Yang nodded. She could relate to that. After having been failed by the police, and society as a whole, trusting people completely hadn't come easily to her. Sure, she had had friends, but actually believing in them to help her solve her problems? That didn't happen. And that was still something she was struggling with, mainly because her problems right now couldn't be solved by other people. Shadow or Omar or Adrien couldn't fix the problems inside her head. They could only help her get over them herself, and she wasn't sure if she had the strength to do that. Sure, Shadow thought otherwise, but she wasn't quite as optimistic. "Well, she makes it easy," Yang said. "I mean, she's so nice and inviting. It's kind of hard not to confide in her." Sure, Yang hadn't trusted Sunshine on the same level as she had with some of her other friends, but still. Yang had gone for her for help before, and Sunshine had delivered. Yang knew she could count on her when she needed it.

Nice and inviting. Yang was right; Sunshine had those qualities down pat.Shadow had always looked at her for whatever needed to be fixed. In a way, her healing went beyond just lengthening her hair with sun-harnessed magic then wrapping that hair around an injury to make it go away. He wondered, partially, if the Seddons had the capability to heal mental injuries. No, that'd be impossible. If that were true, the Seddons would have been famous for healing all kinds of wounds. No one had that power except a person themselves. He flexed his hand, which he hadn't realized had tightened, and stretched the fingers. "So much for this being a simple, pleasant visit," he said. "I'm sick of brooding over cake I'm never going to get back...without...you know...purging."

"Hey, both of us have a lot going on right now. I think it's good we talked about it for a bit," Yang said. She didn't want Shadow to think he couldn't talk to her about things that were bothering him, even if it did dampen the mood. A lot had happened to him over a short period of time. He still needed to take it all in. And Yang had a lot going on too, what with her lost arm, getting over her mental hurdles, and figuring out what to do about Adrien. If she and Shadow couldn't talk about this kind of stuff every once in a while, then what was the point? "Knowing me, I'll probably have more cupcakes or by next week," she said. "We can talk about lighter stuff then."

A little bit was a huge difference, though. Shadow had been known to stay quiet about things he refused to address or didn't even want to talk about period. The fact that he was able to finally talk with Yang made all the difference. Why was talking with her so...easy? She was just a kid, a kid brought up in such an awful place and had terrible things happen to her...It was a repeat of Maria, minus the death and fatal illness. Yang mentioned more cupcakes would be coming in, and he snickering, "Never knew Nevermore had a delivery system installed."

Yang laughed. "Knowing Sunshine, she'd probably make one if she had the time," she said. "Although I guess Jane is the next best thing." The cupcakes she had brought over last time were pretty good. It was a shame that she still couldn't get along with most cops. She had her reasons of course, but Yang felt like if she could get over her grudge, maybe Jane could too. Omar had gotten over it. Heck, he was friends with Shadow and Aqua. That had to be some sign of how far he had come.

Shadow's face fell at the cupcake caterer. Jane. The brunette who chewed him out and probably made him feel even worse about his job. "Omar's daughter, right?" Well, he could ask that without showing some kind of annoyance. That, and it showed that, yes, he did view Omar as a friend and not just some guy to get drunk with on nights Sunshine was busy or Adrien was getting a greaseball rich person in trouble.

"Yeah, that's right." Yang didn't miss the way Shadow's face fell at the mention of Jane's name. She'd chewed out the police force more than once. He probably got caught under her line of fire. Jane had a temper that could match Yang's if she got angry enough. "She's a nice person, really. It's just...hard for her to forgive, you know? She's been holding a grudge against the police way longer than I have." At least with Yang, she'd only hated them for a couple of years. Jane had hated them ever since she was a little kid. That was a lot more time for resentment to build up. "Maybe Omar can help her let it go," she said, thinking out loud. "I mean, he's managed to do it."

"If she wasn't, she'd be throwing the cupcakes as opposed to giving them to you." Shadow had always said Yang would have been a good cop. She could pick up small details, including when a person felt upset or confused. But that comment had gotten him yelled at by Jane, and that comment still burned him to the core. Talking with Omar helped him understand a little more, but still, it was no excuse to lash out at every single cop who risked their life. Heck, he had saved Jane from Vanitas and had gotten nothing in return. "He said you tried to hook him and Jane up without the family knowledge; talk about giving someone an Oedipus complex."

