Axel did have a point. She'd gone through the whole "sex, drugs, and alcohol" talk as a kid, where teachers gave off a million reasons why the first wasn't something you should rush into, and the latter two had to be avoided at all costs when you were young. Of course, Adeline was sure a bunch of her old classmates would hit the bars as soon as they turned 21. A lot of them were typical teenagers that way. Even before she had summoned Thrax, she'd never really been a part of them. She'd always stood out, thanks to her perfect grades and ability to master spells faster than anybody else. She gave a laugh at Axel's question. "Don't have many gal pals," she admitted. "And the one I'm closest to doesn't really give out romantic advice." Heck, who even knew if Namine could trust someone enough to fall in love with them. She had a hard enough time trusting herself. Adeline felt like love could find her though, if she was open to it. Namine was a kind and gentle person. Anyone would love that.

"So you go to a demon?" he laughed.
He couldn't help it. It was hysterical. Because most demons would just tell her 'screw it' to everything figuratively and literally. Age? Who cares? The person has weird kinks? Go for it! They don't like you back? Kidnap them, drug them, and keep them until they do! Demons were the worst people to go to for romantic advice. Luckily, Adeline found one who knew humans well enough not to give the automatic demon response to some of her fears. She was just a kid and didn't need Axel's automatic response to any of her fears was to 'fuck it' and just do what she wanted. That wouldn't go over well. She was after all still young and didn't need him being vulgar.

"Well, you are the most cheerful out of my bunch of friends," Adeline said. "On the outside, at least." And she felt like it was true. Namine was skittish, Pitch was serious, and Adeline was moody. Compared to them, Axel was the perkiest out of all of them. Although, it seemed like he had his fair share of problems too. Either they didn't bother him as much or he was better at ignoring them. Either way, he was the most likely to give her some kind of romance advice out of him, Namine, and Pitch. Heck, for a little while, Adeline had wondered if Pitch was capable of feeling mushy stuff like that. He had seemed so cold when she had first met him, like any kind of emotion just bounced off of him. At least now she knew he could feel stuff the same as she could, it was just a little bit harder.

"Me? Cheery? You really need to find some perkier friends then."
He found himself easy going at best, at worst he didn't exactly have a word for it apathetic worked well enough. Certainly a pessimist by any standard of the word. He was always imagining the worst case scenario. Not to mention the fact he had a rather twisted sense of humor. But he wasn't supposed to be the 'good friend'. Didn't mean he felt bad about it. He was silently pleased that Adeline felt that she could come to him for advice. He would just have to tone things back for her. Which he felt he could do if she needed him to.

"Working on it," Adeline replied, hoping that would make Axel feel better. She knew her parents were hoping she'd make some friends her age now that she was happier. Although, if Adeline was honest, she'd admit to them that she didn't have much in common with other teenagers anymore. Most kids her age were worrying about things like prom or getting onto the football team or their GPA. Meanwhile, she was still dealing with Thrax, falling in love with Pitch, and the guilt over what had happened to Weiss and Yang. Would anyone her age ever be able to relate to that stuff? She was open to more friends, but she wasn't actively seeking them out either. She felt content with what she had now.

"Don't stress yourself out." he said. "I'm just giving you a hard time."
He tended to do that. Adeline would make friends as they came to it. Not any faster. If there was something he knew about forcing someone to do something they didn't want to. Besides, people were either perky or they weren't. It was just weird when they tried to fake being happy or peppy. Especially if they had a disposition for the opposite. Then things got weird, because that person wasn't acting like themselves. No one wanted to deal with that. It was like asking Axel to trim his hair into something more reasonable, put on a suit and get a white collar job. Personality wise, it didn't suit the bartender.

"Yeah, well, I guess some people are hoping I'll make some friends now that I'm a bit better," Adeline replied. "Or, some normal ones, I guess." She paused for a moment before adding "Not that you're abnormal or anything. Just...not typical, you know?" Teenagers usually didn't have friends like hers. Then again, Adeline's parents didn't know everything about her social life. They had no idea about Axel, or that she and Pitch were in a romantic relationship. All they really knew was Namine, and Adeline was sure they wondered why their daughter was hanging out with someone who had such a nervous disposition. But, they operated on the philosophy that if it wasn't harmful or dangerous, and it made Adeline happy, then they were all for it. Adeline knew they were afraid of her getting depressed again like she had after Thrax had first been summoned, and just holing herself up for months. That had been a dark time, and they were willing to go along with anything that might prevent her from going back to that.

