"Hey, you've been looking out for me for a long time. I figure I should do the same for you in return," Yang said. Although Shadow did have a point. Between him and Omar, Yang was never lacking in the father-figure department. If she was honest though, Shadow was probably the more reckless out-there parent than Omar was. If Yang wanted to punch someone, Omar would probably advise her to try and talk things out first. Shadow, on the other hand, would probably be punching right alongside Yang, especially if it was someone who'd made her upset. Shadow's face fell a little though, at the comment about how he was pretty much one-of-a-kind. It would make anyone feel like a freak. Not to mention, half of him was demon. That was probably double freak, in some people's eyes. A half-phoenix like Yang was rare sure, but it didn't carry nearly half of the negative stigma as demons did. "People need to get over this whole demon-avoidance thing," she said, sighing gruffly. "They don't do every single bad thing that happens in this city. And plenty of them do good."

“Flattery isn’t going to get you a raise, if that’s what you’re trying to do,” Shadow joked. But Yang did make him feel better with what she said. He was still adjusting to being helped by other people in the department. Not everyone had been on his ‘trust’ page, but it was a lesson he was slowly learning. If people trusted him, he’d have to learn to trust them in return. He picked at his leftover crust, mulling over the half-demon comment. “It’s a slippery slope in this town. Demons literally rained ten years ago and a lot of people died. Hard to forgive ten plus years of hurt. Sure there are demons on the side of good, but the prejudice doesn’t disappear overnight.”

"Oh ha ha," Yang said sarcastically, although she also smiled. Shadow seemed to feel better after what she said, and that was the important thing. She didn't care if everyone in the whole city was against Shadow, or even the whole world. She'd back him up, no matter what. That was how she'd always been with her friends. She was "go hard or go home" when it came to defending them. "There's good and bad people in every race though," Yang said, sipping on her drink for a moment before continuing. "People should look at our arrest records sometime. We've brought down plenty of witches and werewolves and fairies and other stuff. Demons aren't the only Others we go after."

"Or, oh, I don't know, actually get our interviews right. Why do you think I'm at the training yard shooting newspapers for practice?" If it something that made his quills prickle the most about reporters, it was how they always twisted the story. Cops nearly died defending people from a rampaging beast, and the article said that only one cop got by with the skin of his teeth.

Yang snickered. "Maybe I need to remind reporters how well I can deliver a punch," she said, flexing her metal fingers. Of course, half the reason reporters didn't bother her was because of Adrien. With his money, he could ruin any journalist that harassed Yang like they did during her recovery. Granted, they probably still posted not-so-nice stuff about her on online forums and what-not, but Yang wasn't too concerned about that. She just didn't want any more reporters cornering her for questions or stalking her house. So far, she hadn't had a chance to use the sprinkler system Adrien had installed, and she was a little disappointed. It'd almost be worth it, to see journalists fleeing in terror as water sprayed up everywhere.

Shadow made a light fist. "Yeah, and we've got people on our side that we can pay to make sure we get it right. Speaking of which, the gossip about you and Adrien has been...kind of quiet. Puts me at ease in a way." Whether it was Yang's fists slash police service or Adrien buying the paparazzi to back off, it was relaxing to find something other than some awful gossip. He was still waiting for a day when a mic got knocked out of the hand by a frustrated blonde. He would probably be alongside.

"Adrien did kind of tell them to piss off, especially when people started thinking he was 'cheating on me' with Namine," Yang said. "And it was on T.V. too. It was pretty satisfying to watch." Sure, a few people wondered if maybe Adrien had gone too far, but Yang thought it was perfect. He hadn't knocked anyone's heads around like she would have, but his words still had a lot of weight to it. People knew he wasn't playing around. "At least nobody's harassed Namine about he and Adrien's 'scandalous' sibling relationship," she said. "'Cause if they did, I'd knock 'em out in a heartbeat." Yang didn't know Namine entirely well yet, but she was Adrien's family, and that meant she was ready to protect her at a moment's notice.

Shadow rolled his eyes. Of course reporters would break up a grear romance with some story without facts to back it up. Adrien and Namine were half siblings. Gross. The thought of them in a relationship, even if it was unknown, rubbed him the wrong way. “Great idea. Turn a benefactor and his sister into the Lannisters,” he muttered sarcastically.

Yang nearly snorted out her soda at Shadow's comment. "Kudos for the pop culture joke," she laughed. "Honestly, they thought the same thing once Adrien set the record straight. They were probably horrified that his 'mystery woman' was his half sister." Yang felt like it was a just reward though. That was what happened when you started spinning stories without getting all the facts. She downed the rest of her soda before saying "I should probably head out. It's getting late. Thanks for talking with me and stuff." She still wanted to keep an eye on Shadow, make sure he was doing alright and what-not. But Mardi Gras didn't make her feel quite so queasy anymore. And spending the holiday with her uncle-figure would do her some good. "I'll see you on Mardi Gras, okay?"

Shadow had no time to lock the flying soda in his direction. So, he got hit with the fizzing liquid, grateful Yang didn't choke on the burning fizz from her laughter. He was laughing, too, not at her but with her. Okay, maybe a bit at her, too. "Glad to know someone gets my pop humor." Sometimes when he would make jokes like it with Sunshine, she'd look at him like he had grown an extra head. The laughter ended and Yang excused herself. Shadow wasn't going to stop her. He had his own assignments to catch up on, too. She thanked him for talking, and he nodded gently. His daughter-niece asked if she'd see him out at Mardi Gras, to which he said, "I wouldn't expect anything less." ((end thread))
