Yes! The cell walls are finally holding and these results are the best yet so far!
Anna felt a thrill of excitement race through her as she adjusted the magnification on the microscope she was looking through, giving her a clearer view of the cells under the slide. It was already late at night in Bellerouge and the BPD had grown steadily quieter as time passed, but the ambitious medical examiner showed no signs of leaving. Indeed, the tabletops around her were laden with a huge assortment of lab equipment. Test tubes and beakers containing a variety of chemicals stood like an army waiting for orders. Several computers with various charts on them stood humming softly into the silence while a Bunsen burner flamed nearby. One of the tables was cluttered with a huge collection of texts, notebooks and loose paper covered in numerous calculations.
On top of all of this sat the copied papers that Elsa had given her; the Project Shadow notes. And set against the wall just behind the notes stood several vials containing deep red liquid....
Ever since the idea had popped into her head that she might be able to transfer the powers of Others to humans and even different Others without the drawbacks, Anna had thought of little else. And when she had finally gotten a copy of the Project Shadow notes, the only known case where different Others DNA had been placed into one organism successfully and survived, she had become obsessed with the possibility.
Things had gotten so bad in Bellerouge of lately. And what had Anna been able to do it help stop it? Nothing. Before the Prison Break things had seemed better like she was really making a difference, but now it all seemed a joke. She couldn't do anything to fix Namine's fears, Yang's lost arm, the scar on Weiss's face. Heck, Anna hadn't even been able to defend herself from the human men who had stalked her. Only with Axel's help had they finally left her be.
So what could she possibly do to help make Bellerouge safe again and protect the people she cared so deeply about?
The partial notes of Project Shadow seemed to hold the answer for her. If she could find a way to give people traits from Others that would help keep them and the city safe.....
It had taken her a long time to get to this point and required some risks, but now as she looked down into the microscope at the cells that were flourishing despite their conflicting DNA she couldn't fight off the anticipation and hope building inside her! True, she hadn't told anyone what she was up to. Yes, they would think it dangerous but people were so often afraid of things they didn't understand. Ok, she had taken samples without people's permission and used BPD resources outside of her assignments. But so what?
In the end, it would all be worth it!

Dorian was a little miffed. Anna had taken control of some of his machines and had shut him out of his little workspace for the past few hours. One, he had some things to do, and two, his daughter's picture was also in there. So finally he stopped being nice and just barged in there. "Anna I understand you're busy but-what on earth are you doing?" he stared at all of the notes and books and what looked like blood and then stared at Anna. His mouth finally cracked into a half-smile. "Now what in the name of the Raven Prince are you doing little one?" he asked, blue eyes dancing in total glee. "And can I help?"

Personally, Weiss hadn't felt this nervous since she had fought Thrax. Talking with Riku was risky enough, but going to the police station itself to try and talk to him? That was like walking on the edge of a cliff with one foot on a banana peel. If her parents found out, she'd be in serious trouble. But, it had been a while since Riku's curse had broken, and she wanted to see for herself if he was doing okay. Sure, he was back to normal now, but he had been a giant bunny for a really long time. No doubt he'd needed to get used to being human again. She'd white lied at the front desk, saying that Riku was expecting her. He wasn't exactly, but he'd be happy to see her nevertheless. However, she couldn't help but feel a little curious as she passed by various rooms. She'd never been this far back into the police station before. Civilians didn't see this stuff very often. And as she passed by one room, a familiar face caught her eye. She spotted Anna, along with some other guy that Weiss had never met before. Still, almost as soon as she saw Anna, the second thing that caught her eye was the pile of stuff strewn about her. Beakers, test tubes, papers, notebooks, it seemed like Anna had everything in the lab going on at once. What was she up to? "Is it just me, or did I stumble upon a mad scientist's lab?" she joked, leaning against the doorway.

Anna was so excited by the results of her experiments that she didn't hear the footsteps outside the doorway to the lab until the doors were flung open.
Jumping at the sound, she immediately slammed down the hood of the fume chamber where the chemicals and blood samples she had managed to collect so far rested. Panic at someone discovering her experiment filled her mind and quickened her pulse, but when she turned around she had the same smile in place that she always wore.
Immediately, her blue eyes landed on Dorian as he walked in, leaving the doors behind him open. She swallowed but continued to smile, only too aware that her paperwork was still spread out and the machines she had been using were still running. Acting as calmly as possible, she walked over to the table and started to stack the notes into a pile as if nothing unusual or interesting were happening.
"Oh, hi Dorian! I didn't think you were still here."
Her coworker smiled, but she had already learned that when Dorian smiled it wasn't generally a good thing. And his next words proved that. Nonetheless, she gave a smile shrug and continued gathering up her paperwork.
"Nothing much, just finishing up a case is all. Thanks for the offer, but I've got this all under...."
However, before she could finish another figure appeared in the doorway, someone who shouldn't be down in the BPD labs. Blinking in surprise, Anna could only stare.
"Weiss? What are you doing here?"
She could feel a cold sweat breaking out on her face but desperately hoped that she could get Dorian and Weiss both out of the lab before they found out too much.

