Shadow snickered quietly. Yang and him had their differences, but when they had something in common, the poking fun of one another was a bit easier. It wasn't the same as Pitch and him, where the similarities were uncomfortable. Shadow's stubbornness had led to the commissioner lecturing him on countless occasions, but the homunculus never listened. At least, not as closely as the commissioner wanted. Besdies, a lash out in fear was understandable. The reference to the fire hydrant was putting him at ease. Sunshine had said it was on one of her craft blogs of top 10 housewarming gifts, and he had been skeptical, but the idea of a half-Phoenix putting out her own fires was something. "What else has he offered to help with?"

Yang was quiet for a moment she replied "Pretty much everything." And she felt like it wasn't an exaggeration. Adrien would do anything for her, and she knew it. She just didn't want him to feel like she was taking advantage of him. His whole life, the majority of people around him liked him for his money, and Yang didn't want to be anything like them. "He'd probably buy me a private island if I asked," she continued. "It's a little...scary, knowing he'll do anything I want. I mean, that's so much power over one person. It's kind of daunting." Of course, the flip side was that Yang would do pretty much anything for Adrien as well. Of course, she couldn't buy something like a private island, but her house was open to him whenever he wanted. And she'd be there for him as much as she could. She'd messed up on a lot of things in her life, but she wouldn't mess up the relationship she had with him.

"And that," Shadow pointed at Yang, "is proof you're not a waste of his time or a burden to him, and that's he's a far cry from the rest of this city's one percent." His opinion of Adrien....next time he met as Chat, he would have to stay quiet on the fact he knew the truth and have the kid tell him himself. Something told him their last conversation was a build up to that. Adrien trusted him enough to come clean, which made him feel...in a way, slightly honored. "Have you asked him to back off on some things so it's not as...intimidating? Sunshine had to do that when I was training her." That day, he felt sort of proud of her, standing up to her. "Plus, what would you put on that private island?"

"You got that right," Yang agreed. It seemed like Elsa and Adrien were the exception to the stereotypical rich jerks that populated this city. Weiss probably fit there too. She did save Yang after all, although she didn't know much about her besides that. Rumor had it that was Weiss was becoming a recluse, burying her head in voodoo books more than anything else. Yang didn't see what everyone's problem was with that. The girl got hurt by Thrax too. She deserved some alone time, and if doing voodoo was what made her feel better, than so be it. Besides, that's what her family was known for. "Well, it's just...he can give me so much, and I have just...me, you know? I feel like I can't pay him back for everything he's done." She poked her cake idly with her fork. "He just does it 'cause he wants me to be happy." That was how Adrien was. It wasn't like he pressured Yang into doing stuff. He just asked what she wanted, and he delivered. Maybe it was high time she asked him what he wanted.

Shadow set his fork down again, listening long and hard at Yang's issue. She didn't have anything to return Adrien with in regards to all the nice things he qas giving her. From the sounds of it, Adrien's kindness was making her feel...well, not useless, per se. In the end, happiness was what the kid wanted, and well, Shadow couldn't be too harsh on someone who just wanted their love inteest to be happy. Was that he wanted for Sunshine, to? Just a chance to be happy? "Maybe you being yourself is your way of paying him back," Shadow suggested. "I don't think anyone's shown gratitude for what he's done like you have. Your gratitude, to him, is worth a lot more than all the fancy things..." He paused. Myave that was why Riku and Sunshine got together; she had shown someone from a high status a chance to be...ironic considering the situation...human. "What do you think he wants? And don't repeat yourself."

