Wally took the hand, at least that was something. He would hate to go back to his place and put his hand in hot water waiting for it to thaw out. "Nice to meet you Elsa, though I guess I wish it had been in a better situation." Getting attacked by assassins was not something that most people would call "pleasant." All that mattered was to wait for the police to take them away.
"They didn't hurt you anything did they?" he asked, the boy hadn't really gotten a chance to survey if the men had caused her any injuries or not. She seemed fine but there were different kind of wounds.

Well, the handshake was something a professional would give. Maybe it was the fear of getting frozen, maybe it was because Wally was like a genuinely kind boy for someone his age, Elsa didn't know. All she knew was at least the kid with the speed was trustworthy enough to keep around. "Agreed. Being stalked in a cemetery is...not quite the first impression I wanted, either,"
Wally asked if she was hurt. She looked at her hands. No, nothing there. The hammer in her chest had stopped. Well, at least she wasn't about to pass out.
"No," she answered. "I'm not hurt."

Wally gave a soft sigh of relief. That was always a big relief in learning that he had managed to avoid something like that. The assassins were probably professionals, at least until an ice user and a speedster got the better hand of them. "That's good to hear, I gotta say though, that ice power of yours is impressive."
He hadn't seen anything like that before, and he was thankful that he hadn't met her on the other side of the battlefield. An ice assassin would have been scary.

Elsa flexed her hands, letting a tiny flurry float p from the fingers. It was something everyone said to her. Was it because she was able to keep the ice cold in a place as hot as Louisiana? It was impressive she was able to keep it going in the heat when it would only turn into mist. A shy smile crossed her lips. "I don't like to brag, but...I suppose it is."

Wally was at least glad to see her smile. Despite being attacked by assassins, which was something that many people could not smile about. They would probably be terrified but something told him that Elsa was used to the compliments and the idea of running into some bad people along the way. He flexed his hands, trying to bring warmth to his fingers that were starting to get cold. "I am guessing that you being here probably means that you are visiting someone?"
It was the only logical explanation. What else would she be doing here in the rain if she wasn't here to visit the deceased. "Or are you just here to stop the riff-raff?" he asked jokingly.

Elsa rolled her eyes. "No, I;m here to worship the ice god Glaicus," she said sarcastically. After a while, she let the joke die down. The seriousness was continuing to hit her. She stroked her white-blonde hair, which refroze the small snowflakes hidden in the weaving of her braid. Louisiana heat messed those up all the time.
"I...was here to visit my parents. It was their wedding anniversary." Despite her cool demeanor, eyes betrayed a sense of sadness, "My father was a lawyer like I am. He and I...had disagreements, but that didn't change the fact that he was my family. He and my mother went on a cruise to Norway...family history, I wouldn't want to bore you with that...and both of them were lost when hiking a trail." Cruel, cruel irony. A family of gifted humans associated with ice, coming from an Arctic region, and died of exposure to the cold. All because they were cocky that day.

The boy's eyes lost a bit of their sparkle as they turned serious with a hint of remorse. His smile turned into a small frown. "I'm...I'm sorry. I shouldn't have joked lightly about this. It's no laughing matter." he turned his gaze to the graveyard, sadness looming in his eyes. He knew all too well what Elsa was going through though, parents were not always easy to get along with. He remembered that he and his mom had his fights as well.
Lost on a hiking trail and in Norway, he wasn't sure if it was right to ask where Elsa had been at the time. It didn't seem appropriate.

A wry look appeared in Elsa;s eyes. This kid surprised her every few steps. Compared to her, a step was probably going at a snail's pace to him. "You know, not a lot of kids your age show that kind of respect," she said. Kids could be pretty empty headed or mean spirited when it came to that sort of thing.

He shrugged his shoulders, Elsa hadn't been the first adult to tell him that. "I know what its like to lose someone close to you is all." he replied. "Most people who haven't had that problem can just laugh it off without realizing how hard it is." There were times even now that he envied kids who still had their parents around. It was not easy to just shrug something as simple as losing a parent off.
"That and I've dealt with people who are much worse."

It would be years when someone actually would feel that sort of pain. Elsa nodded silently. Her emotions must have seeped into the rain, because some of the drops were turning into very very tiny snowflakes that were put down by the heavier raindrops or by the heat dissolving them into wisps that floated into the humidity. Wally was right, and she couldn't say anything that would have been different. She didn't dare ask who he lost. Ripping a person's wound to compare scars was cruel.

Wally felt the tension was getting worse. The idea of talking about lost ones was not easy, and Wally hated to admit, it bothered him more and more. His mom was not the only one he lost. There were others he had been too slow to save. It ate him every day but it didn't matter. He was sure that this guilt ate at Elsa, despite their families problems.
He slowly turned back to where he had dropped his flowers before returning to the woman. "I know that this is probably not something that most boys or kids do." he took out a few of the flowers out of the bunch and held them out to Elsa. "I think that your parents deserve some more flowers on their anniversary. That and it wouldn't be too much to see a lovely smile on your face." He winked.

Elsa blinked back that bite of tears. The last thing she needed was feeling tears freeze against her face. She wiped them quickly with the back of her hand. In that moment Wally had run to grab a handful of flowers. He held them out to her. She bit back a retort at his mild flirt. Just take the compliment, she thought. But he had them for his family, no doubt. She pulled out a few blooms, divvying the bouquet, and handed it to Wally. "Both for saving me from getting mugged and for your family," she explained

Wally smiled, thankful he had gotten a bit of a smile from her despite the turn of events. He had saved her life too. Which was something he was always thankful to do. He was surprised that she had given him some flowers as well. "...Thank you. It was the least I could do, I don't mind playing hero." His green eyes softened bit. "I know she'll appreciate these."

"I take it you play hero often," Elsa curtly pointed out. She wasn't asking if he did, with his attitude, she knew he used his speed for good instead of evil. She didn't want to take to scolding like a mother, but with his powers coming so close to her turf in defense, she had to be somewhat protective of her clients.

Wally blinked before smiling sheepishly. "Oh, from time to time," he replied, rubbing his neck. "I figured that my gift should be used for something good. Saving people seemed to be the best thing to do." He admitted, it was a child-way of thinking but Wally wasn't one to always to think things through quickly.
