Aqua had to fight back a laugh. It wasn't funny. Nothing about the situation was funny, but if Weiss thought that she and Riku expect to just whisk her away without a fight from her parents, she was mistaken. They were expecting one. Aqua didn't have to be Riku's partner to know that he would fight the entire city if it meant saving Weiss from something. It was killing him to know that Weiss was hurting and upset. Not to mention, Weiss was probably the only one in the city who was actually livid with Riku for his decisions.
"No one said this was going to be easy!" Aqua replied. "Sure. Your parents aren't going to want to let go of you, but we'll make them."
Riku and Weiss were hurting. Aqua wanted desperately to fix it, but when the puzzle pieces didn't fit, she was starting to grow concerned. Could this ever be fixed? Weiss seemed intent to hate Riku. Then Riku, in turn, seemed resigned to have Weiss hate him for the rest of his days. She wanted to take them and shake them both until their teeth rattled.

"Weiss, sissy, I know I'm going to fight for you. I know it's going to be hard. But I'm willing if you are" He'd hire Elsa, he'd find proof of his parents being negligent. He'd do everything he could to get his sister to be with him. "I'm going to make sure Mom and dad don't win. I've got money to get a good lawyer. They aren't going to have their way. Not this time"

Weiss sighed. Aqua and Riku seemed so optimistic that they could win this if they tried hard enough, like in the movies where the good guys always won. But life was never like the movies. Weiss already knew that much. If it was, she wouldn't have experienced so many horrible things by the time she was a teenager. Moving out would be good, especially if Riku seemed pretty confident that she could still be the next Voodoo Queen if she wanted. But actually doing it seemed more like a fairy tale than a possibility. "You're asking me to put a lot of faith in you. You know that, right?" she asked, looking up. "I don't want to get my hopes up, then have them blown away." Really, that was what she feared the most. She would hate to finally be optimistic about things, then have her hopes dashed before her eyes. She wasn't sure if she could recover from something like that.

"Aren't we the adults here?" Aqua asked. "Let us worry about consequences."
Weiss trusted Riku once. It was difficult to ask it again especially after Riku left, but Aqua had high hopes. Weiss seemed a little calmer. She had been teary eyed earlier and that had almost made the faery jolt. But she couldn't force this. Her eyes flicked between the two humans. Dinner wasn't exactly going swimmingly, but she hadn't honestly expected hugs and absolute forgiveness the first time either. Plus, she did lure them both there under semi-false pretenses.
"Besides, if we don't try, you'll never know. You'll wonder what if for the rest of your life."
In Aqua's mind, there was nothing worse than What if. What if this had turned out differently? What if she had done this instead of that? What if? What if? What if? It rattled around in your mind, wore you down. No. She wanted to save them from the what ifs. At least the good ones.

"What Aqua said. I'm willing to fight. I'm expecting a fight. But I need you to try to trust me again" He'd do anything and everything in his power to get his sister safe. Safe and by his side once more. "We have to at least try to get you away from our parents. They don't deserve to raise you" He took a deep breath. "I don't know if I do either, but I want to at least get you away from them. Please, let me help you"

Weiss bit her lip. Trust wasn't something she gave out lightly. She'd already been hurt by Riku once. She wasn't sure what she'd do if it happened again. But he seemed so convinced that he could do this. Or, at the very least, he'd never stop trying. That was enough evidence to show that he cared about her. But just because he cared didn't mean that he had any hope when going up against her parents. They could get a lot of things down by throwing money at people. In a way, they were like the gangsters and other criminals around here that got arrested plenty of times, but never convicted. What if the same happened here? Riku seemed pretty determined though, as did Aqua. Maybe they could at least try, and see where they ended up. She gave a sigh before saying "I guess I can't stop you from trying." She still wasn't optimistic about the outcomes, but Riku and Aqua could plow away at it if they wanted. She wouldn't try to stop them.

Tension seemed to be dying down, but Aqua was still conflicted. No tears. She didn't know how to bring them forth. They almost had it earlier but too little too late. Making someone cry was not something she made a habit of. Weiss was the person who had the most reason to be angry with Riku, so it was only logical that Aqua bring them both together. She looked between the two siblings. It wasn't quite forgiveness between the two of them. But they would get there, someday.
"Nope. You can't." Aqua confirmed. "So if you ever need a break from your parents' house, you can come here. I can have a key made."
She already had Namine living with her. What was one more...? Actually she had been having quite a few house guests lately. Omar had a key. Jane had a key. If she gave Weiss and Riku a key... She shook her head. It was a wonder she hadn't become a therapist.
"So where do we start?"

