The city was slowly patching itself together since the breakout. It was good news for civilians, but bad news for Elsa. Her halls were seemingly empty as she walked through. Every echo bounced off the halls. At least it was noise. Ice crawled from each step. Ella was busy with deliveries, and it just added to the isolation. No one wanted to talk with her.

Suddenly, the sound of knocking could be heard echoing distantly from the front door as someone rapped smartly on the wood. The knocking continued for several moments before stopping. Immediately a voice took its place, clear and feminine and speaking from behind the paneling.
"Helooooo! Elsa, you home?"
Anna stood on the threshold of Elsa's house, rocking backwards and forwards on her heels as she waited for someone to answer the door. Normally she would have talked to the young lawyer when she eventually made her way into the BPD, but what she wanted simply couldn't wait and the only person who could give it to her was Elsa.
Impatient, she waited only a few short seconds after calling through the door before starting to knock again, her knuckles subconsciously rapping out the notes to a song.

Knock knock konck. Well, ut was better to hear that than hear nothing at all. Elsa turned tactics and followed the echoing of the door being hit to the hall. The chandelier overhead was rattling, jingling pleasantly. With a breath, Elsa descended and opened the door
At the threshold, with her signature Pippi Longsticking pigtails, was Anna. Elsa managed to work a genuine smile. Anna was always a pleasant sight for sore eyes. But what esactly could Anna want from her? Just a pleasant talk? Getting out to get some ice cream to get advantage of the springtime? What? Well, best to ask. As politely as she could.
"Anna!" Well, there was that. "It's...so good to see you."

"Elsa!"
Anna practically yelled the name in jubilant greetings as the snow-wielding lawyer opened the door.
"It's so ice to see you!"
She didn't wait to see if Elsa found this pun funny or not before throwing her arms around her and giving her a hug. Despite the warm weather that had finally come to Bellerouge, she couldn't help but give a small shiver at the other woman's cooler temperature as she released her from the embrace.
"Hope I didn't drop by at a bad time or anything."

Elsa huffed. But in that huff was a trace of laughrer. Ice puns. She had heard them all in one way or another.
"Good thing I'm not known for given the cold shoulder."
There we go. Fire off a pun with another pun. Her face broke into a grin and she openly guffawed. She really let out that kind of laughter around Ralph or if she had maybe too fast of a drink. Anna wrapped her arms around her, and Elsa hugged back. Temperature must have been a factor because Anna pulled away quickly, asking if she stopped by at a bad time.
"Not really, no," Elsa answered. "Work's been slow. No one's come by except you."

"Oh really? No one? Cause I heard down at the BPD that Ralph came by and visited you not that long ago."
Anna's tone was innocent enough as she said this but she couldn't hide the grin that was threatening to split her face in that moment. Of course she knew the Giant from the short time she had worked with him at the police department but she'd mostly learned about his rather interesting relationship with Elsa through small things Shadow had said.
Normally she didn't put much stock in gossip but since it was Shadow whom she had heard this from, it certainly wasn't gossip.

Elsa's face turned the color of grapefruit. Her mouth became a perfectly rounded 'O' shape as she gaped at Anna. She blinked once before sputtering,
"That was months ago? Who told you that?"
Just asking it confirmed every thing for Anna. That yes, Ralph did come by at Christmas time. Both of them had shared mulled wassail and talked about work. Really, that was all it eas. It had been a harmless catchup after a long time away fro one another. And a make up for him saving her life when she was, in hindsight, stupid enough to go into Garcon Perdu.

"I'll never tell."
Anna said this in a somewhat singsong voice before being taken over by a fit of wild giggles at the look on Elsa's face. She couldn't recall ever seeing the lawyer blush before and now her face looked as if someone had given her cheeks a hard pinch. Honestly, the young medical examiner found it rather cute but didn't let her own feelings blind her to Elsa's embarrassment.
"Elsa, don't fret so much over it, ok? A guy came and visited you, that's great! You really need more company in your life and if Ralph is doing just that then don't worry about it!"

Elsa made a quizzical face. However, she couldn't keep the straight face for long. Her cheeks puffed and her eyes sparkled. Finally, she was laughing alongside Anna. She was blushing, but it was human. She might as well act like it was just a normal reaction. She tucked a hair behind her ear, collecting herself between happiness and contentedness.
"What, Jenna doesn't count?" she asked.

"Don't know. I never met her but if she's a friend of yours, then that's all that matters!"
At this point she had managed to get her laughter under control. Mostly she was just happy to hear that Elsa was starting to form more relationships instead of isolating herself like she used to. Being alone all the time was no way to spend your life.
"But I did have a reason for dropping by other then teasing you."
As she spoke, Anna's normally cheerful expression became more muted and a sense of seriousness fell over her.
"I wanted to ask if you still had those notes you found written by the doctor involved on the....homunculus project."

When Anna became serious, that was nothing to laugh at. Often times, that expression spelled out important deaths. Worse, it could spell out a theory being proven wrong. Elsa's face fell from humor, and she repeated Anna's request,
"The Project Shadow notes?"
Why would Anna want a diary and a formula that was ten years old?

"Yes."
Anna had hoped she wouldn't have to explain why she wanted to have the notes. She hated lying even when it was a small thing or was for a good purpose. However, one look at Elsa's equally serious expression told her that the lawyer wanted an explanation and simply hadn't asked yet. The medical examiner tried to beat her to the punch.
"I think some useful information might be gleaned from those notes. The formulas are incomplete and dated but the science behind them is as good as ever and I'm curious to see if something good could be learned from them."
The words, while not a lie, were not the full truth either. However, Anna pushed her feelings of discomfort at withholding the truth from Elsa and instead gave her another large smile. It was just as real and convincing as every smile she had ever given the lawyer before and no one would have guessed the thoughts going on behind her face in those moments.
"I guess you could just say I'm curious. That's all."

Elsa hesitated. Anna was up to something, she just didn't want to say what. There was one problem; the notes were needed if someone had the idea to sue Shadiw for the collateral damage caused by his rage.
"Anna, this curiosity you have about it is dangerous. Do you even know what happened in the lab? No one does! You're playing with fire. What if you study it and try the very thing that got so many innocent people killed."
Maria Gerald being the most shocking causality. She would have died from her illness, but to be shot by scared government agents..that was the worst anyone that young would have to die.

"What? You think I'm going to try and make a homunculus?"
Anna's tone was still light and teasing, but underneath it was just the barest trace of another emotion. Anger. She tried to act like Elsa's words were nothing but deep down she felt angry that she was chastising her about the danger of the notes. Anna knew how dangerous they could be, but she also know that some good could possibly come out of them if the right person came forward. And was the right person. If she just altered some of the equations and tinkered with the right variables, there was no telling what the Project Shadow notes might lead to.

"No, but..."
Anna was smart enough to avoid creating a homunculus. Especially with the crucial ingredient being out of reach without getting arrested. Or worse, costing her a job. Elsa didn't want to get Anna mad, so she tried to tread in the topic carefully.
"...do you want something to munch on while I get them? Maybe we can talk about them when they're in front of you."
