Slowly, Anna rose from where she had been crouching on the ground, the notes still held tightly to herself. Her eyes still reflected a certain hesitation as both Dorian and Weiss spoke, almost as if she didn't quite dare believe they would keep their promise. However, deep down Anna was still the same person and she couldn't think badly, not of people she had spent time with and gotten to know. Both of them had given her their word, and she truly believed they would keep it.
"A hybrid might help.... but I would need to see a sample before I could say for certain."
She turned to face the fume hood and, after only a moments pause, unlocked it and pulled the covering up. All the vials, chemicals, and centrifuges were now revealed as were the several vials of blood. Each was stoppered and labeled with the specimen's species and other details.
"I'm not trying to permanently alter humans. More just.... give them a temporary boost. Kinda like what Sapien Drug does to Others only in reverse. And it would only be for certain traits, not the negatives that come with the species. Like.... you get the healing factor of a vampire to mend wounds instantly but none of the bloodlust or intolerance to sunlight."
She put the notes down next to the chemicals, turning once more to face the Unseelie and Voodoo girl. She started to feel a glimmer of hope in that moment about what she was doing. Dorian and Weiss knew about it but weren't going to turn her in. They seemed to understand that while what she was doing was illegal and potentially dangerous, it would lead to something good. If they could accept it and even been willing to help her, then perhaps others could be made to understand. Perhaps, in time everyone would see the great thing she was going to do.
With this passing through her mind, a small smile appeared on Anna's lips. It wasn't particularly strong or nearly as radiant as her usual grins but it made her feel less frightened.

"I can get blood from a few hybrids. It'll maximize your net and garner more chances for positive results" he grinned with dark gleefulness. This was so much fun! He was sooo very excited to be a part of this little game. "You want to make a super human type steroid to give humans the boost they need when they need it" He said thoughtfully. "I can't help but wonder what that would do to the system over time with repeated use. Would the child become super-human if conception were to occur? I am curious to see how this plays out. It's going to bring a great boost of super-human people, that's for sure. Might level the playing field with you humans" He patted Anna on the shoulder as she smiled. "There you go! Think of all the glorious possibilities and it doesn't seem nearly as bad, does it? With our help you might just crack the code!"

So that was what Anna was aiming for: a temporary change, not a permanent one. Weiss had to admit: taking the concept of the Sapien drug and reversing it was pretty clever. And while Dorian seemed interested in all the possibilities, Weiss's mind inevitably went to the negative consequences that could come with this. She'd always been a cynic at heart, questioning whatever was put in front of her. It came with dealing with all the sneaky people in her family's inner circle. They always had an ulterior motive, something that they really wanted from the LaFayettes. It was just a matter of finding it out, whether it was money, influence, or something else. "Could there be any really bad side effects?" she asked. "What if someone gets addicted to this? People will always find a way to abuse any substance, and I bet some regular human would love to hoard a bunch of this stuff so they could be 'supernatural' all the time." In Weiss's mind, if people weren't careful with this, it could turn into the next heroin. People would always be searching for a fix, another hit that would turn them from an ordinary human into something powerful. Granted, she knew not every human would react that way, and maybe it was possible to keep this thing from becoming an addictive drug. But Weiss felt like it was a possibility that needed to be addressed.

"Really? Oh man, that would help humongously!"
She could see that Dorian, whom had mostly treated her with indifference since arriving at the BPD, was truly interested in her project and was even willing to help her realize her goals. It made her feel a wave of gratitude towards the Unseelie and gave her hope that other people would take the same view.
Weiss, on the other hand, seemed far less optimistic and brought up several questions. The young medical examiner, however, shook her head.
"That will have to be tested for. See I'm not planning on keeping this hidden from people or just handing it out on the streets willy nilly. I'm hoping that if I have a serum already prepared that when I present it to the scientific community, they'll support it so that I can get the funding I need to run proper research and testing. It can be regulated then and we'll get to know what all the conditions might be."
Her words were growing more confident as she spoke and took on the air of someone who knew what they were talking about.
"You see, if I even tried to present just the idea to a board of research, they'd just laugh and turn me away. They'd never give my idea, my experiment a chance. But if I have an actual serum ready to present to them, even if it's just a prototype...."

"I'll be happy to help. Maybe I can ask other Unseelie if they know or spawned any hybrid children. The more variations in dna mixing, the better to know how they can fit with a human's dna" He nodded thoughtfully at Weiss's misgivings but he shrugged at Anna's explanation. "Sounds like she has a plan voodoo girl. We just need to support her through it. Once the prototype serum is ready we can truly begin having fun. Testing on willing test subjects will be the most fun I've had without my violin" he rubbed his hands together excitedly. "When do we start?"

Dorian had a point. Anna did seem to have thought through a lot of this already, and had a definite plan in mind. Once tests were done, she could present her findings and really get the ball rolling. Nobody could argue with scientific fact, after all. However, she did have another question. "Do you think you'll find willing test subjects?" she asked. "I mean, I'm sure some people will be pretty enthusiastic about the idea, but others might not." Some might be like Dorian and think this was a great idea. Others might be more like her and have some hesitation. Anna had to get enough test subjects to make this work, otherwise her project wouldn't get very far. And while some might leap at the chance of having supernatural powers for a little while, others might not like the idea so much. Weiss wasn't sure if she'd like to be a test subject, if she was human. Being a witch doctor was such a huge part of who she was. Altering that seemed...odd, even if it was just for a little while. Even with all her work with her shadow spirits, it was still essentially voodoo. Anna was working with a whole other realm here, once she hadn't really experienced herself since she was human.

