Omar was excited. This was his band’s first big gig in a while, and it was promising to be really fun. He had made the albums and t-shirts with Namine’s artwork on them and had a booth for those items for the good of his band. Drinks and food booths were set up to get money for the charity people, who had kindly asked Omar and his band to be the stars of the event for the night, and Omar had gladly accepted. This town had done a lot for him, he’d love to do something in return.
He walked back and forth with a checklist, checking and re-checking before sound-check that everything on stage was set up right, everything looked good, and the amps were hooked up properly so they didn’t blow out during sound-check. Finally he stuffed his list in his pocket and ran through the night’s music with his band, plus any number of popular songs the crowd might request at the end. Sadly, there was no room for the hard rock or the cover Electric Indigo, but Omar had fit another, special song onto the list. He hoped Aqua came. He’d left her a note under her door specifically asking if she could stop by, at least for the last bit of the show. His plan wouldn’t work if she wasn’t there.
Finally, they were ready and the band hung out behind the outdoor stage for enough people to arrive that they could start. Omar was out and about though, watching avidly as groups of people began trickling into the stage area for the show. He was so excited!

Aqua hadn't wanted to go out, but a note from Omar and insistence from Namine to attend the event had her out the door. She had even been forced into one of the the band t-shirts with Namine's logo and Omar's face on it. She felt a little silly. But with the blonde proudly beaming over her art work spread across the tiny street concert, Aqua could only smile for the sweet girl. The two of them made there way through the crowd, buying their tickets and a few raffles for the charity. Aqua may have placed a good fortune spell on one of the fundraiser collectors with a wink to the blonde (who giggled).
They met up with Jane who volunteered to work the booth selling her father's merchandise. Selling CDs and t-shirts and heaven knows what other sort of thing they could have slapped his new album cover on. Namine was positively glowing when she got a t-shirt with the new album cover. Both Aqua and Jane shared a look over how adorable the blonde was since she slipped the black t-shirt right over her little white dress. It was the first splash of color they had ever seen on the girl.

"You know, it was super nice of Omar to book us this," Sunshine commented. In the spirit of the rock genre, she had doned her partner's signature red and black tones in her clothes. It felt weird wearing it, but hey, this was better that being stuck in a red apron all day. Her hands were still coated in flour, but that was slowly falling away. A small part of her was glad. Shadow and her hardly ever did anything as a duo, and when he said the charity concert Omar hosted was something he wanted to do, she had jumped right on board.
It's not a date, it's not a date. Shadow kept telling himself. But yet he was with Sunshine among the crowd, coming to cheer on some musicians - Omar's band. They had come to support a friend. Together. Despite them being out, Shadow had to keep himself in check. Sunshine had a boyfriend, and he wouldn't dare ruin a friendship by admitting he loved her. So, here they were, as friends, one wanting something more than the other.

Craig chuckled happily as he and his darling daughter made their way onto Magnolia Road, where a charity concert was being held. He had heard about it through the grapevine at the precinct, as some of the officers seemed to know the bloke who was running it and were attending themselves. The moment he mentioned it at home, Rhona had jumped on board faster than a frog on a lillypad. And so now here they were. Green eyes watched with delight as his daughter skipped ahead of him in excitement. "Slow down Love." he said, chuckling good naturedly as he did his best to keep a firm eye on her. There was quite the gathering and the last thing he needed was to lose sight of his child.
"Ok Da." Rhona replied, slowing down so that her father could catch up. She was just so excited! She had never been to a concert before, and she just couldn't wait to experience it all. "This is pure bril Da!" she said, grinning widely as she twirled about. She was practically bouncing with every step she took. Blue eyes looked about with wide curiosity and happiness, watching people move about and smell the food from the stands.
Some people even had t-shirts that had some band's name on it. It looked so fantastic! I wonder where they're getting those shirts. she thought, looking about with pursed lips. That was when she potted a booth selling merchandise. Behind the booth stood a familiar figure, the sight of which caused a gaso to leave her lips. "MISS JANE!" Without another thought, Rhona ran towards the booth with a bright smile on her face.
Craig cursed under his breath as he watched his daughter take off, quickly running after her so that he wouldn't lose sight. "Rhona don't run off!" he called out, coming to a stop right behind her at the merchandise booth. The blonde girl had the mindset to at least give her father an apologetic look but it didn't last long as she tugged at his sleeve.
"It's Miss Jane, Da." she explained, as if that should explain everything. Though it kind of did. "From school." turning back to the booth, Alice gave a bright smile. "Yuptae Miss Jane?" she asked, leaning against the booth. Craig shook his head at the sight, giving a polite smile to the woman who was apparently Miss Jane.
"Hello." he said kindly in greeting.

