"Sure."
Anna smiled warmly at Elsa, her expression no different then usual. However, she wasn't hungry in the slightest and merely agreed so that her truer feelings didn't display themselves. She was angry all right and annoyed as well but she wasn't about to let Elsa know that. Far better to pretend her words hadn't effected her in that way. If she simply acted her normal upbeat, friendly and carefree self then there was no need for the young lawyer to suspect that she had bigger plans for the notes then reading through them.
And despite her current negative feelings, she hadn't lied to Elsa. No, she was merely withholding some information.
"Really, Elsa. You worry too much. About the only thing that I experiment with is my cooking."

"Anna, if I gave you the notes like a trick-or-treater, both you and I could be in big trouble."
Elsa's blue eyes reflected the seriousness of the matter. With Thrax and several criminals out, she was being extra careful on who to give the evidence to. Heck, even that strange floating eye that Shadow had shot could return. If that information was seen by someone who would use it for evil, unlike Anna who wanted to use it for science, a threat far worse than Thrax could be looming on the horizon. Anna could be mad at her all she wanted, Elsa was both doing her job and keeping a well-liked member of the BPD safe.
"I've got your favorite...chocolate fondue..."
Use a weakness to get them onto common ground. It was thinking ike a cop, and she was impressed she could do that herself. With a tilt of her head and a smri, she led Anna inside, shutting the door behind her. "As for your cooking,I'm surprised you weren't the one who invented the turducken."

Anna remained silent at Elsa's words about both of them getting into trouble, but she tried to look excited at the prospect of the chocolate fondue the lawyer was offering.
"You know me too well, Elsa."
She continued to smile openly as she followed Elsa further into the house and back towards the kitchen. It was quite the impressive room and might have impressed her in other circumstances, what with her passion for cooking and baking. She quickly seated herself at the table and appeared eager for the fondue, but her mind was focused on nothing more in those moments then getting the notes. Clearly Elsa was nervous about giving them to anyone and she would have to figure out what it was that would get the snow-yielding lawyer to let her at least see them.
Telling Elsa why she wanted the notes simply wouldn't do. She would only see her idea as dangerous and report Anna to the BPD immediately. That meant she would have to convince her that she merely wanted to look at the notes for the theory and nothing more. And even in that moment, Anna knew she wouldn't let her actually take the notes with her. So that meant somehow she would need to get a copy of it....
"Fine, Elsa. You win. I won't even bother asking to take the notes, but please. Can't I just look at them? I mean, for all we know there might be something in them that could help us keep Shadow safe from that floating eyeball thing that we saw in the graveyard. After all, you heard what it said. And besides, you know me."

"What I can do is photocopy the formula for you. It'll protect the actual document. I may need it for a case."
Anna's stubbornness wasn't going down easily. She wanted that formula and Elsa had no idea why. The safest, and smartest, move was to let Anna get her hands on it. That and a photocopy could be a honest mistake cover-up should she be caught. Anna was smart enough to hide it, too. She plugged in the fondue pot and set the chocolate bars in, watching the chocolate get a sweaty sheen before rushing up to her office.
The file, wrinkled from use, sar on her desk. She leafed through the file, hunting for the professor's journal. She found it, opened it, copied the formula page, and delicately put everything back, folding up the formula in an envelope, stamping it to disguise it as something Anna would carry

Elsa seemed to teeter on the edge for a moment and Anna gave her a small smile with just the barest hint of hurt in her blue eyes, as if Elsa's lack of trust actually hurt her on a deep level and personal level.
At long last, the lawyer gave in and agreed to give Anna a copy of the notes. That was good. She didn't need the actual paperwork, only the formulas and calculations, the 'recipe' as it were, to realize her plan. Still, she wasn't so stupid as to give herself away in that moment by acting completely relieved.
Instead, she gave a small huff of annoyance and a little frown before speaking.
"Ok. I guess I shouldn't really expect more."
She watched Elsa carefully, the slightly unhappy expression still on her face as the lawyer went to copy the notebook. When she returned to the kitchen, Anna kept the look on her face of slight disappointment but inside she felt a huge rush of success. She had done it! She had the formula!
And now that she did, she could begin working on her own project, something that would in the end help make Bellerouge a safer place for everyone. However, she kept those feelings to herself and instead nodded before folding up the papers and putting them in her bag.
"Well, I can't really stay annoyed at you either way, Elsa. Not when you've got chocolate on offer!"

Elsa could tell Anna was annoyed. But the problem wasn't so much the confidence of the contents in the file, but what the scientist wanted with the formula. Yes, she wasn't making a homunculus, but she was looking for a cure. Cures that were probably created for a child sick with an ailment similar to AIDS. But Anna's excitement of it was blinding her to the dangers. She wasn't going to listen to Elsa's concerns.
"It's a fair price," she worked a genuine smile, stirring the chocolate, "I'd rather pay my colleagues in chocolate than money."

