Most people came to the Nevermore Coffeehouse to socialize with friends, or just get something sweet to go before they headed off to work. Weiss, on the other hand, had come there today to think. She had a cup of coffee by her side as she poured over song after song on her phone. When she found one she liked, she scribbled it onto a notepad, as well as any variations or changes she'd have to make if she performed them with Omar. The first collaboration had gone pretty well, even if Weiss was a bit worried about Omar. He'd used the opportunity to call out an old friend of his through song, which Weiss had to admit was kind of ballsy on his part. Still, she knew what it was like to yearn for freedom, having felt like her own home was a prison for years. Even if she felt anxious about Omar's safety, she had to applaud him for lyrically sticking up the middle finger at his oppressors. Other than that, singing had given her some confidence, and she was going through the Internet, trying to find more possible ideas. Some people had been shocked, to see her on a stage of all things, but singing had felt so good. And any compliments she'd gotten made her beam. She was getting praise for something she'd worked hard on, not something she'd just inherited from her parents. And that made her proud. She scribbled on a notepad, failing to notice that a familiar face had walked through the front door of the coffee house.

While it was still somewhat early in the day for most people, for Anna it was the perfect time to take her lunch break. After all, she had arrived at the BPD at the crack of dawn that morning and had been working diligently since her arrival. And despite the fact that she was still under surveillance, she'd managed to get a good chuck of her casework filed to a point where she felt perfectly fine stepping out for some lunch.
So it was that she found herself entering the Nevermore towards the later part of the morning, her stomach rumbling with a pleasant hunger that she hoped to satisfy with the cafe's delicious turkey avocado sandwich. In no time at all she had placed her order at the counter after entertaining the cashier with one of her 'bad jokes' and was looking for a place to sit and wait for her food when she spotted a familiar white ponytailed head.
Anna was somewhat surprised but it quickly gave way to happiness as she walked over to the slender figure's table. She stood just behind the young woman and cleared her throat briefly before speaking in a cheesy, over-the-top James Bond accent.
"Hey there Snowflake, what's a girl like you doing in a place like this?"

Weiss didn't even notice Anna approach her table until she cleared her throat and spoke to her. She jumped slightly, but relaxed when she saw who it was. "Hey Anna," she said. "Just doing some...work, I guess you could say. Non-voodo related work." For someone who'd gone through some pretty rough stuff, Anna seemed to be in good spirits. Maybe she was doing better? Weiss still remembered Sunshine saying how she was trying to move on from the experiments she'd been doing. Weiss felt a pang of guilt, remembering how she'd kept the whole thing a secret when she'd found out. She just hadn't had the heart to tell Anna to quit while she was ahead. It would have been hypocritical of her, considering that she had been bonding with her shadow spirits at the time.

When Weiss gave a small jump, Anna couldn't help but grin widely at her as she turned and saw who it was. The medical examiner didn't let it show, but she was happy to see that the young woman looked good despite the troubles and danger she had recently faced. She herself had been struggling with her own problems when all the stuff happened with Weiss but from the things she had heard in passing around the BPD and from her coworkers she thought she knew the gist of it.
As these thoughts passed across her mind, she realized that Weiss was looking at her in a very similar way. Without meaning to, she reached up and brushed at her bangs where they were white. It looked like that part of her hair would never change back to its previous strawberry blonde but it could have been so much worse.
"Glad to hear you're keeping yourself busy. I know last time we talked you seemed to have a lot on your mind even if we didn't talk about it."
She then gave a little jerk of her head to the seat across from the young Lafayette before looking at her and raising an eyebrow.
"Mind if I join you while I'm waiting for my meal?"