"Anna, darling, you're acting very shifty and there's far more blood and notes than a normal case warrants. Plus, if this were a case, you would have turned to me for some help, since this is my territory. Let me in on a bit, I could be very good at helping" He chuckled and ran a finger along one of the notes idly. This was really something he figured he could stick his nose into. It was very suspicious business and that was something he thrived in. Being Unseelie it was an inherent thing despite his choice to help the law. He turned when a snowy-white girl settled herself against the doorframe and remarked on the situation. He laughed. "Oooh, I like you. Queen of frostbite you are. You haven't seen when I'm in there" He said happily. "It's an utter disaster only I can make sense of. But now I'm curious as to what sort of illegal experiments our dear Anna is making" he grinned.

"Looking for Riku," Weiss replied. "Wanted to see if he was doing okay, after finally being de-bunnified and stuff." Honestly, Anna seemed shocked to see both her and the other guy, whose name was apparently Dorian. And he seemed to know who she was just by looking at her. That wasn't too surprising though. All LaFayettes had the distinctive look of white hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. Not to mention, their faces were splattered against the front page of newspapers every once in a while, either talking about some scandal they were involved in or some fancy-schmancy event they were hosting. Dorian seemed just as curious about what Anna was doing though, and Weiss's interest was peaked when he mentioned the word "illegal." "Illegal?" she repeated. She glanced around the room again. Sure, there was a lot of questionable stuff around, but was it really off-limits? Anna wouldn't go that far, would she?

"I'm not doing anything wrong!"
Anna's tone was firm and insulted, but she couldn't hide the blush of color slowly seeping into her cheeks. However, she wasn't lying. She'd said what she was doing wasn't wrong and really, just because something was illegal didn't make it wrong. After all, not so long ago it had been illegal in all of Louisiana to marry someone of a different race while it was perfectly legal to own human beings like property. Laws didn't make things right or wrong and the same applied to what she was doing.
When she noticed Dorian tracing a finger along one of her notes, she picked up a stirring rod and smacked him smartly on the hand before hastily picking up the note and placing it on the pile already held in one arm.
"And besides, I'm sure you guys have other, far more interesting things to focus on. Dorian, last I checked you were still behind on several cases. And Weiss, if you're looking for Riku you'll have to go to his place. He left about an hour ago."

"Ah, but illegal isn't always wrong, is it? I never said you were doing something wrong, I said you were doing something illegal" Dorian clarified with a smirk. He snatched his hand away from the stirring rod and glared at her. "Can't finish until you clear out darling little naughty" he intoned. "I'm waiting on you so until you finish I'm making this my business. It's illegal, I'm unseelie, I want in" He looked with interest at the girl. "Never met the former bunny cop, but if you want to forego seeing him, I'm sure some voodoo would be just what is needed. And my expertise on blood" he grinned ferally.

Weiss frowned. Anna seemed awfully defensive about what she was doing. What was she hiding? Dorian seemed curious as well, not really caring about any legal repercussions. Weiss wondered if he was always like this. He certainly seemed to have some high energy about him, as well as a fascination with morbid things like blood. Then again, Weiss wasn't really a stranger to that stuff either. Quite a lot of voodoo work involved working with the dead. There were spells that sent good vibes to any past ancestors that had passed on, and then there were the crazy ones that resurrected dead people. Weiss had never worked with the latter, and she didn't want to. Any dark voodoo she was looking up involved understanding the shadow spirits that followed her around and anything they deemed useful. She was already refreshing herself on voodoo dolls, which might be useful to have if anyone she knew tried to hurt her. Regardless, Dorian seemed to think she could help, and Weiss didn't want her trip over here to be for nothing. Besides, a memory was tugging at the back of her mind, and she was starting to wonder if it was connected to this. "Anna, last time we talked, you got an idea, an a-ha moment," she said, walking a little further into the room. "Is this part of it?"