"Hey, sounds good to me!"
Now that Anna had gotten what she needed, she didn't have to force her happiness as much as she had a moment before. However, she was certain Elsa wasn't about to give up on inquiring as to why she wanted the notes so badly. It was time to bring the focus back onto the lawyer and the medical examiner had the perfect topic to do just that.
"So I know we were just joking earlier, and please don't freeze me to this chair for asking, but I'm just too curious. How are things between you and Ralph really?"
Anna didn't have to act on this one. She was genuinely curious about Elsa and her relationship with the former Giant BPD officer. Earlier she had only been joking around but the other woman's reaction to it made it abundantly clear that something was going on between them. The question now was what and how serious it was.

Well, at least the happiness Anna was exalting now didn't have an edge to it like it did in the past. The medical examiner was a "wear your heart on your sleeve" kind of person, and when upset tried to hide it underneath happiness. Elsa's obligations were both to get her to be happy and to avoid getting herself in trouble handling the case of Professor Edgar Gerald.
But the topic went back to Ralph. Elsa was about to dip the chcolate when she dropped it. The marshmallow stick sank into the depths, and she hurried to swipe it out. Luckily, she rescued the drowning sweet before it froze over. She cleared her throat, and answered.
"Mixed. Like, I want to see him again, and, well, he did say the L word...but after what happened I just...I'm afraid of making it worse."

"Why? You think he hasn't changed? Or you just don't feel like risking your friendship?"
Anna's question was to the point but there was no accussation or negative feelings in her tone. She was simply trying to understand Elsa and how she truly felt for Ralph, which wasn't easy since it was clear the lawyer herself wasn't certain of her feelings.
She took the moment of silence that followed her question to skewer a marshmallow and dip it into the melted chocolate. She quickly devoured the treat with quiet relish before returning her attention to the woman sitting across from her.
"I know you might think this sounds crazy and all, but I think you should try again. I mean, its clear enough you care about this guy and while avoiding a relationship might also avoid some pain in the future, I think you'd be far more unhappy if you didn't give it a shot."

Elsa stirred her fondue fork idly. What else could she say? Anna summed it all up in her sentence. She didn't want to ruin a good friendship if the date went sour; again. The last time she and Ralph tried to smooth it over, he had been agitated and reminded her of the fear he had given her...but he had changed...maybe.
"I'm...nervous, is all."
That was the truth. Nervous how take two would go. If she's step out of line again. No apologies could cover that up.
"It's been almost a year since I last dated..."

Anna had moved on to a piece of pineapple by that point and had just shoved the chocolate-coated fruit into her mouth at Elsa's words. Despite the fact that her cheeks resembled a chipmunk's in that moment, her look was still clearly sympathetic yet determined. She chewed for a moment and swallowed before speaking again.
"I get it, Elsa. It's hard to try a second time when something goes wrong the first time. It kinda sets the bar of what we expect to happen in our minds and nobody wants to get hurt again in the same way. Still...."
At this, Anna turned the fondue fork so that it was pointed at Elsa, her eyes intense but not unkind.
"If you don't at least give things with Ralph one more try feeling the way you do about him, I think you'll always look back on that moment with regret."

Elsa held up a hand in automatic defense. This could have come from the one time she had tried fencing and had ended up with bruises because she had chosen to keep herself open. Anna would never hurt her intentionally, though. The fondue fork was still pointed at her, even as she lowered her palm and impaled a pineapple.
"You're right."
The yellow turned brown as she turned the pineapple back and forth. A twitch caught on her lip and she smiled back at Anna,
"So...what about you? Have you been seeing any gentleman callers?"

"Nope."
Anna said this as if it were no big deal and to the young medical examiner it wasn't. Most guys found her more... unique traits simply too much to handle and it had been some time since she had been in a relationship. It didn't really bother her and she was perfectly happy with her life as it was in that moment.
However, for some reason Elsa's question caused her mind to briefly flash to Axel. The Demon bartender HAD come over for dinner but that wasn't anything to do with a relationship and everything to do with paying him back for helping her with those stalkers. They were just friends....
"I did have a guy friend over one night for dinner as a thank you, but that's it."
She gave a small shrug as she dipped another marshmallow into the chocolate but only nibbled at it this time.

The pineapple just slid out of Elsa's fingers. Instead of fruit, the metal prongs stuck into the meaty part of her finger. Wincing, she shook her hand, grateful that there wasn't a vampire in the room that wanted ice-laced blood. The good news was it didn't get in the chocolate dip or bleed over dramatically.
"You had a man over? Does...anyone else know about this?"

Anna couldn't help but stare when Elsa accidentally stabbed herself with her fondue fork, causing a bead of blood to well up on her finger. The expression of utter surprise she wore just before stabbing herself was one of completely shock and surprised.
"What?"
Was her inviting a guy friend over for dinner really that much of a shocker to the icy lawyer. Her accident with the fork would suggest yet but Anna could only continued to stare at Elsa as she spoke.
"Nooooooo... why? It's not like it matters or anything. Heck, I invite people from the BPD over all the time for dinner. Why is this any different?"
