To say that Weiss had become even more of a recluse than usual was a bit of an understatement. It wasn't just that she hardly left the house anymore. She hardly left her room. Apparently, her parents didn't understand the concept of trauma and figured that she should be over what happened between her and Thrax by now. Of course, it wasn't entirely their fault. Weiss hadn't told anyone about how she had practically lost control, or the dark spirits she had ended up summoning. Finally, her parents had practically shoved her out the front door, telling her to get some fresh air and maybe buy something for herself. Which was why, on a sunny afternoon, Weiss was seated at a bench in the park with a new book she had bought. She wasn't entirely interested in it, but by this point, she knew she had to please her parents. She knew they were still a little miffed at her for trying to take Thrax on her own. Which was why she had neglected to tell them that the shadow spirits she had summoned were still hanging around her, and had been ever since Mardi Gras.
They weren't there 24/7, but Weiss noticed them whenever they appeared. They always hung around dark places, or popped out of the shadows of whatever was nearby. Other people didn't seem to notice them, and if they did, it was only slight movement they caught in the corner of their eye. They liked Weiss's room the best, and tended to hang around there the most. Weiss had no idea what they wanted, and at this point, she didn't really care. She just hoped that if she ignored them long enough, they would go away. If she told anybody, they'd just get mad and bring up again why she was dumb for going after Thrax. She had to handle this on her own. Of course, that was easier said than done. Even now, she could see them hanging around the shadow casted by the bench she was sitting on. They bared their teeth at her in a grin, showed off their claws. Weiss frowned and tried to focus on her book. Couldn't these things take a hint?

Apparently Raoul Park was the only place safe from crawling criminals. A spring day like this was the one place a baker slash cop could catch some silence. Sunshine swiped a blonde hair from her eyes, showing signs of sleep deprivation. Someone would say she needed a coffee, but how could anyone sleep when the Devil himself had looked into her? What did he see?
With a flustered sigh, she turned a corner to the closest bench,..and saw she wasn't alone. Weiss Lafayette was sitting with a book, looking...irritated.
Sunshine hadn't talked to Riku about his family, but just seeing her face wrote itself.

Weiss could hear somebody approaching, but for the moment, she chose to ignore them. As usual, the shadow spirits hid as soon as they saw another person approaching. For some reason, they didn't like anyone who wasn't Weiss. They were almost like pets in that since, like a dog or a cat that was only loyal to you. Weiss didn't want pets like these, though. Shadows spirits were never good. She just couldn't figure out how to make them go away. However, as she tried to focus on her book again, she noticed that the stranger's feet weren't moving. She looked up to see a young woman looking at her. "You need something?" she asked curtly. Odds were, it was probably some stranger wondering why the youngest LaFayette child had been out of the public eye for so long. When your family was famous, questions like that tended to be asked. It bothered Weiss's parents a lot. The last thing they wanted was for the media to think their daughter was some sort of hermit.

'What? Just sitting down is suddenly a crime?" Sunshine retorted. Something rustled in the leaves, but she didn't even bother noticing. She just fought a yawn and rubbed her eyes. Rushing and arresting criminals with a rabbit cop for your temporary partner while the other was hospitalized didn't exactly do well on teh body. If those things wanted a fight, they would have put one up. Instead, she just let them go to Weiss. "Sorry," Sunshine said again, rubbing the sleep from her eyes again. "Haven't been able to get much sleep these few days is all. I'll...uh...just..." she stepped back.

Weiss was actually surprised to get a retort that had sounded as angry as her question. Of course, that just flared her temper even more, but the woman soon apologized, claiming that she hadn't gotten a lot of sleep lately. Weiss could still feel an angry response worming its way up inside her, but instead, she just let out a long breath. Getting into a fight wouldn't solve her problems now. Besides, her parents would probably get mad at her if she did. She didn't want to piss them off anymore than she already had. "Join the club," she said, not quite as curt as before. She hadn't been sleeping well either. The shadow spirits hung around sometimes, creeping under her bed or on the walls. She still had dreams about her fight with Thrax, and sometimes her imagination liked to play out all the things that could have gone wrong. Thinking about what could have been was almost as bad as thinking about what actually happened. The only physical injury Weiss had gotten was the scar on her face. She could have just as easily gotten an eye slashed out, or an arm cut off like that girl Yang. Things could have ended so much worse. She felt that if she kept telling herself that, she might actually feel better.

The low huff in Sunshine's direction was the only answer she got for what had happened. Weiss' blue eyes - the left one marred by a small scar, fresh from something, but she didn't want to ask and plus, making an awkward first impression with her crush's younger sister was a bit...much - spoke everything that wasn't being said. Sunshine ran a hand against one of her blonde locks, a sheepish smile crossing. Of course, the smile looked a bit more like a grimace, ut she was trying to make n effort. "...So....what are you reading?"