Omar grinned at the turnout. It was pretty good, a lot more people than at the bar, that was for sure. He walked over to the booth, where Aqua, Jane, Namine and a little girl and someone who could only be her dad were. He gave a wave. "Hey sweetie" he said to his daughter. "How are sales?" he turned to the faery woman who made his heart flutter and Namine ,pleased both of them were wearing t-shirts. "Namine! The shirts look amazing, and you look good in one, no lie" he affectionately ruffled her hair and then looked over at Aqua, smiling widely. "Thanks for coming, Aqua. This means so much to me, you have no idea" now he could put his plan into action. He looked over to the girl and her dad and grinned. "Hey kid, hi mister kid's dad. Is this your first time at a rock concert, kid?" she looked no older than nine or ten. He affectionately remembered Jane at around that age. Such a fireball. "Have a Tee, on me" he fished out a twenty dollar bill and laid it on the table, picking up a small t-shirt and a large and handing them to the father and daughter. "I hope you guys have fun"
He wandered away from the group and ran into Sunshine and Shadow. He grinned at them. "Hey guys! How's life been treating you two? I've got to go in a few minutes but be sure to check out the merch table. Jane's there and Namine is hanging out as well"
"Omar! Ten Minutes!" one of his band members called out and Omar gave the 'okay' sign before waving to Shadow and Sunshine-who had gained the nickname 'Shiny' in his head-and hoofed it back to the stage. He got up there and grabbed the microphone.
"Okay okay okay, howdy all you rockers out there! Ready to rock your socks off?!" he grinned at the cheers as people started gathering around the stage. His band gave him the sign they were ready to go and Omar picked up his guitar. "We're going to play some of ours, some covers and just a whole lot of good music for you tonight! But, no moshing or rough-housing please. There's kids and families and we don't want them getting hurt. On that note, let's all have a good time!" he strummed his guitar and people cheered.

Aqua and Namine stepped to the side as a young girl came rushing in, excited to see 'Miss Jane'. Her father following shortly after. But they were quickly distracted by Omar. He was pure smiles and grins as he greeted them all, bought a shirt for Rhona, complimented Namine and confusing Aqua. Why would it mean so much to him if she was in attendance? Aqua tried to ignore the strange flutter in her chest that let her with. She was getting ahead of herself.
"T-Thank you," Namine said, obviously quite pleased.
"Hello, Rhona. I’m selling things for the band," Jane explained. "My dad is – right here apparently! Sales, are good, dad."
He was in a hurry and didn’t have much time before set. She might have scolded him for cutting things too short between jumping on stage and hitting up the crowd. But she couldn't. Not when he bought Rhona a shirt. Rhona was a sweet girl, easily delighted by the fact that her teacher was there. Jane was eager to start teaching the class for real instead of just assisting. She only had to pass her exams and then she would be a fully-fledged teacher. She might even be able to teach at the school Rhona went to. One of the teachers was going on maternity leave. It would be nice to work with students Jane was already accustomed to.
"And you must be her father. I’m Jane. I’m teaching at Rhona’s school."
She offered the man her hand. It was strange to meet the parents of one of her ‘students’. She supposed since she was going into the field she may as well as get used to it. She then looked up to stage, as did everyone else to watch Omar take the spotlight like he was born to it. He was a natural performer. This came almost like second nature for him.