Yang should have expected Shadow to say that. In a way, Adrien had said the same thing. He always assured her that just being with him was enough. Her tiny house probably felt more like home to him than his big mansion. Yang at least felt a little good about that. If her house could be a place where Adrien felt safe and wanted, then that made her happy. After everything he had gone through, Adrien deserved a place warm and inviting. "Yeah, I guess. He's said as much. I guess my...self-esteem kind of just makes everything negative, you know?" She knew Adrien was happy when he was with her, and that he didn't expect anything in return. But doubts and anxious thoughts always told her otherwise, and made her worry that she wasn't good enough for him, that the gap between what the two of them could offer each other was growing by the day. Part of her recovery plan was working on stuff like that and not having such a negative self-image. "I think he wants to be free," she said in answer to Shadow's question. "His home is like a cage, and he's the bird stuck inside." That was mainly why he had started sneaking out as Chat Noir. As soon as he had on the cat suit and mask, he could do whatever he wanted, say whatever came to mind. "I guess when he's here...I want him to feel like he's home." She gave a little laugh. "I guess everything I've done could be seen as major romantic stuff. I just...haven't said the words yet." Any major confessions had been avoided so far, with the closest being Adrien saying that he'd date Yang if given the chance. Yang, on the other hand, hadn't given any hints to what she really felt, and she was still wondering if she should. She was still paranoid that all her problems would get in the way somehow, despite Adrien promising that he'd never leave her. It was a major conundrum to her.

Shadow nodded, taking another few bites of the cake. There were only a few crumbs on the plate, but he'd have those eatn in a heartbeat. "Adrien hung out at my place a couple of times. Well, he hasn't taken off the mask, but he and I exchange talks." Yes, heart-to-hearts on the the balcony. Shadow didn't like to admit it, but looking out the window and chatting with Adrien was probably the most fun he had. So, to hear Yang was welcoming him with open arms too was a huge relief. He also couldn't blame the kid for wanting out of the crazy sheltered life, being surrounded by bodyguards to fight off fans or paparazzi. The kid was too good to be treated like a caged bird. Yang said she hadn't said the words, to which he answered, "Say them while you can...I wish I had done that earlier..."

Yang's head shot up at that. Shadow knew that Chat and Adrien were the same person? Did he figure it out? Or did Adrien decide to tell him since the whole paparazzi incident? And from the looks of it, he seemed to know that Yang knew about it too. She wasn't sure how to react. Adrien didn't give out his secret willy-nilly. Yang wasn't even meant to have found out. It just happened by accident. "So you...know about that?" she asked. Did Shadow consider Chat Noir a friend now? She knew he wasn't his biggest fan when they first met, but it wasn't like that now. She was aware of that much at least. Still, Shadow pretty much advised her to tell him how she felt while she still could. When he said he wished he had done that, she could hear the regret in his voice. Taking that, along with the tense way he had spoken about Riku and Sunshine's date, it was easy to tell who he was referring to. "So...you had a thing for Sunshine for a while?" she asked.

The shot up of Yang;s head was something Shadow had seen in enough interrogations to get the message across. It was a reaction of absolute surprise. The turth was, he just found out about Chat and Adrien being the same person. "No...it just took your phone and the media for me to learn the truth," he answered. He felt kind of stupid not putting two and two together earlier. But he had trusted Chat. Trusted him to know the kid would tell who he really was when he was ready. Then Yang dug the knife into his heart. A metallic taste got into his mouth, and he pushed the now reduced to crumbs cake aside. His answer was quiet, and he couldn't even look at her.
"Yes."

Yang bit her lip. Maybe she should have been more careful with that. Anyone else who knew Chat might be able to piece together who he was. If Shadow was able to do it, why not Sunshine? Or any other officer that was familiar with him? 'Don't tell him that you know. He's...protective, of that. I wasn't even supposed to know. It just sort of...happened by accident." Really, if she hadn't punched Adrien in the face at the hospital, who knew when she would have found out. He probably planned on telling her eventually. Heck, he had been planning on coming back to her, even before their reunion at the hospital. Still, her finding out sooner than expected changed a lot. It let both of them lower their defenses, and get to know each other better. However, it seemed that Shadow was having even less luck in the romance department than she was. His one-word response pretty much conveyed all the regret he had over not telling Sunshine how he felt, and the jealousy he couldn't help feel over her going out with Riku. Yang was quiet for a moment before asking "Are you sure it's too late? Maybe she should know, before she gets serious about Riku or something." She wasn't sure what the right path to take was, honestly. And a confession from Shadow now might make things awkward for Sunshine. But if Shadow never really said what was on his mind, then he'd have to live with that forever. And Yang knew better than anyone how regret could eat up a person from the inside.

