"That's... Listen, Yang, you're human. Live how you want to live." Aqua said.
She might have made a few mistakes yes, but it's her life. People like Aqua should only do so much to meddle in those sorts of things. She was starting to realize that now. Her friends might have meant well (like Aqua had) but they might end up making a bigger mess of things. Someone like Yang needed the freedom to live her life. She saw this now, that there were people like that. She also felt humbled by the lessons she learned with each interaction with humans. How could faeries see an inferior species?
"No regrets, okay?"

Yang gave a little laugh. "Yeah, no regrets," she agreed. That had been a hard lesson to learn. Heck, she'd probably need to learn it more than once. She'd been consumed with regret for so much of her life. Regret over not being able to save her parents, regret over letting Vanitas into her mind, regret over the actions she'd taken against Thrax. Dealing with the "what ifs" for each scenario had been something tough for her to get through. She still found herself thinking it sometimes, but she found it was easier to tune out stuff like that, now that she had a good support system. And if she could do some good as an officer, then she felt like it might balance out any of the bad she had done.

"You're going to do just fine," Aqua reassured her. "Besides, most rookie cops get a senior partner. That's... how it was with Riku and I."
Since she and Riku had her falling out, perhaps Riku would be reassigned to Yang, to show her the ropes. Aqua offered a meek smile after that. It would do Riku some good to have a different partner. He really branched out when he had taken on a temporary position with Sunshine, though it might have been more fun than actual work since they start dating afterwords. She never really did get to tease him for it.

Yang didn't notice the slight hesitation in Aqua's voice when she spoke about Riku. Instead, she thought for a moment who might be her partner. Everyone cop friend of hers already had a partner. Aqua had Riku, Sunshine had Shadow, Pitch... Now that she thought about it, she wasn't sure if Pitch had a partner or not. If he did, nobody had mentioned it. She wasn't sure if Pitch was the partnering-type anyway. He seemed more like the solo type of person. "Well, hopefully it'll be someone who doesn't mind my record," she said. If she got saddled with a cop that wasn't too fond of her, or had tangled with her in the past, it would be a very strained working relationship. Maybe Shadow or Sunshine could put in a word for her, see if she could be put with someone she'd work well with.

"I could try to put in a word for you?" Aqua offered. "Make sure you're with someone who won't give you a hard time?"
They could always rotate partners if that was the case, that way Yang could work with different cops and not just one. Biases tended to happen if you were taught by one person. Each person had a different way of doing things. Aqua wanted to see Yang succeed. She deserved some good luck. As for partners, Sunshine also worked at her family's bakery. Sometimes she could get really busy. Perhaps Shadow could help.
"I'm sure Shadow would work with you when Sunshine's out. She only works part time after all."

"That'd be cool," Yang said. Shadow already knew a lot about her and how she did things, and vice versa. They'd probably make an interesting duo. In a way, he had sort of become a father figure to her over the past year or so. Granted, Omar was already one too, but there was no harm in having another person have the role as well, and Shadow seemed to fit into it pretty well. She just hoped they didn't come across any situations where they both lost their tempers. If the both of them got angry at the same time, the results could be catastrophic. Yang felt like that was something she found relatable in Shadow though. They both could be very explosive when they were mad.

"We've got some time before your exam. You could talk to the others and see what they want to do." Aqua said.
Yang had time for her decision in partners. Aqua hadn't had a choice. Riku was assigned to her because Terra's disappearance left a vacancy in the partner roster system. At first she had been resentful, but Riku had been a great partner. He had even helped her recover from her own loss. It was funny how just a single reassignment could do. Riku had been burdened with her anger and her apathy, but had also helped renew her belief in humans in general.

