Namine smiled. She had worn her Malbari out and the two of them were laying under the shade of a tree in Adrien's yard. Namine might have taken the dog to the park, but she was afraid that without a fence, he would run off. Instead, it seemed the dog was like her new shadow. She would have named him as such but there was already a shadow in the office. Adrien had been less than pleased with her canine companion, but no less supportive. He had even gotten her a good collar for him. Though a leash seemed unnecessary considering how attached to her the dog seemed.
He had even filled out. His injuries healed. Gaining some weight to his too skinny frame. If anything, his head currently looked too big for his body. Though, he was happy. Namine had bruises on her knees from his hard whippy tail. She just smiled and asked Aqua for a pair of jeans. The faery had been surprised but relinquished a pair of jeans to Namine's custody. She was probably surprised since it was the first splash of color that Namine had ever actually worn. But it was either opt for jeans or have weird glances sent her way because of oddly placed bruises on her knees.

Sunshine took a breath as she stepped into Adrien's yard. The only reason she had come by at all was to deliver the official wedding invitations. This was it. It was finally happening. She was getting married, and it was far too late to back out now. The only reason she had had come here was to invite the Agastes. Since Namine was part of the family, it included her.
She paused at the threshold. Right....the dog. It had been water cooler talk at the office. How Namine had gotten her hands on a big Malbari and had him as one of the most protective helpers ever. Sunshine felt stupid for not thinking of getting a dog herself. Her trauma of the vampire attack three years ago was still there, and if the woman she kept dreaming about was some kind of vampire queen, she was in trouble.
"Uh...Namine?"

Namine looked up, surprised that anyone had made it past the large gate that surrounded Adrien's mansion. But she smiled in relief when she saw it was just Sunshine. Her Mabari curiously padded over to Sunshine, a stick in his mouth, caught from Namine's last pitch across the large yard. The dog sat in front of Sunshine. His tail wagged and he dropped the stick in front of her, trying to coax Sunshine into spoiling him with attention as well. The big yard Adrien had was perfect for the dog while Namine trained him.
"H-Hi, Sunshine. What are you doing here?" she asked.

The huge black Mabari came over. Despite his size, the padding was gentle and a stick in his mouth, His tail was thudding on the grass and he looked up at her with the wide eager eyes of a dog wanting to play, She giggled and the antics. What could she do? Be an awful person and ignore a dog who was so eager to please? She was like him in a way. She picked it up and held it to one side, moving it around to keep his interest. After a few wave, she arced her amr and threw it across the yard. Now that she got that, she approached Namine with an envelope.
"I figured delivering these in person was more personal then waiting in the mail."

The dog jumped to his feet when Sunshine grabbed the stick. He jumped eagerly, trying to snag the stick back. When she pitched it through the air, the dog took off after it. Big feet quickly catching up with the stick. Namine giggled. She didn't know why, but seeing the dog so easily pleased with such a simple game of fetch was cute.
"Oh, thank you!" Namine said.
She took the envelope in hand. It was a dainty thing, with nice cursive writing on it, addressed to her and a second one was for Adrien. She knew her brother would want to do something nice for Sunshine and Riku. She would have to try to talk him out of anything too crazy.

Sunshine shook her head with a laugh as the dog clumsily bounded over. It was so astounding how the biggest of creatures, or those who seemed to be the most misunderstood, somehow became more adorable than their other counterparts. Her smile flashed to Namine's thanks before she settled next tot he cute little blonde.
"You're lucky you have a dog. Thomas and I never had the chance to have one. At least, not one that was young and spry. Nana was an old girl, been around since I was eight.'
Nana had been a good dog. She had been a large St. Bernard. A well-trained one, who loved and mothered Sunshine almost as much as Wendy did. When she had to be put down was one of the saddest days she had felt.

The dog missed the stick as it made it's way back to earth. It began to circle itself, nearly fumbling in an attempt to find the stick and bring it back as quickly as possible. Namine couldn't stop smiling. It had only been a few weeks since she got the dog and already she felt happier than she remembered feeling in a long time. Her mabari was a very good companion. Jane said it had something to do with Mabari being incredibly smart creatures.
"I-I didn't think I'd get to," Namine said. "But Aqua said if we took him to a shelter they'd put him down because he was a f-fighting dog."
Former fighting ring dog or not, Namine had promptly burst into tears upon hearing those odds. Aqua had soothed her that it would not happen. So he had stayed with her ever since, only parted when Namine had to go to work, but Adrien just broke it to her that he wanted her to come work for him. She wouldn't have to draw criminals anymore. Her drawings could literally come to life in fabric form. Wearable art. She was torn because the BPD was her start. They had done so much for her.