The woman soon changed the topic, asking what Weiss was reading. It looked like she had forgiven her for being snappy earlier. At the very least, she was still talking to her, so she couldn't be too pissed off. "The Fault in Our Stars," she replied, holding it up so the woman could see the cover. "Apparently, teenagers really love this book. I don't know, though. Seems awfully...sappy." Weiss figured reading something other than a voodoo book might please her parents. Really, she had just grabbed the first book she had seen under the Bestseller section of the Young Adult part of the bookstore and hoped for the best. At the very least, her parents might be happy that she was reading something different for a change.

"Oh, that book?" Sunshine shrugged. She had heard of the title, but never really bothered to pick it up. A romance doomed since they meet? No, thank you. She preferred her romances in the, well, cliched way; meeting with guns blazing before lowering defensives and learning a bit more about each other. That, in a strange way, was the story of her life. Whoever she met made her put up a wall out of mistrust or fear, but she broke it down eventually to try and let some happiness in. "Yeah, I heard it was sappy." She plopped down next to Weiss. "Just because a percentage of teens liked it doesn't mean it's for everyone. When I was your age, I was reading stuff like Snow Child. You know, more obscure reads."

The woman didn't seem terribly impressed by the book either. Weiss had never heard of Snow Child, but she figured that it fitted with the woman's love of more obscure books. "I guess I've always liked the nonfiction stuff," she said as she closed the book. "History, magic, that sort of thing." Those were the majority of books that made up Weiss's library at home. Most of them either dealt with voodoo magic or talked about the history of witch doctors. If she was going to be the voodoo queen someday, she'd have to know all this stuff like the back of her hand. At least, that was how she felt it should be. It had been drilled early on into Weiss's head that this family had to be the best at everything they did. And the same was applied to her voodoo practices.

Sunshine nodded. Some people preferred nonfiction to fictional works. She could relate, with her bookshelf at her flat being filled with crafts, art guides, and cookbooks. Weiss' reputation as a voodoo priestess probably impacted how she lived her life. Sunshine couldn't be mean about it, though.

The woman gave a nod, which Weiss figured was a good sign. Maybe she had some of her own books that were like that? Most people tended to think history was boring, but Weiss felt like it was important. You could learn so much just from seeing what people long ago did. Voodoo was much like that. Some techniques for making potions or voodoo dolls had been passed down for hundreds of years. Weiss wondered if she could find anything about making her shadow spirits leave her alone. But, she decided to switch to a different topic. "I don't think I know your name," she said. "I'm Weiss, but you probably already knew that." Most people could recognize Weiss just from her face alone, even though it had a scar on it now. Weiss knew it was a silly thing to be self-conscious about, but she felt it all the same. She felt like the scar was constant reminder of what she tried to do, and how she had nearly failed. She had been in way over her head, and had been lucky not to have gotten killed.

"...Sunshine Seddon." After the very insulting opinion of Jane, it was probably best to leave out the 'police' part of her introduction. Weiss' opinion of the police was...well...evident in every conversation she had with Riku. How she was annoyed with him for changing sides and so on. If she was going to get along with this girl, some things were probably better left unsaid. That and pressuring the high up name wasn't fair, not because sher mother taught that lesson to her, but it was something showed to her on the job; Adrien broke the mold by sneaking out as a cat burglar to assist the needy in Bellerouge that the Others Unit couldn;t reach in time.

"Sunshine. How...unique." Personally, Weiss thought it was a bit weird, but this was a city full of supernatural creatures and people with powers. Odd names kind of came with the territory. And, to be fair, her own name literally meant "white." She didn't have too much room to criticize. Although the name "Sunshine" did seem to match the woman's striking yellow hair. It was literally the color of the sun. Weiss wondered if it was natural or if she wore hair extensions.

"Well...my real name's Rachel. But ever since I was little, everyone called me it so...it...kind of stuck." A nervous giggle came out of Sunshine's confession. Her cheeks were flushing pink. Her real name was something only close friends and family knew. To tell a voodoo heiress...intimidating, and she arrested we're, demons, and vampires for a living

Oh, so that explained it. Rachel was much more regular-sounding name. Although, in a way, Sunshine seemed to fit a bit more. And it wasn't just because of Sunshine's hair color. She just seemed...a happy person. Just a moment ago, she and Weiss had been snapping at each other. Now, she was smiling a little, even laughing, albeit nervously. Weiss had never really known anybody like that. Her parents were only happy when things were going their way. If they weren't, they got mad, and sometimes took it out on whoever was nearby. Riku had always been the serious type, only letting his guard down around people he trusted. Elsa was much the same way. Adrien...he put on a happy face, but Weiss knew his home life wasn't that great. Meeting genuinely positive people didn't happen to Weiss very often. "Well, I guess the nickname fits," she said, giving a little smile.
