it's all she could manage. Her social life was saved for lunch breaks and occasional coffee stops at Nevermore. Her social life went out the door when Terra left. She was slowly coming to terms with things, slowly taking her life back, but it was small steps.
"Relax," Aqua laughed. "I can handle my drink you know. I'm only having the one."

"Obviously. With everything that little brat's done, I don't expect many people are his fans" Omar remarked equally dryly. "Sorry, sorry. I'm just protective. It's in my nature. I see most people and I snap into protector mode. It's the worse with kids. I instantly hone in on them and see if their family life is any good. I've...got into some minor trouble with that" he laughed a little. "The parents were okay with it after we talked. They resolved to be better at their job" The parents had just assumed the kid had run away again, not that their kid was crashing at a troll's apartment. It had all worked out as far as Omar knew. "So, drinking to celebrate or drinking to unwind? you look stressed out there"

"It's okay. Thank you for looking out for those kids... And well, Namine I guess." Aqua said. "I don't know what you said, but she's been doing better lately. I was able to get her to go to therapist to talk about what happened."
It was a little weird to have him trying to monitor her health or tell her what to do in order to better protect herself from a hangover. But if it was natural to him, she didn't see why she should tell him to stop. It was like telling her to stop doing 'nice' things because she was Seelie. She had stepped on too many toes because she didn't understand other species so she was wasn't going to question anything anymore. Too many headaches.
"It's a bit of both." Aqua admitted. "Things at work have been... Well, it's work. So no surprise there. But it sounds like you keep yourself busy with the kids you help."

"I offered to adopt her" He said with a shrug. "Surprised she hasn't said anything. She was over the moon when I offered. I'm gonna do it proper too, gonna get a lawyer and ask about adopting an adult. Pretty sure my daughter's gonna be fine with it. She likes Namine" He shrugged. "I'm also worried bout ya because Namine likes ya and so you must be worth protecting" and like he'd said before, protecting was as natural as breathing to something like him. "Work is work" he agreed, nodding. "Eh, I keep an eye on the street kids mainly. Try to help Yang and her group where I can. Or I used to. Glad they got places of their own now"

"No wonder..." Aqua murmured. "I think... That's probably the best thing to happen for her."
Aqua knew about how Namine's father was. She was the one to help Namine get a restraining order back when she and Terra worked the case. The man had been in prison and luckily had been caught just as quickly during the prison riots. One of the first rounded back up, much to Aqua's relief. Otherwise, Namine's heart probably would have given out. The blonde was on edge as it was.
"Worth... protecting? Don't be silly."
That brought a bit of color to her cheeks. She wasn't a little kid. Omar probably wasn't insinuating that she was one. Aqua simply didn't want to touch the topic of her protection with a twenty foot pole. It dredged up too many bad things. She didn't want to ruin a good mood with bad memories.
"Still... It seems no matter how hard I try, someone's case always slips through my fingers. It's good to know there's someone out there looking out for the little people." she said.

"She was so happy. And I already look at her as one of my own so I figured making it real wouldn't be a bad thing, if it helped her" It seemed to have given the little blond a boost in self confidence, though maybe not as much as Omar was expecting. She was getting out now though, which was something. "You're a good person. Totally worth protecting" he said shrugging. Plus trolls usually ended up as servants to fae. It was hard not falling into habit around Aqua. "It's like a hydra. Finish off one head and ten more appear" He said with a sigh. "I always try to protect the people of the city" Even when the cops wouldn't, Omar was always there taking care of the people left behind in the dust. Omar turned to the stage and rubbed his hands. "I gotta do some songs, but we can talk more after? You reminded me of a song I've been practicing, maybe I'll play it tonight" he shot her a smile and a thumbs up before making it back to the stage.

"It helped. Trust me." Aqua confirmed.
Namine could leave the house for the first time since her incident. Nearly three weeks. She was lucky that the Unit had argued for her time off when the chief himself wanted to let her go. To Namine, the art job with the BPD was the world, so her coworkers were't going to let that get taken from her. However, Omar's comment about her protection again, almost made her choke in her drink. She managed a subdued smile.
"No rest for the wicked." she replied.
They worked hard. Her job was a thankless one. She would never make anyone happy, going on the way she did. She would finish a case, but then someone would be unhappy because another case hadn't been solved and there were still new cases opening every day. The Unit was so small, there simple wasn't enough hours in the day or officers to cover the entire city.
"Sure." she said. "I'll be here."

Omar walked to the stage and hopped up, grabbing his guitar again and nodding to his band. He walked to his mike and looked out over the crowd. "Alright guys. We're gonna continue this party with a slow one and then speed things up with some rock, how does that sound?" there was cheering and Omar grinned and nodded. "Right. This one's directed to my new friend Aqua and her lovely electric indigo hair! Unsurprisingly, it's called Electric Indigo" Scattered laughter and applause and Omar strummed his electric guitar and tapped his foot as he waited for his part to sing. He then let Sinbad take over the guitar and started singing, practically crooning the words into the mike.
"Never meant to cause you trouble with my coloured lies But you're holding me with something locked behind your eyes And I've been waiting for it all to take control You're setting me right Cause you've got something that I need Something I can't find
Distance never made me stronger it tore us apart And I know I left you questions and a lonely heart But you've been waiting long enough to let it go I'll do you right Cause time is just a remedy Covered in disguise
And all I know Is that I want you so Heavy on my mind And the feeling grows When you're dancing slow I see your fire go Electric Indigo...."
He let Kitty and Sinbad take over singing the final chorus of "what's it gonna, what's it gonna take?" before singling out Aqua and smiling as he sang the last part of the song again before ending it. "Alright folks, what do you think? We gonna rock the rest of the night or we gonna continue to take things slow?"

Aqua smiled when Omar went to take the stage. She supposed he wasn't half bad when he wasn't fighting demons or having bottles smashed over his head. Though that thought went out the window when he directly called her out in his song announcement. She sat rigid in her seat, absolutely mortified. She could feel her face growing hot and she ducked her head, hoping no one would be looking at her. Hard not to when her hair was the color it was.
And then there was the song! He said it had been a song he had been practicing but you didn't just practice a song like that without a reason. If she hadn't told him she would be there when he got back, she might have fled from the bar and vowed to avoid him for the rest of her life. She didn't want to think about the lyrics or the way that Omar's voice had gotten soft as he sang. It was just a song. He had been practicing it before he met her. It was just her hair that inspired it being sang tonight. She looked down at her drink. If Namine didn't have such an aversion to drinking, Aqua would have gone home plastered.
As the song ended, Aqua forced herself to look back up at the stage. Omar was looking right at her. Shyly she looked away.

Whoops. Seems he overdid it. In truth he'd practiced the song because it reminded him of his relationship with Jane. Maybe he didn't want her romantically but he wanted her as his daughter again .Yes they were reconnecting but he wanted more, he wanted to rekindle the special relationship they had when she was a little girl. He probably would never be able to. It had just been Aqua's hair that reminded him of the song at all.
Omar turned to his band and said the name of the next song as he picked up his guitar. When they nodded in confirmation he turned to the mike. "For all you rockers out there, this one's for you!" there was loud cheering as he started singing.
