"At least you get along with people. I seem to be alienating I care about because of my choices" He nodded and looked down. "Yea, everyone's got secrets. I think Van's keeping some from me, actually. Probably some big ones, knowing him" he bit the inside of his lip. "I don't know how to address that. Should I talk to him, confront him? It doesn't seem like a good idea but I'm open to options"

So even big bad Vanitas had some secrets he kept from Moses. Yang found that interesting. She wondered what he could be hiding. Maybe it was something seriously bad he did, something ten times worse than the stuff he'd done in the past. Or maybe it was something he did that completely contradicted what people thought of him. Maybe he did something nice for once and was trying to hide it. Yang tossed that thought aside immediately. She couldn't picture Vanitas acting like that. "Well, people always say honesty's the best policy," she said. "People in a romantic relationship need to be open or it's not gonna last." She and Adrien had gone through that route. She was one of the few people who knew about his escapades as Chat Noir. And she'd felt most comfortable talking to him during her recovery from the loss of her arm. They tried to be as open as they could. Yang thought for a moment, wondering how open she could be about her situation with Manolo. Most people at work probably couldn't know. They'd turn him in on the spot. And some of her friends might not sympathize with his situation too much since he was a criminal. Granted, stealing wasn't as bad as murder or rape, but still. Adrien might get mad that Manolo had tried to hurt her. Jane would probably say that a tragic past didn't excuse him for being a jerk. Moses seemed to be the only one who might have an idea about what to do, or at least understand where she was coming from. "Listen, since I've been...good about keeping Vanitas under wraps, I'm asking you to keep a secret of mine," she said, looking directly at him. "I may tell other people in due time, but...I want to hear what you have to say first."

He sighed. "I know. I was just hoping he'd be honest on his own. But I guess he just needs a little prompting to be better" He motioned for her to go ahead. "You know about my worst secret I have right now" the other was Cruella since he'd never mentioned getting a job with the woman back then. He was pretty sure Yang still didn't know. But, it wasn't harming anything. He was pretty sure Yang would let it slide anyway. It wasn't like Moses had killed people. "I think I can give honest imput about whatever you're worried about"

Yang let out a breath. "Okay. There's this...guy. We sorta became friends, but I found he's actually a...thief. And he really hates cops. Like, really hates them." She paused for a moment before adding "Not enough that he wants to kill them all or anything. He's not that extreme. He just...doesn't like them. Kind of like how I used to not like them. I've had every chance to report who he is and land his ass in a cell, but...I just can't bring myself to do it." She took a sip of her lemonade before continuing. "I'd probably get in big trouble if anyone found out I knew who he really was and didn't arrest him. But I just don't think that...throwing him in jail is going to help him. I look at him and I see how I used to be. I was this...angry kid who hated the cops because I felt like they took something away from me, and he's the same way. I want to help him, but I don't know how. I don't even know if he'd want my help. Last time we talked, he didn't want to listen to any advice I had to give." She let out another breath, feeling like a little bit of the weight that was on her shoulders was lifted. It felt nice just to confide in someone about all this.

"Well..." his first reaction was 'now you know how I feel' but that was just petty and mean. He sat down across from her. "Yang, all you can do is be a good example. You can't speak for all cops, that's crazy. But you can show him not all cops are bad or out to get the innocent. Be the good person and let him see on his own that you aren't evil just because you're a cop. If he's anything like you, he needs to come to that conclusion on his own and not have people tell him outright. Just...be a friend, okay?"

"I know. I just worry that he won't turn over a new leaf in time," Yang said, staring down at her hands. If Manolo didn't stop what he was doing soon, he'd get arrested for sure, and Yang wouldn't be able to help him then. "And throwing him in a cell wouldn't be right. It wouldn't help him. That'd be like if I was thrown in jail like Frollo wanted." The jerk had had no sympathy for Yang's plight, or any of her kids for that matter. He had intended for Yang to be arrested and her kids to be returned back to their guardians or thrown back into a foster system that would never help them. It had taken the combined efforts of many people to make sure her kids went to people that would care for them, and to help Yang become a regular member of society.

Moses sighed. "I feel the same way to be honest. I fear Van's going to do something he really regrets. I guess the big difference is your friend hasn't killed anyone and isn't hiding for his life. I'm confident if you continue showing him all the good a cop can do, he'll come around eventually. At least, it's just a hope. You should have him meet other people like you, and maybe some other cops, just to show him not everyone is awful and rotten"

Yang gave a humorless laugh. "I'll be lucky if I ever manage to find him. I have no idea where he lives or anything. I'm afraid the next time we meet, it may be when I'm called to stop him from stealing again." Yang couldn't do much to change Manolo's mind then. Moses didn't seem to think it was a total lost cause though. And he completely understood where Yang was coming from. That, at least, was enough to comfort her. He mentioned Vanitas though, and his worry that he might do something he regrets. She was quiet for a moment, idly playing with the straw resting in her glass. "Do you really think he can do it?" she asked. "Change, I mean. I've run into Vanitas a few times since our first encounter and he's always been..." She paused, trying to find the right word without riling Moses up too much. "Unpleasant," she finally finished. He always liked to taunt her about what he did, and he always had this cocky look in his eye that said he could do whatever he wanted and get away with it. Could someone that far gone really change?