Yang gave a little laugh. That'd probably be something Jane would do. She was feisty that way. She wasn't a trained fighter or anything, not like how Yang and Shadow were, but she could still kick some butt if she was mad enough. She probably would have pummeled Vanitas if he was a regular guy and not a super-strong demon. Then again, fist fighting wasn't Vanitas' first choice when dealing with someone. He preferred to get inside their head, or throw insults until they snapped. He was crafty that way. Although, if Yang was honest, she hadn't heard anything about him in a long time. He was one of the few inmates from the jail break that had never gotten caught. Who knew where he was now. She laughed again when Shadow mentioned Yang's short-lived romantic escapades with Jane and Omar. "Yeah, that was kind of funny," she said. "That was just how I was though. I liked to get into the thick of things." She nibbled at her cake for a moment before adding "At least I didn't mess that up too bad." It seemed like that was one of the few instances where her getting involved actually turned out okay. She was sure Jane would have found Omar eventually, even without her help, but still. She had reunited them all the quicker, as Jane and Omar liked to remind her. Yang just wished that more of her meddling would end up more positively.

"No. But, you got a broken family patching itself back together. Yeah, it wasn't the result you wanted, but a lot of good came out of it." Shadow shrugged. "And oh, I remember you and the thick of things. Heck, my memory may be shotty, but I remember we met with you looking for kids hoping the La Llorona killer wouldn't get them." They really had quite an adventure that time. Who knew a kid coated in mud would result in getting to know a firecracker like Yang? It was almost something that softened him up for the best.

Shadow did have a point, and it was what a lot of her friends had been telling her. Her kids may have been living on the streets, and she may have done illegal things to keep up their lifestyle, but at least they weren't neglected or abused like they were at their old homes. It may not have been the best thing for him, but she had gotten them out of a harmful environment. And things had turned out well for them, in the end. It still wasn't a time Yang was terribly proud of though. She had been reckless and stubborn and all too eager to get into a little trouble every now and again. She felt like that same recklessness was what had led her to losing her arm. Shadow brought up how her meddling had led the two of them to finding an almost-victim of the La Llorona killer. She supposed that did have to count for something. "Yeah, it's not exactly a typical way for friends to meet," she said with a little laugh. Still, it had brought her and Shadow together, and she was thankful for that.

Shadow picked up his plate, emitting a quiet chuckle. "In this city, nothing is typical," he pointed out. As he ran the sink water, watching the crumbs get swept, he began wondering how an innocent town had gone to so much shit. It wasn't like big cities, both of which were an hour on the freeway in either direction, and that was by human car and not his supersonic speeds, were being attacked by vampires and demons and under a sky of hell. True, Pittsburgh had black skies in the old days, but that was identifiable.

"That should be on a sign when you first get here," Yang joked as she finished off the last of her cake. It may be blunt, but at least it was honest. She knew some people were thinking about moving, ever since things had gotten crazy. But Yang felt like things were always nutty around here. Some days were just crazier than others, and right now, craziness was on a high. She hoped it would go down eventually though. Nothing really major had happened since the jail break. Although, if she was honest, she couldn't tell if this lull was actually crime going down, or if it was just the calm before the storm. At this rate, she felt like things could go either way.

"Well, let's also add 'welcome to Goths and superstition fanatics''" Shadow half joked. When the sky turned red, a heavy increase of fashion statements and people walking in Bellerouge came. Nowadays, it was impossible to see anyone wearing clothing that wasn't some shade of black. There were even people coming in claiming to exorcists, ghost hunters, monster hunters, black arts users, and even a coven.

"You'd think a fashion statement like that would have died out ages ago," Yang commented as she put her plate in the sink. "I mean, wearing black all the time in a city that gets so sweltering in the summer, it's a wonder more of them haven't passed out from heatstroke or something." Fashion wasn't always the first thing on Yang's mind, and she only worried about it if she was doing something important. The white dress leftover from the LaFayette's masquerade ball was really the only expensive piece of clothing she had. Everything else was cheap. "You ever think fanatics like that might make a move again? Like they did with that Sapien drug or whatever?" She knew there was still some tension between Others and humans, but the Sapien crisis seemed to be the time when it really came to a head. Yang hadn't gotten hit with the drug herself, but she had seen the effects on Shadow and Sunshine, and it hadn't been pretty. The last thing this city needed was another crisis like that.