"Yeah. I'm sure everyone will want to give me some type of advice before I take the test," Yang said. Shadow already had plenty to say when it came to dealing with her physical and mental recovery. Although, he did seem to be in pretty high hopes regarding that subject. It looked like he was confident in Yang's abilities. And Sunshine would probably want to give a tip or two. She had been eighteen as well when she had joined the Others Unit. Yang did wonder if her age would make people think she wasn't up to the task. Sunshine probably had some advice on that subject. Heck, some people still underestimated her because of her peppy personality. And she wasn't a headstrong fighter like Yang or Shadow, she could still put up her dukes when the situation called for it.

"Just do what feels right," Aqua advised. "And... be honest with your partner."
She had to learn that lesson the hard way. It was best not to let Yang fall into the same pitfall as Aqua had. Yang was smarter than Aqua was. So the faery wouldn't let the same things that befell her happen to the young blonde. Yang probably wouldn't be able to withstand the death of a partner, or losing a partner due to her own pigheadedness. The girl was still recovering after all.

"Seems like the whole honesty lesson has been floating around a lot lately," Yang said, taking another bite of her sandwich. She knew it was a good lesson and all, it just felt like it was popping up everywhere she went. There was being honest about her condition, and telling her friends if something was bothering her. And now, there was being honest with whoever she would work with in the Others Unit. Honesty had to be applied everywhere, or your relationships would fall apart. It'd taken a long time for Yang to learn how to open up and actually tell people what was going on. She hadn't wanted to burden people with her problems for so long, and sometimes, she hadn't been sure if they would even understand what was going on inside their head. But, being honest was really the best thing to do. And even if her friends didn't understand, they could make her feel better just by listening.

"I know what you mean," Aqua said.
She had been going through the same thing. She smiled a bit wearily. It was perhaps being the 12 hour shift getting to her. She needed to repair her friendship and partnership with Riku, before she lost him to her own arrogance. She had hurt him, deeply. Yang wasn't like her. She wouldn't do anything as stupid as Aqua had. She was a sweet girl, if a bit of a hothead. But that wasn't the worst trait anyone could have.
"Don't worry about it too much yet. You've still got exams to do." she laughed. "The written one was the worst."

"Ugh, that's the part I'm worried about," Yang said. "Like, I can punch people easily. I've always been good at that. But learning all this stuff?" She held out the book detailing all the laws in Bellerouge. 'This is nuts! I've never been a great book learner. I've always been better at the physical stuff." She was sure she'd get the hang of it. Shadow certainly thought so. But it would take a while though, and she wondered if she'd get the hang of it in time for her test. There was enough pressure in this to begin with. This was her shot at getting the job she'd wanted so badly as a kid. She could do something that let her do what she loved, and help other people. She just had to get the hang of this stuff.

"Yang," Aqua said gently. "You don't have to have this memorized right away. There's nothing wrong with taking as long as you need. There's no pressure."
Granted, that couldn't be said when Yang actually became a police officer. Yang would have to be right because if she was wrong, a murderer could walk away. Luckily, Yang wasn't going to be a part of the crime scene team. Just the usual beat cop who chased down criminals. They would be given the evidence and Yang would have to make sense of it. Yang was a smart girl. She could figure these things out. It also helped that she wouldn't be alone for her first year as a cop. She would have a partner who would show her the ropes and teach her how to figure these things out.

"I know, I know. I just...I want to make a good impression, you know?" Yang said. "I mean, you and some of the other people there like me. Others, probably not so much. If they're gonna take me seriously as a cop, I gotta show my stuff." God forbid someone showed up with a Frollo-like mind and suspected her every move, wondering if she'd go back to her criminal ways. She hadn't met anyone on the force who was quite as zealous as him, but still. There would probably be more than a few who would remember how she used to be, and she had to show that she was serious about this if she was going to have any hope of getting along with them.

"Yang, we're not going to let anyone bully you."
Yang was all but one of the cop family anyways. She had a soft spot in almost every officer. Riku bought her a freaking house! Shadow was training her. Sunshine gave her the her first 'on her feet' job once she decided to turn over a new leaf. Frollo was a special example. He was a horrible person that was allowed too much power and did abuse it.