"...Maybe I can put Van's wanderings to good use. If you find your friend, I could have Van see through connections if we can find where he lives. Then maybe we can talk to him. I mean, I have every reason to hate the cops but I'm only grateful to them. I might be able to help give some insight. Van...might be better off not talking to him" He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I hope so? I mean, he seems to be taking some of what I'm saying to heart. And I've seen softer sides of him, but I don't know if that's just Van trying to please me or Van actually thinking on trying to be better. Like I said, I think he's hiding things from me, and why would he do that if I wasn't going to be mad?" He smiled sadly. "Y'know, he forced me into a fight our first meeting. But after that, I kept catching him in vulnerable moments, and he came to my apartment once to get patched up. He knew I was safe. I think that's what made me love him. Even if he didn't realize it, he trusted me above anyone else, and was gentle and almost sweet. He also saved my life from two thugs. It meant a lot. I've seen a side of Van nobody else has, and I want to show that side to the world, have him learn to not be so, so...I dunno, angry and on edge?"

"That'd be ironic, me asking for Vanitas's help," Yang said with a wry grin. "I guess it couldn't hurt to try though." She just hoped Vanitas wouldn't rub it too much in her face the next time they met. If he and Moses could help her figure out where Manolo lived though, it could help a lot in her quest to help him turn over a new leaf. Any help was appreciated at this point, since she couldn't exactly ask her cop friends about it. She was quiet as she listened to Moses talk about his hopes of Vanitas having a good side, how he's seen how soft and trusting he could be. It was hard for Yang to imagine, but she knew Moses wouldn't make this up just for the hell of it. If he could just help Vanitas not act so angry all the time, maybe he could have a chance. "Looks like you've got your work cut out for you," she said. "But I won't stop you from trying. I just don't want him breaking your heart, 'cause you know I'll punch him if he does."

"If I ask him, I do think he'll do it" Said Moses thoughtfully. Probably not without a price though. Moses just hoped it wasn't anything he couldn't give. Sex, yes, more nights out, probably. If Vanitas was careful. Anything else? He wasn't sure if it was a good idea. Yes, he loved Vanitas, but it was that same love that caused him to want to hide him away and keep him safe. He laughed a little. "I think he's starting to get it" he frowned slightly. "I'm afraid of him breaking my heart too" he admitted with a little uncertainty. "I'm afraid of him breaking my trust and doing something that hurts both of us" he did smile at her threatening to punch him in the face. "Just don't break anything. On him or you. That wouldn't be good at all"

Yang just gave a little nod. She hoped that conversation went well. Vanitas would probably think her a coward for getting Moses to ask him to find Manolo instead of doing it herself, but that was a small price to pay in her mind. She could deal with him thinking that, since she didn't exactly think very highly of him either. Her heart gave a little pang when Moses confessed that he was worried Vanitas might break his heart too. Part of her wondered how they could ever build a relationship when there was so much distrust and not telling the truth. Moses felt like Vanitas was hiding something, and he was afraid of him breaking his trust too. Could love really form when he was feeling that way towards his partner? Maybe it would change over time. Who knew? "That's what everyone says," she replied, giving another wry smile. That was usually the warning most people gave when she threatened to beat someone up. They didn't want her wrecking the place.

He laughed a little. "So you've had this conversation before?" he asked jokingly. "That almost makes me jealous" he joked and laughed again. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you from the start, but I was afraid you'd freak out about Vanitas. I know he's not all bad, but he's done nasty things to almost everyone in this city and I just didn't want you, y'know, revealing where he was" he fidgeted uncomfortably and sighed. "Pitch seems to understand loving someone without reason. I almost wonder what they're like, whoever he loves. I hope they're nice"

"Oh trust me, threatening to beat people up is my specialty," Yang said with a laugh. "And I used to do it pretty often, as you might recall." Underground fights was what she loved to do when she lived out on the streets. She felt like it was money well-earned, unlike the cash she got from raiding people's dumpsters or pick-pocketing. And she didn't have to sell her body in order to get it either. She'd been lucky enough to escape that. When Moses mentioned that Pitch was in love with someone, she snorted. "Pitch in love? That'd be something to see," she said. She didn't mean it in a mean-spirited way, it was just hard to imagine. Pitch seemed so stoic and cold most of the time, except when he got pissed off. Still, it made Yang wonder what his partner was like. They were probably special if they got Pitch's attention.

Moses smiled. "I know" he said simply. He did know, all too well did he know. It wasn't a bad thing, it was how they had survived. He didn't hold fighting against her. He smiled faintly at her snort. "Anyone can fall in love, even demons" he stated quietly. "It's the most universal thing in the world. I'd like to meet Pitch's partner, tell them thank you for making him happy" and giving him insight into Moses's feelings towards Vanitas. Moses felt if it weren't for this mysterious person, Pitch would have scoffed at him. So he was very grateful to them, for softening the demon's heart.