T-shirts and milling families were coming around where Shadow and Sunshine were standing. A man ran after his daughter, who was quealing in delight at seeing someone. It took both of them a while to register, but the bklonde family were Craig and, they assumed, his younger daughter. Aqua and Namine were by the stands, wearing shirts to commemerate the concert. Shadow would ahev bought one, but what risk would it have? Any time he had a bullet-vest or something of the like, holes would be ripped in the back. No need to ruin a perfectly good piece of clothing.
No sooner had that happened when Omar himself rushed in.
"Hey, at least he doesn't have fangirls tailing him," Sunshine joked teasingly.
"Nah, he'd just open an orphanage and send them there," Shadow added with the joke. The two of them had their laughs cut off when Omar himself came over to greet them. The homunculus gave a low 'bro=five' while Sunshine returned a happy quick hug before bouncing away. Irf Jane was here, she didn't want to give the wrong impression.
"Funny. We were just talking about going over there," Shadow said with a small smile.
The conversation, not surprisingly, ended with a bandmate giving Omar the stage cue. Sunshine just have enough time to call out "Break a leg!" to the troll. Once he was off, she looked at the crowds, almost all of them showing their support for the band. The weather had cooled down just a tick. It was still humid as heck, but the amount of people out...it made her forget monsters hung out here. "You know, minus the red sky, this...actually is a pretty nice evening," she gushed.
"Shadow nodded as he looked up. "Yeah. It makes me forget all the heaviness around here." He glamnced at the band booth, then at Sunshine. He might not be able to wear them shirts, but she certainbly could. Plus, he had some dollar bills burning holes in his pockets. "Say, Sunshine. You want a shirt? I can get one for you. And...well..." Time to swallow his pride. "...I could get one for Riku too."
"You'd do that?" Sunshine asked.
"...What are friends for?"
Shadow was walking to the sales kiosk at just the right time. The crowd was running over to the stage, and that left the sales booth still busy, but gave enough windows for opportunities. Omar was on stage now with his band, and that meant the focus would be on him. Sunshine was one of the few watching, trying in vain to imitate the band's logo with a lip gloss wand. Well, he could give her credit for creativity. Plus, Omar was just soaking the stage like water. The homunculus shook his head with a quiet chuckle, stopping to find Jane selling the shirts. Well, no duh she'd be here. She seemed busy, though, and that left him some time to look over the styles, deciding which ones to get. Maybe for himself to show support, he'd get a buff.

Rhona grinned brightly as she was greeted in turn, so pleased to see the teacher at the concert as well. Most kids probably didn't get eager at seeing teachers outside of school, especially during summer holiday, but Rhona wasn't most kids. Even with no longer having to hide about being a Selkie, she still got on better with adults than other children. And Jane was a wonderful woman. Kind and sweet, and an excellent listener. The last one was hard to come by in adults.
As Jane explained she was running the booth and bringing up her father, the apparently man in question appeared before them. Blue eyes widened as Rhona stared up at the man, her mind registering that she was seeing a Troll in real life and not in one of her books. She had a few dedicated to 'mythical' creatures to feel closer to the world she didn't get to experience til now. This was Miss Jane's dad? She didn't even look like a troll! Then again her book never talked about troll lasses. So maybe it was normal? Rhona wasn't quite sure. Craig all the while chuckled good naturedly at being called 'Mr. kid's dad" before returning the greeting in turn. "Hello tae you as well Mr. Miss Jane's Da"
Rhona nearly groaned at that, but reframed as she was asked a question. "Aye it is!" she answered, giving an excited nod of her head. Blue eyes widened as the Troll offered to buy her a shirt before placing money down on the booth. Craig began to open his mouth, to say it wasn't necessary, but the man was already off doing something else.
Well I suppose no harm done. he thought, giving a bewildered smile as he shrugged at his daughter's teacher. Rhona of course was ecstatic and eager to get her newly acquired shirt. Despite the fact she was wearing a dress, she didn't hesitate to put the shirt on over her outfit. The clothing hung down to her hips, leaving the skirt to poof underneath it. It was a little funny looking, but she was too pleased to care. Her first concert t-shirt! The girl did a spin as she admired the way it fit her meanwhile Jane was speaking to Craig, who's smile returned to his friendly shine as he reached out to shake the offered hand. "Pleasure tae meet ye. I'm Craig." It was nice to finally have a face to the famous Jane.
That was when the man from before's voice spoke out and both father and daughter turned their direction to the stage. It seemed the concert was about to start. With wide eyes and excitement pouring out her very being, Rhona grabbed her father's hand and began pulling him to the forming crowd. "It's starting Da!" she exclaimed, pulling hard with one hand while the other waved farewell to her teacher. "Bye Miss Jane!" Craig laughed at his daughter's antics, giving a farewell wave himself before he was tugged into the crowd.
"Easy Pup, dun want tae tear my arm off now." he said to her, chuckling before leaning down and scooping her up to place on her shoulders. "Much better." Rhona squealed with delight as she was placed onto her father's shoulders, cheering loudly with the crowd. Her hands raised up into the air, making devil's horns in each one like how she saw on tv.