Oh, the poor thing. It fumbled trying to get the stick, but after a few failed attempts, the stick was back in its mouth. Namine was lucky to have a playmate and a guide to protect her. Fighting dog or not, he was a good match for the tiny figure. Black and white, quite literally. It contrast made her think of her partnership. The bubbly girl with purple and yellow paired with a stoic red and black homunculus.
"And then there'd be a fight with the courts to get him under your care and it'd be a mess," she sighed.
Why were people such jerks when it came to animal fights? She and Shadow had to investigate an illegal werewolf ring fight once. She still shuddered at seeing the younger werewolf get Mike-Tysoned. The ear couldn't be replaced, and the bloody mess...ugh.

The dog brought the stick back to Namine. But he laid down on his side beside her, chewing on one end of the stick. He seemed pleased when Namine scratched behind his ear. The big dog seemed like a monster, but really he was just a caramel colored softie. He was the sweetest thing. She never could have ever imagined him as a fighting dog. She couldn't ever see him being a fighter. But Aqua said she had seen the footage of the dog's fights. He had fought. She honestly didn't want to see him get hurt.
"I w-wanted to keep him safe," Namine said. "But... I don't have a name for him yet."

Sunshine glanced at the pair sitting side by side. The contentedness made her melt inside. But then her eyes widened. Namine hadn't even given him a name? It couldn't be as bad as a weird code. She wracked her brain fro ideas. It had be something special, not one of the cliched names like Fido and Spot. He was too sweet to go to generalization.
"Well have you had people give you suggestions?"

"Hmmm... Jane said Fang." Namine said. "Aqua said Duke or Cooper. Adrien said Shadow since he follows me like one, but y-you know?"
Namine smiled. The dog rolled over on his back and Namine began to scratch his stomach. His foot began to scratch at the air. The names varied. She heard everything but she was open to ideas. She was partial to a few, but wasn't sure. She never had a pet before. Naming something was new to her. She wanted to be sure it was something the dog would like as well, and respond to. She certainly wasn't naming him Dog. That was the most unoriginal name to ever grace any dog and she unfortunately heard someone address their pet as such in the park no less.

Sunshine bit her lip to stop herself from laughing. She got what Namine was implying, but it was still funny. Heaven forbid Shadow and the dog were in the same room. She let that ease pass before looking over at the big guy. The names were good, but something about them seemed...overdone. The color of his fur was far too warm to be anything short of spectacular. He was also a protector, but he had too much of a personality to be named anything noble.
"How about Lance?" Sunshine suggested.
It was a quick hybrid of protector and silly. The name was casual, and a shortened version of "Lancelot", a knight sworn to protect.

"Lance," Namine said trying out the name. "W-what do you think?"
The dog cocked his head to the side, looking up at the two of them. His tail gave a slow wag before Namine had to put her hand down to stop him from hitting her with it. Aqua had made the threat a few times that they should dock his tail because it was a weapon of mass destruction and death to anything on the coffee table, including tea cups. However, the moment the dog would whimper and look up at her with big eyes, Aqua would apologize and clean up whatever mess he made.
"I think it might be a yes?" Namine guessed.

“Oh, that’s a good boy,” Sunshine cooed.
That massive tail of Lance’s was thudding the ground. Sunshine heard every impact it made be it a leg or the grass. It would explain the messy jeans that thankfully fit Namine. With all the bruises from a wagging tail, people would have thought she was living in an unhealthy environment. No, it was just unintended hurt from a big guy with a heart of gold.

"I guess he's Lance now," Namine giggled.
She went back to scratching Lance's stomach. The dog made a happy noise and held his paws in the air in surrender to the belly rubs. She would have to get a new tag for him, with his name on it. He already had a collar, a nice red one that she had picked up for him on the way home from work one day. She smiled up at Sunshine. It was just happenstance that Sunshine happened to come by but she appreciated the fact that the other blonde was sitting with her and helping her figure out a name for the dog.
"Thank you," Namine said, "I didn't think I could figure out a name on m-my own."