"I'll keep trying till I win" Riku said with a smile. "Yes. Come here. It's a safe place you can relax in. I believe another girl lives here too and from what I understand she's a sweetheart. You'll be in good company here" He smiled at his sister and then actually began eating. By this time it was cold but it wasn't bad. "Well, we can start with talk of negligence. Mom and dad care more about their parties than us. Always have. If we can prove that their negligence badly affects my sister, then we can get a foot in the door"

Aqua and Riku seemed pretty relieved that Weiss had agreed to this. Weiss still wasn't sure how much faith she could put into this, though. She tended to avoid doing stuff like that, because if her hopes were crushed, she could be devastated. She picked at her food as Aqua and Riku talked, trying to figure out a way they could get a case started. Weiss wasn't sure what angle they could come from, though. Her parents could probably come up with an excuse for anything they could come up with. She could picture her mother saying how Weiss always seemed eager to talk to guests, and was always excited for her birthday party. Heck, her 17th one was already being planned, despite it being weeks away. Weiss wasn't sure how great it would be, though. This was one party she wasn't enthusiastic for. She didn't exactly have many friends to invite, and her parents certainly weren't going to let Riku in. And her mood had been so down lately. The whole thing seemed rather pointless.

"Don't worry Weiss. We'll take care of everything." Aqua said. "You're better off with us than them."
She the worst feeling about this. Like she had just put her foot in her mouth. But she had to get Weiss upset. There was no other way around it. The saying 'breaking a few eggs to make an omelette' came to mind, but Aqua still felt like she was starting to cross some sort of line. If they called Weiss to the stand and she backed out, saying that her parents weren't that bad, then Riku would be the one in hot water. His career would be not be salvageable. He would throw it all away for Weiss. Aqua didn't want that to happen. But if their parents really were as bad as they were saying, Aqua didn't want Weiss to stay with them either.

"Weiss, our parents are monsters. I'm not letting them hurt you the way..." he paused and his ears drooped. "They are responsible for so much darkness in my life Weiss. I don't want you facing what I did" He was being truthful. Stuff had happened to him that Weiss had been too young to remember at the time. And this stuff he'd never talked about. But it left him constantly battling the darkness in his own heart so he wouldn't go down that path again. A path he didn't want his little sister following him down.

Weiss was silent for a moment before she said quietly "Maybe I belong with monsters." The thought had crossed her mind again, how she had summoned those shadow spirits all on her own. Good people didn't call on dark creatures like that. Maybe she belonged with them and her parents. She didn't have a pure heart or anything mushy like that. She was far from being the good person her brother was. He tried to help others. Weiss mainly focused on herself. Hell, she hadn't set out to take on Thrax so he couldn't hurt other people or protect others from him. She had sought him out because she wanted revenge, so she could prove that she wasn't some helpless little girl. The only reason her motivation had changed was because of Yang. What did that say about her? That she only helped others when the situation was dire? What kind of person was that?

"No one belongs with monsters," Aqua said firmly. "Listen, my roommate Namine went through exactly what you guys did. Her dad is in jail now."
This hit home for her. And things had grown to be a little more complicated than she had first thought. The problem lie with the parents. Weiss and Riku were unfortunately gifted with the worst kind of parents. It's horrible for her to imagine the sort of pain that Riku - her partner - had been going through before they met. If things had changed, even just the slightest, Riku would still have been oppressed under his father's thumb. They never would have met. That alone was hard to swallow. Riku had done so much for her, so Aqua only wanted to return the favor.
"Maybe you two should hug this one out?" Aqua suggested.
Weiss looked like she would probably stab Aqua in the face with her fork if she tried. Hopefully, Riku being the older brother would give him immunity to Weiss' backlash? But Riku was the huggable sort, even before he grew his extra coat. Always friendly. Strange how to siblings could be so different.

"No, you don't" Riku said firmly. "Or I would have, too. I struggle with the darkness in my heart all the time. But I'm here and I'm happy. You can have the same thing, Weiss. You can be happy again too. We don't have to live in darkness, not ever again, okay?" He got up from the table and spread his arms hopefully, wanting to see if she'd swallow her pride and accept a hug she really needed.

Namine snorted at the idea. Her dad in jail? That'd be interesting. But was what he and her mom doing worthy of jail time? She wasn't sure. Didn't a lot of parents hit their kids around from time to time? It wasn't exactly something people got arrested for unless they left a mark. Then again, Jacques had left his mark on Weiss's mother. But it had happened so long ago. Would it even matter now? Plus, her mom was almost as bad as her dad was. She raised an eyebrow when Riku said he was happy. "Even as a rabbit?" she asked. What did it even take to lift a spell like that? The answer couldn't be too hard, could it? Regardless, Aqua and Riku seemed to think that this could all be resolved with a hug, but Weiss hesitated. She wasn't exactly enraged anymore, but all sorts of confusing feelings were whirling around inside her. All this optimism and hope and mushy stuff was making her feel guilty. She still felt like she didn't deserve any of this. If Aqua and Riku knew what she was doing, and that the shadow spirits lurking even now near the apartment were hers, they probably wouldn't be so kind. And she had been angry at Riku for so long, it was hard to just let it all go in the course of a single evening. "This is...this is too much," she said. "I feel...confused."