Omar grinned at the crowd, spotting the little girl on her dad's shoulders making devil horns with her hands. He raised his own hand in a devil horn in response with a wink in her direction. People cheered louder. Especially when Omar did the first chords of his guitar, some people recognizing Castle by Halsey. He grabbed the microphone and began crooning the words into it, filling each word with a swell of emotion.
"Sick of all these people talking, sick of all this noise Tired of all these cameras flashing, sick of being poised Now my neck is open wide, begging for a fist around it Already choking on my pride, so there's no use crying about it
I'm headed straight for the castle They wanna make me their queen And there's an old man sitting on the throne that's Saying that I probably shouldn't be so mean I'm headed straight for the castle They've got the kingdom locked up And there's an old man sitting on the throne that's Saying I should probably keep my pretty mouth shut Straight for the castle...."
He continued singing the song as he sang the lyrics and played his guitar. This was what he lived for, and people loved him for it. He'd been various things over the years, but being a musician was truly his favorite so far. He ate every moment up being on stage. When the song finished Omar grinned at the crowd. "Wanna see a trick?" he put his guitar down and leaped into the air, flipping backwards and landing on his feet. He'd perfected that little trick in his days of piracy. The crowd roared in approval. "Thank you thank you, I'll be here the whole performance!" Omar joked and the crowd laughed. "Next is another cover, then one of mine" he said, and got his guitar ready as his band also prepared themselves.

Aqua guided Namine to some open seats, as close to the front stage as possible before leaving the blonde to mind their spot. Aqua headed to the concession stand, buying from the vendors. It was for a good cause, she reasoned. She had bottled sodas and two hotdogs and took them back to Namine. If they were hungry later, they could stop at the stand selling baked goods. Nothing hit the spot quite like warm pie, cookies or brownies, homemade from mother supporting the charity. She smiled as she watched Omar on stage, performing and just generally having fun. Open and carefree. His flip had caught her by surprise but she clapped along with the crowd when he landed safely.
The two women cheered, laughed and at one point Namine sang along, soft and easily lost in the crowd. Aqua only knew because her lips were moving. A light smile crossed the blonde's lips. Namine had listened to the soundtrack over and over again to get inspiration for the album cover. Namine probably knew Omar's song as well as Omar did. Aqua would hope since their apartment had been filled with Omar's music since the moment Namine got a copy of the CD that was going to be sold at the kiosk Jane was working. Namine simply did not possess the nerve to perform like he did. Which was too bad, in Aqua's opinion, Namine did have a pretty singing voice.
"Have fun you two!" Jane laughed.
Rhona was all but dragging her father behind her to get as close to the stage as possible. It was adorable. She remembered displaying the same exuberance when she was Rhona's age to listen to her father play. He hadn't been quite as famous back then. He was at least well known in the city. Jane smiled and turned back to the kiosk. Many people wandered off to go listen to the music. She was about to start listening too until she realized Shadow had joined her at the stand. He was looking over the shirts.
"Looking for something in particular?" she asked.

The crowd was going nuts. Among them was Sunshine, whooping and cheering. This was honestly kind of fn. She never got a chance like this, or, well, friends like this. Part of her wanted to go sit with Aqua and Namine, but chances were they were too busy having fun in their small duo thing. While the music played,, she strolled through to look at what they had on offer for a concession. She had brought her own water bottle to avoid trashing the Magnolia Road vewnue, which was already getting covered in piles of garbage. A scent of chocolate hit her nose...but she frowned. The baked goods had an underlying overly-greased smell to them, particuarly the beignets, which were just sitting in puddles of undrained oil. Yuck. But the cookies looked promising, so she managed to buy one of those.
"Yeah, what would you recommend for blondes?" Shadow asked Jane. He was looking at some the color varieties, trying to decide which would fit the couple. Okay, Riku wasn't blonde per se, but pale white of the Lafayette was close. He was looking at the heather blue, liking the sportiness without being over the top.

Rhona cheered loudly as Miss Jane's father did devil horns himself, it looked like he was looking right at her! Craig chuckled at her enthusiasm, grunting a little bit as she wiggled about in her excitement. He was going to need to lift weights soon as she was almost too much for his muscles to take anymore. I'm starting to get old. he thought, a sigh nearly leaving his lips. But now wasn't the time to worry about such things. There was a concert to enjoy. Neither father nor daughter knew the song that was started to be keyed up, but it seemed to be a popular one with how the rest of the crowd seemed to get hyped up. As the music picked up, Rhona began to bob her head to the beat.
[This is the best! she thought, her hands still held up in devil's horns. Blonde hair flew in the air with each toss of her head, the strands catching a few bits of fading light in the evening sky. As the song continued, she began to pick up the chorus and mouthed the words. She knew better than to sing, Da always warned her it was dangerous becuase she couldn't quite control her Selkie powers yet to not enchant people. But she could pretend she was singing, and that was fine.
The song then came to an end, and Rhona cheered loudly with the crowd, Craig doing the same though not nearly as loud as the pup on his shoulders. Upon seeing the flip done by the lead singer, Rhona gasped before tugging at her father's hands that held her legs. "Did you see that Da!?" she exclaimed in excitement. "That was so brill!"
"I saw, I saw." Craig answered, chuckling quietly. Though part of him worried if that was going to be a stunt his curious child would attempt to do at home. She was normally better than to mimic others, but when she saw something that really caught her attention well.... She's ten though, surely she'd know better. he thought. Better put cushions down everywhere when we get home. Just to be safe.