Anna's grin was growing wider and more confident as Dorian and Weiss both spoke, clearly showing that they understood she was going about this the best and safest way she could. When Weiss asked another question about the ability to find willing test subjects, Anna made a very light raspberry.
"Of course! I'll never get 100 percent of people supporting this idea, but what ever has? Heck, look at the way some people react towards vaccines despite all the lives they've saved! And we won't have to worry about human test subjects until we get through animal subjects first."
Anna's confidence was gaining strength and conviction once more! She knew what she was doing even if it was something a bit radical. She wasn't just some mad scientist from a cheesy TV movie trying to bring the dead back to life or create a new organism. She was the genuine thing and she knew that if people were just willing to give her serum a chance, then there was no telling how far it could go and the good it could bring.
With her confidence firmly back, Anna slowly pulled up the hood of the fume chamber where the heart of her experiment lay. She grinned back at Dorian, her expression as eager as his.
"We can start right now!"

"You see Weiss? She's perfectly capable of doing this as safely as possible! If it were an Unseelie conducting this, we'd get all the test subjects. Willing is another matter however" he snickered. "But this is a human woman doing the experiment and thus there will be sure-fire willing experiments only. Plus, we're starting on animals! Perfectly legitimate" He walked up to Anna and rolled his sleeves. "Alrighty then. Let's start now Anna. What do you want me to do first?"

Anna and Dorian seemed so confident about this. Weiss wasn't sure why she felt so hesitant about it. She didn't know if it was her inner pessimistic nature, or if Anna was just focusing more on the positives than the negatives. Either way, she wanted to get more testing done right now, and Dorian was ready to help her. Weiss wasn't sure if there was much she could do, but she figure she could at least spectate. After all, if Anna succeeded in this experiment, dark as it was, then maybe people would be more accepting of Weiss's own venturings into dark voodoo, even though most viewed it to be dangerous. She just couldn't help but feel like Anna was doing the same thing she was: doing something that would be seen as immoral by most, but could still have benefits. If Weiss could control her shadow spirits, then she could become more powerful. And if Anna succeeded in her experiment, then lots of regular humans could feel more powerful. Where was the harm in that? "I should find Riku, but...mind if I spectate? For a little while?" she asked. Even if this experiment failed, she wanted to see how it played out.

"Sure."
Anna nodded and smiled at Weiss' request, not the least bit worried about the young woman observing them. After all, she had made a promise to not tell anyone what she was doing and Anna truly believed she would keep her promise.
When Dorian then rolled up his sleeves and asked what he could do first, Anna's face became the tiniest bit concerned and the smallest flush of color spread across her cheeks.
"Well, you could start by letting me take a blood sample from you..."
She left the words hanging, somewhat embarrassed by this request. After all, you didn't just ask people for samples of their blood everyday and she wasn't certain how the Unseelie would react to the idea of his own blood being used in the experiment. Still, she needed a sample of Unseelie blood to test out some of her calculations and see how different Other DNA interacted in certain combinations. And since he wanted to be involved in her experiment, he was the most likely source.

He paused, thought about the request and shrugged. "I'm warning you though, fae's blood is more similar to a demon's than it is to a human's. You're going to want some blood that bridges the gap" He held out his arm to her and nodded seriously. "I'm only letting you bleed me because I believe in your cause, Anna. Do try not to betray me"

Weiss blinked. This was an awfully macabre way to start this. Dorian actually seemed to get pretty serious for a moment. Weiss wondered how this was going to go. She hadn't worked with blood that much when doing voodoo, and the few times she had, human blood was all that was required. She glanced back up at Dorian. "So, you're half fae, half..." Her voice trailed off. It was hard to tell what other half made up Dorian. For all intents and purposes, he seemed to look like a regular human. Then again, a lot of supernaturals did. That was what made it so easy for them to blend in with humans in other places that weren't quite so tolerant of supernatural creatures. Of course, there were always exceptions to this rule. Weiss knew that there was an officer named Shadow who looked like a hedgehog, and the troll Omar she had met a while back would have a hard time blending in too. That was just how some Others were.

"Don't worry. I'm already working on that."
This cryptic response was all she said in response to Dorian's statement. She remained perfectly quite as she quickly swabbed the exposed section of Dorian's arm with an alcohol wipe, tied a tourniquet around the lower limb and expertly inserted the needle into one of the veins showing bluish under his skin.
With a careful look on her face, she drew on the plunger and blood immediately pooled in the vial attached to the end of the syringe. Once she had collected three small vials of the liquid, she undid the tourniquet and quickly removed the needle from Dorian's arm, all the while holding the still warm containers of blood in her free hand.
"All done!"
Anna's voice could barely surprise the excitement she was feeling in that moment as she took the vials over to the fume hood and began to label them before adding them to a line of other vials, each containing different samples of Others blood.
"With Unseelie blood, this should help solve some of the problems I've had with the serum!"

Dorian raised an eyebrow at the cryptic response but shrugged. He'd figured it out sooner or later. He turned at Weiss's comment while Anna was taking the blood and snorted with laughter. "I never said I was a hybrid. I said my daughter was" he corrected her. "She's a troll fae hybrid. But, she lives with her mother in the forests of Norway. I don't think city life is good for a little girl. Especially here" When the bloodwork was finished he took back his arm and flexed it to get rid of pins and needles in his finger tips. "What problems have you had with the serum that unseelie blood specifically will fix?" he asked curiously.

"Oh. I see." A troll and fae hybrid...Weiss wasn't sure if she had met someone like that before. She was sure they'd existed before, of course. By this point in time, most combinations of hybrids had been tried. People were just curious about that sort of thing, despite some having disastrous results. Hybrids such as vampires/zombies never worked out well. The most common seemed to be those that were half human and half Other. Weiss had heard that Yang, the girl she had saved, was like that. Half human, half phoenix. She glanced up as Anna said she'd been having some problems with the serum. Dorian pretty much echoed her thoughts. She was curious about that too.
