Another morning. President's Day meant a day off for children, and that often meant clients coming in with them. Elsa had shown some children out the door and massaged her temples. She had entertained the child with snow flurries until her magic had weaned her. But just as she was getting herself some tea, she heard the doorbell. Oh great. Another client. Elsa forced her face to be pleasant, hard to do with baggy eyes and a cup of tea, but hopefully it would pass.

Moses was nervous as all hell. He knew Vanitas was sneaking out at night, but as far as he knew there hadn't been a murder so maybe Van was just trying to clear his head. Regardless Moses knew he had to try to get Vanitas on a house arrest deal so at least he could be out of the dingy little basement he'd been in for the last several months. So on his day off, Moses went to Elsa's, like Pitch had told him to. He rang the door bell and waited with his heart in his throat until she opened the door. She looked awful. "I-I can come at another time" Moses stammered. "You look like you need some rest"

"Forgive me. I just finished with a client that made me use my powers to exhaustion" Elsa smoothed her messy white-blonde hair until it was back to normal. She had seen the young man standing at her doorstep before. Needless to say, his arrival was making her feel a bit more at ease. No children to entertain and drain her will to keep a child occupied.

Moses nodded. "Okay, that had to suck" he wasn't really a fan of kids himself, and Vanitas would probably try to murder any child that came close to them, so he couldn't say he had experience. "I have some questions to ask" he started nervously. But can we talk about them inside? And whatever you do, please please please don't call the cops or yell at me" he didn't think he could be able to handle any of that to be honest. All he wanted was something to help Vanitas.

A very angry flash appeared in Elsa’s eyes. Her lips thinned in contemplation. Who sent someone who didn’t want the cops, her biggest clients, to hear what he had to say? Maybe he wasn’t out as a spy and needed help. She couldn’t promise anything. This appointment would end sour. “Come inside,” she said, ushering him in. As she shut the door behind him, the temperature seemed to drop a few degrees.

Moses rubbed his arms as he went inside. He'd seen the angry flash, but he had to do this. "Pitch told me to come to you" he said as he looked around. It was a really big place. "He said you might be able to help me" Moses took a deep breath and turned to her. "My, my boyfriend is Vanitas" he started. "I want to help him get a lesser sentence. I want him in my house instead of where he is currently" Moses looked at her beseechingly. "Pitch said you could help" he said again.

Even if it had been a cop, it was a cop that the lawyer had been suspicious of. She had tried everything, from convincing herself of his good deeds to agreeing to defend him in a few trials, but Elsa couldn't shake off the fear when thinking of Pitch. So much so that every step she took created a small patch of ice on the marble floor. She was about to open the door to her office, when Moses said a name that made even her blood run cold.
"WHAT?!"
Ice flew from her outstretched hand. The good news was it didn't hit Moses. It instead flew to strike the base of a column. Her blue eyes were bright with rage now.
"You've got some nerve..."

Moses stumbled back at the outburst and the ice and covered his head with his arms. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" he cried out. "But I don't know who else to turn to. He's trying to turn over a new leaf, although it's slow going, and I...I just want to keep him safe. He means everything to me" he felt close to tears. Yea, he was in deep, deep trouble. But he couldn't abandon Vanitas to his fate. It just wasn't something he could do. "Pitch is someone I trust, but if you don't want to help, I'll go to someone who can" he stood straight and tall and started walking for the door. This had been a mistake.

Elsa’s eyes narrowed. He was a fool. Vanitas was a murderer who only loved himself. Working someone to the point of desperation in trying to save him...but then she stopped. She was letting her personal opinion cloud her judgment. She couldn’t bail Vanitas out, but she could help. Elsa brushed the frost off her door, opening her office.
“ If what you say is true and he’s trying to change, then unfortunately giving you pamphlets and saying get a job won’t be so simple. His record is ruined by the state of Louisiana.”
She booted her computer and sat her desk. The mug she held began to frost as she wracked her brain for ideas.

Moses stopped and turned as she opened her door and spoke to him. Honestly he was surprised. More than surprised. He was floored. She was actually helping him? But she'd been so...for lack of a better term, frosty. "I have a job, but being a waiter at a café only pays so much" he took a seat across from her and gripped the fabric of his jeans tightly. "It's in little ways. He seems to be making every effort in being nicer. I mean, he didn't try to kill a friend when she found his hiding place. Granted I was there but..." he ducked his head. He was rambling and making the situation worse. "I can write an appeal to the governor or something, if you'd think that would help. But Vanitas...he has no hope. I want to give him something, you know?"

Elsa leaned back in the silver leather of the chair, saying nothing but leaving her ears open. It still didn’t feel right, having someone who was openly dating a dangerous criminal. The frost in her eyes thawed slightly with knowing this Moses wasn’t asking the impossible.
“What I can do is direct you to some demon employment outlooks. A few weeks with them could prepare you a better paying job.”
She still didn’t like this. Yet, as an advocate for the Others rights, she had to respect them all. Even the admitted boyfriend of a felon.

"The demon employment outlooks? How did you know I was a half demon?" he didn't look like one, did he smell? He resisted the urge to sniff his shoulder. He was in front of a lady after all. Maybe he could ask Vanitas later. "I can organize things, or something. Make myself useful" It sounded like he was asking Elsa for a job. Nothing was coming out right. "If-if you know anyone that can use a secretary, I'd be happy working for them. I just need money to pay for...I don't know. Maybe a place for Vanitas to stay, that's better than where he's at" he felt helpless. "I love him so much" he whispered.

“I didn’t. The only clients I work with are Others,” Elsa admitted, “so I just...made an assumption.” Truthfully, Others were her only clients. The humans had ridiculed her for her powers. “But...hearing that does make it easier to point you in the right direction.” She held her tongue on her opinion of his devotion to Vanitas. She had seen it time after time, people inlove with felons only to be pulled like a puppet on strings in some way. She relaxed in her stance. “Do you have a resume?”

"Oh, that makes sense then" he nodded at her question. "Not with me, but I generally have to leave after a year or so. Working at the café has been the longest job I've been able to keep. My dad....Hexxus.....he keeps stalking me" Moses bit his lip and looked down. He'd just painted an even bigger target on his back for her to hit him with by telling her that, but he had to be honest. "I've been all over the city taking jobs, and before that I was on the streets. I think I'm doing okay, but it got harder trying to support two people and not just myself"

Demon stalking. Elsa leaned forward, genuinely interested now. This was something she could assist in. “And how long has your father been stalking you?” If he had been out in the streets, the target was wide. It was easy for him to be easily swayed into darker acts. It impressed her that he held out for so long against it, taking multiple jobs. She swung over to her keyboard, opening up a file of demon friendly employers. Or employers she knee would take demons...in a healthy environment. There was some hope.
