“What? But you’re so creative!”
But as she said that, Sunshine realized outside of criminal profiles, she had never seen Namine draw anything else. Was she creative? Did she use her artistic skills when she was off work like Sunshine did? Was there an entire wall dedicated to finished sketchbooks? What did Namine draw if she had free will?

Namine felt her face heat up. It still made her blush when people said things like that. That was saying something because both Adrien and Omar were fond of their compliments. She hadn't really done anything creative, though she was sure Aqua and Omar would disagree. She had after all made Omar's new album cover and had a few pieces sold in galleries. But most artists were their own worst critics. It even embarrassed her when Adrien told her to work for him.
"W-Well drawings are one thing and names are something else," Namine tried to defend.

Sunshine tapped her lip. There was a fine line between presenting something on a sheet of paper and coming up with a name for an animal. She wondered how Pascal got his name, but had never bothered asking Anna. Besides, she had no pets to really compare. After Nana, she had already moved out and Thomas was staying in her old room, much to his relief; sharing with a girl had been rough.
“You’re right. Finding a name for someone so special is difficult,” she agreed in the end.

"I wanted it t-to be something he'd like," Namine agreed.
She didn't want to name him something silly like Fido or Spot (when he clearly had none). She wanted a name with thought and love. Though, the mere suggestion of Lance, the dog seemed to like it a lot. Ultimately, it was his name. Aqua said he was smarter than the average dog too, so he had to know his likes and dislikes. Lance was good. It rolled off the tongue easily. It also made the dog happy, which was the most important part. Lance gave a snuffling sound and sneezed, quickly sitting back up as he got it out of his system. He looked between the two of them, his tail wagging.

There was a loud muffled sneeze from close by. A big furry head riding up confirmed that it had been Lance who sneezed. He was looking at both blondes, a silly-guilty expression in his face. Sunshine laughed at the dog’s antics. He was a good match for a demure sweet girl like Namine. She hadn’t seen the fighting, but why would a cutie like Lance be thrown in there? It didn’t seem right. He was where he belonged now.

"S-So... Are you excited?" Namine asked. "A-About the wedding?"
She had seen Riku and Sunshine interact at the office. They were adorable together. Riku was like the prince charming every little girl dreamt of falling for. He was sweet, caring and gentle. He was even helping his little sister after what their parents had done. He was truly an admirable person. Sunshine, well, she lived into her name. She brought light to the room just by walking in and being herself. She all but glowed and everyone adored her for it.

“To be honest, a little nervous, but excited. Now that the stress of planning is done, it’s kind of sinking in.”
It was such a strange mix of emotion. She was happy and she was sad at the same time. Her old life of a scrubby artist slash baker slash cop was over. She was going to get married to the equivalent of royalty, which made her a princess. At what cost? Learning an ancient magic that she wasn’t quite certain of. It was one thing to have sun powers, it was another to be studying voodoo.

"B-But isn't that just normal wedding nerves?" Namine asked.
She had never been in love before. She wouldn't know what it would be like to know that she was about to commit her life to someone so important to her, but she knew she would likely feel the same way. Excited. Nervous. Eager to get to it. But she was so happy for Sunshine. If anyone deserved to have someone like Riku, it was her. Besides, nothing was more beautiful than two people who truly loved each other. Namine could see that. She had wished as a little girl her parents had that, but things were different now that she realized that her mother truly didn't love her father. She loved Adrien's father.

“I guess,” Sunshine said with a half shrug.
It was so much all at once. Her mother had remarried when Sunshine was eight, years after her biological father had left the house. John and Wendy loved each other, sure, but Sunshine still could see the cracks of hurt beneath her smile. She didn’t want a romance that ended in leaving people glued together, nor did she want some cheesy fairy tale. She wanted something true. While she felt that with Riku, the tiniest bits of doubt were starting to come up.

"What's wrong?" Namine asked.
Sunshine's response to her own nerves was a little concerning. Did she doubt Riku's intentions? Namine shifted a little in her seat. She wasn't good with that sort of stuff. As if sensing the change in mood, Lance decided to make himself useful, by laying down in between them, with his head resting in Sunshine's lap. He peered up at her with big eyes, his tail dragging against the ground as he did. Namine had to fight back a laugh.

A furry weight pressed on Sunshine’s lap. Like an unexpected lap pillow, Lance had settled between her and Namine. His eyes were big and yearning. She set her hand on Lance’s head, giving it a little pet.
“Well, my parents had a lot of...unhappiness. My father left my family and...I never understood why. I’m just...scared of it happening to me.”

"I don't t-think it will," Namine said with surprisingly more conviction than she was used to using.
Just like her namesake, Riku looked at Sunshine like she was the literal sun. She was the first time he was seeing it and to him, it was beautiful. She was beautiful. Namine remembered the fond expression that crossed Riku's face when he saw her at Adrien's party, how he quickly excused himself to go to her rescue upon her slip. She had never seen that look on her father's face, not once, when he had interacted with her mother. She did, however, see it on Omar's face when he spoke of Aqua.
"R-Riku is different from your dad or even m-mine." Namine said. "I d-don't think he could do that."

The boldness in Namine’s voice surprised Sunshine. She was so used to hearing the demure stuttering. But the little blonde, who could have passed as Maria Gerald’s sister, was looking sure of it all. They both felt the sting of having a father leave or not becwho they appeared. Why had she not talked with Namine before? There was a of common ground beneath them.
She smiled, albeit small. “Thanks.”

"W-Why do you think that would happen?" Namine asked softly.
Sunshine and Riku seemed so happy. About as in love as Adrien was with Yang. It dawned on Namine that everyone she knew was in love. Love wasn't some magic cure all of course. It still required effort, tenderness and compassion towards the other. But Namine didn't know Sunshine well and only had brief contact with Riku. She didn't know how their relationship was going. It certainly sounded like something private. Namine was the least likely person to pry, but something had to be the cause of Sunshine's fear, right?

“I think what I grew up with, and what he grew up with, are starting to bleed into my thoughts,” Sunshine answered, looking up the tree overhead.
The leaves were budding. Come March and April, the tree would be in full bloom. Leaves and all. Maybe she would be looking at the wedding at the same way. It was a sign of spring. Well, late spring was the set date anyways. Riku loved her, and she doubted that he would do what her father had done. Namine was right; she dhouldn’t be getting worried if he was devoted. They had already discussed buying a fixer upper at the end of Riverfront. That was usually a second step to marriage. If he wascthat dedicated, he loved her.