Anna backed up towards the chemical hood she had slammed shut, the notes clutched tightly to her chest and the color still high in her cheeks as she looked at Dorian.
"I don't, I mean its, I'm sure you wouldn't...."
Her words were all tangled in that moment, her mind a horrible blank as she tried to find someway, anyway to get Dorian and Weiss to leave and not ask anymore questions. However, before she could come up with anything Weiss had stepped forward and asked if this was about the idea she had had while talking to her previously.
Anna's body went cold and she suddenly lost her grip on the notes, causing them to cascade to the floor.
"Oh, fudge balls!"
Her voice sounded higher than normal as she fell to her knees and tried to pick up the papers, all the while keeping her eyes on the ground and away from the other two.

"Ooooh, what sort of thing was she thinking of? Did she tell you? I do love a good mystery" he smirked again and looked at the young woman who was acting very uncharacteristically mouse-like with every passing second. He stooped when she dropped her papers and helped pick them up, raising his eyebrows at what he saw as he glanced at them. "I can get a blood sample from my daughter, her being a hybrid, if you need" he mused. "Might be whatever connection you're looking for" He smiled darkly at her, dark blue eyes glittering. "Of course, I want in Anna. I want to help whatever you're doing. Two or three heads are better than one you know"

Weiss thought back, trying to remember what had led to Anna giving her an idea. She remembered them talking about her scar, and how Weiss had answered with the bare minimum. Anna had felt bad about not being able to help that much during the jail break. "We were...I was saying to not feel bad about being just a regular human. And she was saying..." She glanced up as she remembered her friend's words. "She was saying how if people like her were a little stronger and faster, maybe they could be of greater help." Was that what this was all about? Was Anna trying to alter humans, make them a little more like Others? The idea sounded preposterous, even dangerous. A species trying to alter themselves into something else...who knew what could go wrong? Usually, the only time someone could become a different species was if they died. A person resurrected could become a zombie. Someone who had died could live as a ghost for a while before passing on. But altering someone this way? Weiss didn't know what to think. Anna didn't exactly confirm that this was what she was doing, but she didn't really deny it either. Dorian still seemed eager to help, but Weiss was still trying to comprehend all this. It was a bit much to take in.

Anna wanted to tear the paper out of Dorian's hands in that moment, but she knew it would do no good now. He had seen enough of the writing to guess at what she was doing. And if there had been any doubts before, Weiss' words and the expression of understanding on her face quickly dispelled them.
They knew now. They knew what she was trying to do.
She continued to crouch on the ground, balanced on the balls of her feet with the notes firmly pressed between her arms and her knees and her body curled around her like she was afraid they might attack her. The young medical examiner in that moment was nothing like her usual self, so cheerful and happy and impossible to bring down. Now, she was afraid and uncertain...
However, at Dorian's words her head jerked up and she stared at him in utter surprise, her blue eyes huge. Was he....offering to help her? She glanced towards Weiss and could see the uncertain look on her face. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity she spoke in a voice far too small for her.
"Please don't tell anyone."

"I swear on the crown of the Raven Prince I'll not breathe a word" he said solemnly. Swearing an oath was no laughing matter. For faeries it was practically sacred. You did your absolute best to keep a promise. So you only made them when it was absolutely necessary. "Now then, You want to make a human more like an other, yes? But you haven't gotten a hybrid's blood yet, it doesn't look like. Maybe a hybrid's blood will be the bridge you need. At least, that's the idea forming in my head. What do you think Anna? If you know any human hybrids maybe they'll let you use some blood"

Weiss sighed. Even if what Anna was doing was dangerous, she felt like she didn't have the heart to tell anyone. After all, what Weiss was doing with her shadow spirits was considered pretty dangerous by most people. It'd be hypocritical of her to condemn Anna for doing something similar. "I won't either," she promised. She knew why Anna was doing this. She wanted to be of help to others and not feel so useless because she didn't have any powers. Weiss still wasn't sure if this was the right way to go about it, but at least Anna had good intentions behind this. Dorian didn't seem to care too much about that though, and immediately started offering advice on how Anna could make some progress. "Permanently altering humans...that's gonna take a bit of work if you do it the scientific way," she said. "I know when most people think of regular people turning into supernatural beings, they think of ghosts and vampires and stuff. I doubt that's the route you want to take." She figured those were the last kinds of creatures Anna wanted to become. Other than that, any altering stuff for humans was usually temporary. Like, if they ate a certain magical seaweed, they'd get gills, but it would only last for an hour. Something like that. Making that last longer would be difficult. But Dorian seemed to be onto something about studying half-breed blood. Maybe that would be a good place to start.