"Yeah, and that's putting it lightly," Weiss said. No doubt Anna knew at least some of what had happened to her. Her case had sent the whole Others Unit into a frenzy. A girl her age with that kind of power, some people still found it worrying. They were probably wondering if she would snap like that again. But Weiss knew that the only thing that would ease their worries was time. Once some time had passed, and she showed that she wasn't that way anymore, they wouldn't be so anxious about it. Anna asked if she minded if she joined her and Weiss shook her head. "Oh, no, please make yourself comfortable," she said as she pushed her notepad to the side. "I should probably take a break anyway. I've been going through songs on the Internet all morning."

"Oh yeah? Find anything good?"
Anna spoke lightly enough as she slid into the seat opposite Weiss, the large smile still on her face but watching the younger girl closely for any signs of anxiety or depression. From everything she had heard Weiss had faced horrible trials and dangers recently. And the medical examiner knew from her owl personal experiences how hard it could be to move passed guilt, anger and sorrow. She could only hope that Weiss wasn't struggling as badly as she had been after the fiasco with her serum, and if she was that she would open up about it to the right person.
"I'm not picky myself when it comes to a genre of music but I do have a few personal faves."

"I've got some possibilities, I guess you could say," Weiss says. "It'll just depend if Omar and the others think we can pull it off." She was still getting a feel for the kind of music Omar liked doing. He played some heavy stuff every now and then, but he could also do songs that were a little more gentle and had thought-provoking lyrics. "Have you seen Omar's band perform before?" she asked Anna. "They're called the Bilge Rats. Not the most glamorous of names, but they're pretty good." She didn't really care about their reputation that much. She was just glad they'd let her join. A rock band like theirs and a prissy girl like her didn't exactly go hand-in-hand that often. But Weiss was nicer than she used to be, and Omar wasn't bitter about anything bitchy she might have said to him.

"Omar? Omar...."
Anna felt the name tickling the back of her mind but couldn't quite put a face to the name. Scratching her head lightly in thought with her tongue sticking out of her mouth, it took her a few moments to finally recall the red-haired troll that she had only seen in passing. Her face lit up at making the connection and she snapped her fingers.
"Oh yeah, Omar! I've seen him from time to time around the BPD but never really talked to him. I'm usually downstairs working but I remember Aqua told me a little bit about him a while back."
She didn't add that the few times she had spotted the Troll he had been behind bars for some petty crime. No need to bring up something like that, especially since both of them seemed to be trying for a lighter state of mind.
"The name "Bilge Rats" doesn't ring any bells but if they've ever played at the Bourbon Graisse before I've probably heard them and just not known it."

Hanging around the Others Unit offices huh? Weiss wondered if it was to hang out with cop buddies or if it was because he was behind bars at one point. She'd heard about him having run-ins with the law a few times. But that seemed to come with the territory when it came to guys who were hard rockers. Besides, it wasn't like he had a bad reputation with every cop there. He was practically a father figure to Yang, and he and Aqua had something romantic going on. Weiss figured their relationship was tenuous at best, but she hoped it turned out okay. Everyone could use a little more love in their life. Anna commented on how she didn't know the band name specifically, but may have just heard them play without knowing who they were. "They have had a lot of gigs there," she said. "Although when I sang with them, it was an actual performance space. A small one, but it was still pretty cool." Maybe a performance at the Bourbon Graisse wasn't too far in her future, although Omar might be paranoid about some of the customers getting too rowdy with her. She was still a minor after all, and Omar was protective.

"Well I've been going to the Bourbon for a while so must have heard them. I don't generally pay all that much attention to the entertainment and just talk to the bartender, Axel."
Even as she mentioned Axel, Anna could feel her cheeks starting to heat up in a blush that she seemed unable to stop. Why in the sweet world was she blushing? She was literally just talking about him and yet despite her efforts the color had crept into her face. Ok, so they had just started dating and she felt very strongly about the Fire Demon, but so what?
Was it because she wasn't sure if she wanted people to know about her and Axel yet? Maybe....