Shadow simply nodded. The media leaking this information may or may not make it to the tabloids. If the police got involved, trouble was going to be close. That wasn't going to be healthy when it came to protecting Adrien. The family could lawyer up they wanted, but the damage had been donr, and that wasn't just to Adrien's face when Yang punched him. He tittered quietly, remembering how when and Chat caught up, Chat said Yang found out by breaking his mask with her fist. The weight in his chest rose as she asked if it was too late. Shadow closed his eyes. A confession would get the heaviness, the pain, off of his chest, but what would it do for Sunshine? He couldn't risk hurting her, or getting other hurt by just saying what he felt. "They say if you love someone, let them go..." He remembered Chat asking how it was seeing her every day and not saying anything. Now that Sunshine and Riku were an item, he could finally describe it in words. It made him angry and insecure, feelings he wasn't used to, so they manifested as something negative. "and I can't force her to feel the same. That wouldn't be fair."

Shadow only nodded, but Yang felt like it was enough. He wasn't the type to spill other people's secrets. No doubt that was why he hated reporters so much. A lot of them seemed so intent on digging up dirty stuff and spreading it around for their own enjoyment. What kind of way to live was that? As for telling Sunshine how he felt, Shadow didn't seem a big fan of the idea, mainly because it would put a lot of pressure on her. Yang had to admit that he had a point. It was like bad romance movies, where a girl was caught between two guys and she had to agonize over which one to hook up with. No doubt Shadow wanted to avoid putting Sunshine in a position like that. But he was obviously bitter about it. Yang could tell that much. And she knew how pent up feelings could boil over someday, and usually at the worst times too. Wouldn't it be better to tell her on his own terms, rather than waiting for a moment when he just exploded? It'd probably come out in a way he didn't want. But, Yang had to admit, she wasn't an expert when it came to love. After all, Adrien was the first person she'd ever had serious romantic feelings for. She was far from a love guru. She just hated seeing Shadow so unhappy. "If you say so," she said. "I'll just say this much though: Letting go of someone is easier said than done. I know from experience." When Adrien had left her in order to keep her safe, Yang had tried her best to forget about him and move on. But, her feelings for him said otherwise, and she just couldn't get him out of her mind. And the same happened with Adrien regarding her. He had found it hard to stay away from her, and he had finally given in when she had lost her arm. Both of them had pretty much failed when it came to letting each other go. Shadow could insist all he wanted that if you loved someone, letting them go might be the best thing, but if his feelings for Sunshine remained, then it wouldn't be so easy.

Shadow just looked at the table and the small ring of crumbs where the cake had been. The love was really all his own fault. Letting her go would be the best thing he could do. Sunshine cared, but not in the way he felt about her. Stupid on his part, thinking someone...no, something...could actually develop any kind of affection for him beyond friendship. It might have been part of his curse with being a creation. A shaky sigh was exhaled as he looked back up at Yang. "You know, you're one of the only few who...well...sees me like this..." Vulnerable.

Shadow didn't exactly say anything in reply to Yang's last bit of advice, but he at least seemed to think it over. Yang figured that'd have to be enough for now. And that was probably all the meddling she should do. If she got anymore involved, she might screw things up, and matchmakers could get into pretty hot water if they tried to force romance. She glanced up as he spoke again, commenting how she was one of the few people that got to see him like this. In a way, Yang knew how he felt. "I used to be like that too," she said. "I was never good at talking about my problems when I was on the streets. And I guess that's...still sort of a problem. I know everyone says talking about what's troubling you is better in the long run, but it still feels...hard, you know?"

"Especially when you've become distrusting of so many in general..." Shadow agreed. Hi sdistrust of people hadn't started when he became a cop. It actually had started, now that his memory was returning, the day Maria died. He had garnered such a loathing of humanity that he wanted no help from any of them. Maybe that was why he had gone to Pitch, knowing humans couldn't really do anything for the pain and anger he had felt, watching her die right in front of him. "Sunshine was the first person I really trusted, you know? I mean, I had my partners before her, but I could never...open up the way I did with her."