"You are fine just the way you are." He said. "You had reason to be demon shy. And you bounced back just fine."
She had been petrified when she first met him, ready to flee, like a little rabbit running from the wolf. Except this wolf was mostly vegan. Adeline had to recover at a pace she was happy with, not too fast, not too slow, but with time to come to terms with the things that happened to her. But she was also human, so maybe those people wanted her to make human friends, not Other friends. Not much he could do about that. Not much she could do either.
"Nothing wrong with a few weird friends."

"Does that mean I can introduce you to my parents?" Adeline teased as she sipped her tea. Her mom and dad would probably be fine with Axel once they got to know him and she explained that he wasn't like Thrax and Vanitas. But she was sure they'd be suspicious when first meeting him, just as she had been. They were wary of demons almost as much as she was. The only one they really trusted was Pitch, and that was because he was a cop and had helped her control her demon side. She remembered how enthusiastic they had been when she had told them about him. They considered it a stroke of luck, finding someone who could truly help their daughter. Adeline felt like she had been lucky too, and that feeling had only grown as she and Pitch had gotten closer.

"Your parents would be too afraid I'd bring you back with tattoos and a nose ring." Axel laughed.
A bartender who happened to be a demon. Because that was someone you took home to meet the parents. They certainly would be terrified that he was going to be a bad influence on her. It appeared he did have some effect if she listened to him when he told her to grab life by the reigns and confess to the guy she liked. But he knew human code well enough not to be an asshole 100% of the time. Still, he knew how he appeared to humans. He was tall, dark and incredibly punk. Humans thought his hair was dyed, not natural.

"I could do without the nose ring," Adeline said. "Although tattoos aren't an uncommon thing with witches. Some of us like getting magic stuff right on our skin." Half the times, witches got tattoos to boost their power, or help them channel their magic energy better. This usually resulted in tattoos that were written in runes, and tended to glow whenever the witch used magic. Adeline wasn't sure if she would ever get any, but her parents probably wouldn't object too heavily to that. Despite being magic users themselves though, they didn't have any tattoos themselves. Maybe they just never saw the point of them. It was something Adeline would have to ask.

"Wouldn't look good on you anyways. Earrings maybe. Nose ring? Not so much." Axel agreed. "I know a few guys who could probably help with that."
Most of them were former workers of his, who in turn went on to make their own businesses - tattoo parlors, hair salons, massage therapists. All of his success stories, all people he had kept safe from the likes of Cruella and her minions. He doubted that Adeline would jump into that. He certainly wanted to make sure her parents were okay with such a thing before he just whisked her away to get inked. He'd rather not have anyone start a manhunt because he got a minor a tattoo. He didn't look good in orange.

"Might have to think about it before I get one," Adeline said. "I know everyone would want me to get something anti-demon-ish. It'd probably do more harm than good though." It was the same reason she couldn't carry emeralds or any other gemstone that might hurt demons. Because she had a demon side, it could hurt her too, even if it wasn't as much as a full-blood demon. If she got emerald dust thrown at her face, she probably wouldn't have the same reaction as Pitch, although she wasn't about to test that. All she knew was that just wearing emerald jewelry herself gave her a major headache, although it didn't really bother her when other people wore it. She was reluctant to find out anymore on the subject, for fear of going too far and really hurting herself.

"Try topaz or obsidian. They're supposed to protect you from harmful magic." Axel offered. "Opals are always good too."
Adeline was a witch. She needed stones that helped witches ward off evil magic or strengthen their current magic. The best offense was a good defense after all. Everyone had emeralds, well those who could afford them had them. Emeralds weren't cheap. She was just a kid. A kid likely without a job and an income of her own so 'allowance' money from mom and dad wouldn't cut it. Hard to come by expensive stuff like emeralds. Obsidian shards were easier to find, even online. One click and delivered in two days or less.

"I guess that could be worth looking into," Adeline replied. She just wasn't sure if demon magic qualified as harmful magic. And even then, what if the stone ended up blocking her own spells? She'd have to find a loophole or something to make it work. If all else failed, she could find some stones that just boosted her own magic power. If she couldn't put up a very good defense, she could at least have some offensive stuff on hand. It was just hard figuring out what could or couldn't work, and her being both a witch and a demon just made things even more complicated. The very thing she was trying to fight against was also inside her. It was beyond frustrating.