Weiss didn't miss the blush that flooded Anna's cheeks when mentioning this Axel guy. If she was honest, it kind of reminded her of the way Elsa talked about Ralph. Or Riku about Sunshine. She gave a coy grin. "Is he a 'special friend' of yours?" she asked teasingly. Some might have felt bumbed out about everyone around them hooking up, but Weiss didn't feel jealous about it. If anything, she was glad that the people she cared about were finding love. Riku had been through so much, and Elsa was in a position where finding love was tough. Weiss felt intrigued about this Axel guy, and wondered what kind of romance he and Anna had between them. Was it a forbidden love? A Cinderella-type romance? Or was it the kind of love where they couldn't stand each other at first, but then slowly fell for each other?

When Weiss smiled a coy smile at her, Anna knew that the other girl had put two and two together. And when her white-haired companion asked about it, all she managed to do at first was grin like an idiot and give a nervous little laugh. However, she was spared from answering right then and there when the cashier she'd been joking with appeared.
"Hey Anna, got your sandwich right here for you."
With that said, he put a plate with her meal on it and turned to leave with only a single curious glance back at her. One thing about the Nevermore staff was that they didn't ask a lot of prying questions even to the customers they knew well. Anna gave a small wave before looking down at he sandwich. It looked great as it always did but she didn't tuck in simply because she knew Weiss was still waiting for an answer.
"Well....yes, he is. Only it only just happened so I'm not sure if either of us wants it made common knowledge. You know?"

Anna was spared from answering immediately as she went to get her sandwich. By the time she got back though, Weiss still had that coy smile on her face. It was funny. Anna could talk about her interests a mile a minute, but she seemed a little nervous mentioning this Axel guy. Then again, she did say it was pretty recent. No doubt she was still getting used to calling the guy her boyfriend. Heck, Riku still got a thrill out of introducing Sunshine as his fiance. "Don't worry, my lips are sealed," Weiss promised, miming zipping her lips shut. "Seems like my friends and family are on a roll when it comes to finding love. Elsa, Riku, you, who's next?" She folded her hands under her chin. "So, what's he like? Have you guys known each other for a while?" Weiss had no idea what type of guy Anna might be into. Would she fall for a guy that had similar interests to her? Or would she not mind someone who was into stuff that was completely the opposite?

"Thanks."
Anna didn't exactly feel relieved at Weiss keeping quiet on her and Axel's relationship, but it was good to know that she wouldn't go starting gossip or rumors about them. That was really the last thing anybody needed. However, the white-haired girl wasn't about to left her off the hook quite yet and started to ask questions about Axel.
For a moment Anna didn't know what to say. How did you describe a guy like Axel to someone like Weiss? Tell her about his job working the bar at Bourbon Graisse? Describe the wicked smile of his that made his green eyes seem to flash? Go on about how he seemed like such a bad boy to everyone else and yet treated her like something more precious then gold or jewels? Whatever she might have planned on saying in that instant of silence, it wasn't what finally came out of her mouth.
"He saved my life."
What the sugar-coated heck? Why had she said THAT of all things? Weiss had just asked what he was like and what had she immediately said? He'd saved her life. Definitely not the kind of answer anyone would be expecting out of a simple little question like that. Yet despite the jarring answer she didn't feel like what she had said was wrong. No, if anything it felt right to say that.

Weiss's grin faded. She hadn't been expecting a heavy answer like that. "Oh," was all she said in response for a moment. What else could she say? She was quiet for a moment before speaking again. "Did it have to do with the...serum experiments you were working on?" That was the only thing that came to mind. She felt another surge of guilt at keeping quiet about that. Anna had been put in danger because she hadn't said anything. Who knew what might have happened. Granted, Dorian hadn't said anything either, but Weiss still shouldered some blame. She wasn't sure if anyone would actually blame her for not telling someone about it. Her social circle had been pretty forgiving of everything else she'd done. But she hadn't exactly told anyone that she'd known Anna was working on an experiment that had been potentially dangerous at the time. The incident had happened quite a while before her shadow spirit problem had taken the spotlight. Why drag what Anna had done back into the fray?