Omar raised his arms in a victory pose. "You guys rock!" he shouted into the microphone and laughed loudly, exhilarated by the exhilaration of the crowd. His smile faded and he took the microphone in his hands. "Okay guys. I've lived a long time. I've had several lovers and several kids. None of the lovers are alive and only a few children are alive. But this song goes out to all of you who've loved and lost. Be it a romantic or familial love. This one's for you Danny. You'd be sixteen today, here's your favorite song" He nodded to his band and they started the music as Omar traded his electric guitar for his acoustic. He strummed as he sang into the mic.
"Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand
Jesus freaks out in the street Handing tickets out for God Turning back she just laughs The boulevard is not that bad
Piano man he makes his stand In the auditorium Looking on she sings the songs The words she knows, the tune she hums
But oh how it feels so real Lying here with no one near Only you and you can hear me When I say softly, slowly
Hold me closer tiny dancer Count the headlights on the highway Lay me down in sheets of linen You had a busy day today..."
Tears pricked his eyes as he remembered his son, five or six wearing a Peter Pan hat and staring up at his dad with utter hero worship in his eyes. Omar remembered whenever Tiny Dancer came on the classic rock station. It didn't matter how tired he was, he'd grab Danny and swing him high, singing with his son the lyrics they both knew by heart. Danny might have been little but he already had a voice like his dad's. He would have been a knockout singer if he'd lived. Omar glanced into the crowd. For a second, he thought he saw Cindy and Danny, singing along. He blinked and they disappeared.
The song ended and Omar wiped his eyes with the back of one hand and took a minute to compose himself. "Okay, now onto one of our songs" he said as brightly as he could manage at the moment. He felt better when people cheered.

One of the sweetest most thoughtful things about Omar when he performed was that when he sang a song, he told everyone why it was meaningful to him. That and he poured his heart and soul into his music. Aqua could just feel the raw emotion washing over her as he sang. Perhaps it was because her earliest childhood memories involved her being surrounded by music, whether from her mother or her father. OR perhaps Omar was naturally talented enough to invoke those emotions. Or perhaps both. Loss... It was never easy. She lost her parents. She lost Terra. She... lost Riku. She knew loss. But the loss of a child was never something she could ever imagine going through.
Namine could only smile sadly. She never got to meet Danny. From the way Omar talked about him, she wished she could have. Omar had even made Danny's favorite cake when he came to see her after her little melt down. Sweets, he said, were something kids liked. They never failed to make even the worst situation better. But she still sang along, albeit softly.
Jane swallowed thickly when she heard her father talking about Danny. The little boy who should have been talking about getting his driver's license and getting crushes or going to the mall, but was taken too soon. She took a deep breath, shook her head and turned back to Shadow. The shirts. Right. She was selling for her dad after all. He got a cut of the profits, as did the charity.
"Well, that blue one works," she said, pointing to the light blue one that Shadow had been eying. "But a navy blue would work too or an emerald green."

The emotions of loss were not at all being sent on some crowd members. Sunshine was standing by herself as her partner was at the T-shirt stand. As Omar dedicated the song to Danny, she reached for her wallet. She unfolded the leather folds, and reached until she found it. There it was, the picture of Joaquin. She unfolded it slowly, staring at it, her eyes welling up as Omar sang. Danny was a lucky kid, to have a father who cared more than anything for his offspring. Joaquin hadn't been any of those.
Shadow waited patiently for the emotions of the song to end. Or at least, for Jane to relax. Because he, too, was feeling the weight. Maria hadn't exactly been his kid, but there were times where it felt like it. Where Maria had no parental figures, safe for the professor who was busy with his multiple experiments to try and change the world. He had tried to protect Maria, to save her, but in the end he failed. His eyes glassed over, one tear refusing to fall. He hoped Jane didn't catch on.
"Um, I'll take this," he held up the light blue. "one in medium and the other in large. Thanks, Jane."
